  17. 17. 19 MONTRÉAL 2012 SPA-SHOW.COM WORDFROMTHEPRESIDENT Word from the President Martine Plumet How Time Flies25 years, Twenty-five years ago, only one private school offered the “esthetics” option, and that was just one class per year! Never mind the complication of trying to get supplies, whether it was products or equipment, because of a lack of distributors. Nowadays, estheticians are spoiled; the market is rich in resources and products that come from around the world, not to mention all the new techniques and continuing education classes that are available through ESI Conferences! Today, students can learn this trade in public and private schools across Canada, and the schools have a hard time keeping up with the demand, with the increasing popularity of our field. It’s been 25 years since I partnered with Esthétique Sans frontières, a Canadian company that was just starting up, like me... Over the years, we’ve grown together, and now I share my passion with them; and this year we’re celebrating together! Times certainly have changed! Now, wherever I teach, whether it’s Singapore, Dubai or... Montréal, everyone can follow me thanks to all these Web technologies: webinars, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Three cheers for progress! LOL Despite all these technological advancements, nothing beats the human contact, a one-on-one discussion, a firm handshake. Come meet us and discover the multitude of new products, techniques and equipment presented at your Montréal Conference. Experience the various in-booth demonstrations; and learn and grow by attending one of the over 100 conferences and workshops. I encourage you to always pursue your dreams, to choose a distributor who will support you in your projects and, who knows, maybe this wonderful journey will take you to the ends of the world, as it did for me! In the meantime, come travel with me via Facebook, on ESI’s and our exhibitors’ pages! Wishing you a truly enjoyable and enriching 2012 Conference ;O) Martine Plumet Honorary Conference President

Daniel got his start in the spa business 15 years ago, operating Little House Spa, a traditional female-dedicated business. Over the years, his male clientele grew to over 40%, which led to the launching of a new venture. Bodé Spa For Men, Canada’s only spa for men by men, opened its doors in the beautiful Sandy Hill district of Ottawa. Now in its seventh year, the spa has gained an international repu- tation for its client care and modern-minded approach. Leading the charge, Daniel is not only the spa’s owner; he is also a massage therapist (orthotherapist), waxing specialist (trainer) and esthetician. Daniel’s class is a journey through the eyes of the male client, and a look into the benefits of having male staff within a mainstream setting. With humour, honesty and a few laughs, you will see that men often feel a little left out and misunderstood. Robb Gorman is a certified esthetician, makeup artist, writer and educator who specializes in skin care, waxing and grooming for men. Robb joined the Bodé Spa team in 2010 and has developed a reputation as an authority in the areas of men’s skin health and grooming. Robb has contributed to a number of national newspapers and magazines, including seasonal grooming features in UMM Magazine - Canada’s answer to Details and Maxim. Travelling across North America educating on men’s skin health, waxing and grooming, Robb’s seminars and classes have become crowd favourites, notorious for their humour, insight and frank talk about all things “guy”. With 15 years of working with skin, his skill, pro- fessionalism, warmth and humour ensures his clients feel welcomed and very much at ease. Robb stands proudly among the rarefied ranks of the male esthetician. “Skin and body care isn’t just about looking good,” he says. “It’s a vital component of ove- rall health and well-being. Men haven’t had this kind of relationship with themselves, but that’s changing. Fast. Education is paramount.” Robb celebrates the man who embraces his uniqueness, believes in the power of his body, and those who want to feel that power — or are working towards it. Secrets from The Male Spa: Reaching the Man-Kind (Part 1) Sunday 10:30 a.m. Room 513-C Daniel Francoeur and Robb Gorman from Ottawa’s wildly successful Bodé Spa for Men spill the beans on how to build the perfect environment for male clients. The two-part seminar is designed to cover every aspect of this process. The morning session will focus on crea- ting an environment where men feel welcome, safe and secure. From proven methods of employing psychology and physicality through logistics and strategies to reach men, teach men and keep men, the Bodé boys will guide you in cracking open your ability to tap into the fastest growing demographic in the spa and beauty industries. Secrets from The Male Spa: Reaching the Man-Kind (Part 2) Sunday 1:30 p.m. Room 513-C The afternoon session will focus on specific marketing models (including websites, menus, and literature), crea- tive ways to introduce men to the spa experience and what to do with your male clients once you’ve got them in the door (services, products, techniques and modalities). Daniel and Robb invite you to bring any existing mar- keting materials, menus and ideas to the seminar so they can offer you advice on how to tweak—so you can “speak”—to current and potential male clients. Calming the Body and the Mind with Neurofeedback and NeuroSpa Monday 10:30 a.m. Room 513-A Being able to fell good in your own skin goes a long way in making a person beautiful. In this presentation, two techniques promoting the wellness of the mind will be explored: neurofeedback and NeuroSpa. Neurofeedback is a technique that records and reflects cerebral rhythms on a computer screen so that one can modify them. When the cerebral state is relaxed and harmonious, it activates a mellow music. When the cerebral state is tense or chaotic, the music stops. The goal is to train the person to better harmonize his/her cerebral rhythms in order to increase mental wellbeing. NeuroSpa is a new therapeutic tool, which produces intra-corporal music synchronised with traditional music, to help the brain let go and find harmony. Neurofeedback and NeuroSpa are two state-of-the-art methods that promote physical and mental well being.
