3. WHAT IS ICT’S
• It refers to technologies that provide access to information through
telecommunications. It includes the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and
other communication mediums.
• It is also referred to as the diverse set of technological tools and resources used to
transit, store, create, share or exchange information.
4. WHAT IS SOCIAL AND FAMILY LIFE?
• Social and family life is the interaction between two or more people
where they share a common goal.
• Social and family life entails of the various bonds with, family, friends,
fans and many more.
5. • The world now is full of technology. All interactions which take place now is fully technology based.
Now a days almost everyone has a technological gadget. A census survey this year has been reported
that the percentage of people who have these gargets are 90% of the earth’s population with the
remaining 10% of the population being those without these gadgets inclusive of the poor, old and those
without electricity.
• Another survey also said that for the past five years over 200 billion technology gadgets have been
made and sold. These gadgets have made some impacts on our social and family life in various ways.
These points in the subsequent pages are its impact on our social and family life.

6. POSITIVE IMPACT OF ICT ON SOCIAL AND
FAMILY LIFE
Interaction with family groups: As a result of ICT, family relations both far and near can
interact with each other. For instance, through the use of WhatsApp and telegram,
families are able to relate to each other at the same time. ICT has made it possible to
have family gatherings and meetings without necessary travelling or coming together.
Home security systems: Through ICT, very effective and modern security systems have
been developed to help ensure home security. For example; security cameras, alarm
systems, which include fire alarms, invisible lasers, forcefield systems voice recognition
and hand print scanners have brought about improved security in our various homes
and workplaces.
7. Parent engaging apps in school: Through the use of technology, parents are able to
involve themselves with their ward’s education from the comfort of home. With their
wards’ education from the comfort of home. With the help of emails, and software such as
google classroom, parents can access what their children learn in school, and can help
their children with them. Not only this, but also, parents can have a feel of the child’s
experience in class every day.
Family entertainment: ICT has brought about entertainment in and outside of the home.
Sometimes, families gather and have movie nights where they all watch a movie
together. Also, friends meet up to entertain themselves with ICT gadgets such as phones,
laptops, televisions.
Easy socialization: ICT has facilitated socialization and made it easier, in the sense that
people are able to make friends in a jiffy. Social media platforms such as Facebook and
Instagram enable different kinds of people from different backgrounds to meet and
interact. Sometimes marriage relationships start on social media. All these have been
made possible through the use of ICT’s.
8. It has also improved communications: People living in distant places can still stay in
touch with each other. This improves relationships, hence improving social life.
It serves as a platform for sharing information: Information related to social events
such as upcoming parties, family moments or even relationships are easily spread to
people regardless of their location.
9. NEGATIVE IMPACT OF ICT ON SOCIAL AND
FAMILY LIFE
ICT has led to the adulteration of culture: Indigenous culture has been affected
adversely by the introduction of new technology which has been adopted by the local
people. For example; local games like ludo, oware have been transformed into
virtual games leading to the adulteration of culture.
It has led to the reduction in family time: Family members now spend most of their
time on their phones rather than enjoying family moments together. This is abysmal
because it affects the upbringing of children and their relationship in general.
10. NEGATIVE IMPACT OF ICT ON SOCIAL AND
FAMILY LIFE
It has made children not to run errands: Because of ICT’s children do not go for
errands for their parents because they become addicted to these gadgets. They are
mostly found with their phones playing games or chatting.
