Re: To whom it may concern.
Edwin Li was a fresh design graduate when he joined us at Lucideas in mid 2011. Along with another director, I
personally interviewed Edwin for the position of graphic designer at Lucideas.
In his time with us, he has delivered on everything that we saw in him at that interview. His skills and most
importantly, his attitude to work and the task given to him is exceptional for such a young person. In my
personal assessment, he IS a value creator and an asset to the agency.
We already liked Edwin’s portfolio and talent, but we were even more impressed with his job management
skills and dedication to the task at hand. While these qualities are not impossible to find, they are very rare,
and we were counting our lucky stars to have hired Edwin. Not all hires turn out as exceptional as he has
turned out for us.
Also exceptionally rare, we had completely no operational, discipline or office issues with Edwin whatsoever.
He was affable, hard working, delivered on his assignments and on a highly commendable demonstration of
maturity, there was no indiscriminate bad mouthing of clients or colleagues or the work from Edwin in office
banters.
Even though he was hired as a graphic designer, Edwin also demonstrated abilities and initiative far beyond his
job requirements. He is able to propose, fabricate and meticulously craft items required for his proposed idea –
with the resilience to see it through meticulously right to the finished product, at times on his own.
I have worked with and hired many young people. Some of them are passionate, highly creative, hard working
driven individuals, with whom we have been able to create and execute great creative campaigns. These young
people are a pleasure to work with because either their energy, their creativity, their enthusiasm, their
dedication, or their sense of responsibility drives them. I call them auto-pilots employees, driven by their own
desire to achieve and succeed, where all I need to give them is the opportunity, and a little bit of guidance and
wisdom. In my books, Edwin falls into that category. Edwin is one of a few talented and equally industrious
employee who will can work independently when given a clear and proper brief, (and he always surpasses my
expectations!).
But that said, Edwin is not an all perfect well rounded office worker. He is unable to play office politics,
backstab professional rivals, or sabotage a colleague’s project. He does not demonstrate elements of jealousy
or envy, and just concentrates on his assignments as professionally as he can.
I really shouldn’t be writing him this recommendation letter, because if you hire him, I will have one less
trusted person to call on when I want to go out and do something great. Because if you were a general going
into battle, Edwin is one soldier you will want to take with you.
But having had overseas experience and exposure myself, I firmly believe this opportunity would enrich is life
and his work tremendously as he is able to grasp things very fast, and innovatively apply them. I wish him the
very best, and I know that given the right opportunities, Edwin will go a long way in career.
