I am an interdisciplinary visual communicator whose experience as illustrator, designer and
educator is driven by endless curiosity, deep interest in the sciences, creative facilitation, and
love of conceptualization. With over 40 awards, my evocative, conceptually driven imagery
appears in some of today’s most influential publications. I am currently completing a Master’s
(MFA) in Digital Futures at OCAD University which focuses on aesthetics, visualization,
and the sublime regarding issues of representation, radical pedagogy, and creativity.
YEARS > 15 DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION > 10 ART DIRECTION > 3 TEACHING > 4 GRAPHIC ARTS TRAINING > 2 GRADUATE STUDIES.
Teaching has been, and con-
tinues to be, one of the most
profound experiences of my life.
My teaching philosophy and
practices aim to entangle stu-
dent and teacher minimizing the
apparent separateness of each.
I encourage the utilization of
all aspects of life as inspiration,
where seemingly separate areas
and experiences are, in fact,
intersections of discovery. Creat-
ing safe spaces for open sharing,
critical inquiry and class-wide
permission to make mistakes
are fundamental. My practice
and continued development of
ideational strategies, like mind-
mapping and repeated analysis
of existing works produce strong
foundations to build concepts,
abstract thinking, and lasting
critical inquiry.

The Sublime Apparatus, Installation: digital/experiential. Aug. 2015. OCAD University, Toronto.
MFA Thesis final showpiece: An immersive and interactive installation where participants
encounter inaccessible sublime data-topographies through an exercise bike. Riders become
part of a semi-scientific measuring apparatus, moving over data-landscapes, to become
entangled in techno-scientific practices of repeatable sensing and measurement with per-
sonal, non-repeatable experience, feelings and imagination.
Deep City 2030, game art direction. April/May 2015. OCAD University, Toronto.
SSHRC Insight Grant project:
Atermonos, Olympic Village, Athens, Greece. Large scale installation, digital. Summer 2014.
Digital intervention to re-invigorate Athens Olympic Village. In light of the Greek and global economic
meltdown, we were tasked with creating and pitching a meaningful interactive digital installation
on and around the Olympic structures designed by star-architect Santiago Calatrava. Meaning
“one without end or boundaries,” Atermonos a hinged on the importance of demos/public and well-
wishes as Greek tradition. Participants record a wish (audio or text) through a custom app which
then was ‘launched’ into the out of the virtual in to the real-world through a series of lights installed
on the ribbing of the Agora, appearing to plunge into the adjacent pools. Wishes were to be kept
online and accessible by all. *With broadcast media designer and theorist Umar Amanullah.
Blackout Toronto (BOTO) 2045. Guerrilla Futures public intervention. June 2014.
Public performance and intervention forecasting intentional blackouts in order to see the
cosmos normally made invsibile by light pollution. *With broadcast media designer and theorist
Umar Amanullah, futurist and educator Amy Satterthwaite, and fashion designer-futurist Laura Dempsy.
Urban Dialogue, The City of Toronto. Digital signage and print redesign, pitch. Summer 2014.
Responding to poorly designed development signage by the city of Toronto and surround-
ing regions (GTHA), new signage was created which re-engaged the public in city planning
through greater detail, use of icons, digital imaging, hyper-links and QR codes, accompany-
ing website and data. Multiple questionnaires and in-person user tests produced a much
preferred system than the current standards. This project is still in-process with multiple cities.

Drones (Don’t Believe Everything You Screen), Installation: digital immersion. Nov. 2013.
OCAD University, Toronto. An immersive 3 projection screened room where the
participant’s location was tracked – or targeted – by lasers while their image was
shown from all angles on-screen(s), as if surveilled by a drone. An accompany-
ing tablet provided facts, figures and policies of drone warfare. *With broadcast media
designer and theorist Umar Amanullah and digital artist and animator Brandy Yang.

Interdisciplinarity and collaboration are the keys to my artistic practice outside the realms of
illustration and design – both lens of which remain crucial as well-practiced modes of expression.
Moving from the visual to the realms of embodied sensing through touch, motion and sound,
recent works have produced powerful, affective and immersive experiences through digital art and
storytelling. Shared ontological and epistemological underpinnings are explored and made tangible
through themes of sublime terror, awe and wonder, surveillance, alterity, urbanity, nature, the
imagination and techno-scientific cultural practices.

»» Exploring the intersection of science, art, design, business & education.

University President’s Award: Largest scholarship granted to the top graduate applicant.
THESIS: My thesis challenges long-standing notions found in the Kantian sublime
and provides an alternative description which reintegrates the role of imagination
as critical component of aesthetic limit-experiences, learning and world-building.
Through an unconventional combination of feminist theorist and quantum physicist
Karen Barad’s agential realism and Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophies, the false
dichotomies which separate reason and imagination enshrined during the European
Enlightenment is instead shown to be a complex and entangled aesthetic experience
in line with contemporary post-humanist thinking.
FINAL PROJECT: The Sublime Apparatus is an installation featuring a
stationary bicycle which allows users to explore inaccessible and impossible
landscapes – like the surface of Mars, the ocean depths, a dying heart
rate or riding the stock market – through data delivered as tension as an
embodied and imaginative aesthetic experience of the sublime.
