11. Everybody’s talking about
global warming, the
greenhouse effect and
climate change, and for
good reason: it’s one of
the biggest threats we
have ever faced.
12. Some stories we hear
about these issues can
sound terrifying.
14. Scientists have discovered that the
climate is changing again at a much
faster rate than normal.
This much faster change is referred today
by the scientific community as Climate
Change.
16. Scientists have discovered that
earth’s temperature is rapidly
increasing and believe that the
cause is the increase of the
amount of Greenhouse gases
released into the atmosphere.
17. Some Greenhouse gases occur
naturally in the Earth’s atmosphere
Water vapor
Carbon dioxide
Methane
Nitrous oxide
18. Most of these
Greenhouse gases are
produced in naturally
low amounts and play
a fundamental role in
making our planet
habitable
23. There are many types of
greenhouse gases causing
this rapid climate change.
The main ones are:
Carbon Dioxide.
Methane.
Nitrous Oxide.
24. The main human culprits
are:
Modern energy sources
Transport
Industry
Modern agriculture
25. Effect of the increase of
these greenhouse gases
Increase in average annual
temperatures.
Wilde animals and plants will have
difficulties adapting to the changes
in climate.
Increase in the number of storms
and heat waves.
26. Effect of the increase of
these greenhouse gases
Increase risk of respiratory and
cardiovascular problems, and
certain types of cancer caused by
air pollution
Agriculture, forestry and even
tourism and recreation could be
affected by the changing weather.
27. A change in weather
patters and climate
will affect all living
creatures on the
planet
A big change in the
climate might mean
that some places will
profit while others
will have a much
harder time
28. Some plants might grow
better while others may
not grow at all.
Some animals might be
affected negatively and
others positively.
Even people may be
affected, with their
environment becoming
more and more hostile.
32. Other consequences
The Mediterranean region is warming 20% faster than the rest of
the globe.
The Ocean level will increase by 60 to 90 meters due to current
ice caps merges.
The arctic is likely to become ice free during the summer
before the middle of the century.
Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause
approximatively 250 000 additional deaths per year from
malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and heat stress.
36. Conserve electricity
Unplug chargers for cellphones and
other appliances when not in use.
Get in the habit of turning lights
and appliances off.
37. Food
Don’t waste food
Buy local food as much as
possible. The shorter the
distance the better.
Try to grow vegetable in home
gardens greenery + free
food.
38. Transportation
Take a walk or use a bike if
you’re not too far from your
destination.
Use public transport.
39. Reduce waste
Recycle and buy recycled
products.
Choose products that have
less packaging.
Reuse, repair or donate.
40. Reduce waste
Don’t buy it unless you
really need it.
Carry cloth bags when
shopping.
Use a refillable travel mug
or water bottle.
42. Think of 3 – 5 situations where
weather has influenced your life
and plans. Write these down and
describe its influences on your
daily life.
Individual work
58. Limit the flood and erosion rate
Clean the air thanks to photosynthesis
Create shaded spaces
Green spaces help regulate the climate
Favourable in inhabited areas
Beneficial to the population as well
all as to the local environment
