Greetings!
My name is Doug and I am a visual thinker, listener, feeler and doer. Having been re-engaged and actively pursuing
employment in a creative field I feel a sense of great possibility and excitement. I am passionate about creativity and
design being a seasoned graphic designer, photographer, retoucher and project manager. After several years pursuing my
solo career in fine art / portraiture photography and graphic design, I feel fresh passion to create, enticed by what has not
been realized. Workshops, two day intensives and seminars with Gregory Heisler, Joe McNally, Jay Maisel and Frank Doorhof
have me wide eyed with enthusiasm, ambition and endless imagination! I am determined to continue visual exploration but
feel I need to again be a piece in a collaborative group where ideas and design can best flourish. I’m interested in joining a
“team” as I wish to share my experience while attaining new creative peaks and learning fresh and different strategies with
others. A return to my youthful longing to follow my ancestry and create – in any meaningful way possible.
Having worked in the corporate world of marketing, design and advertising – I get it! I’ve also had the gift of working in a
culturally diverse environment, adapting with enthusiasm and respect, I feel design becomes even more interesting when
such opportunities allow. As you’ll find in my resume, my experiences with an innovative R&D company brought me into the
middle of a high energy world of absolute creativity. Mingling with celebrity after an auto race, the company team cars
always in contention, to talking design with developers at Ferrari. During those moments with brands, images, colors and
graphics on display, it comes together; Aesthetics matter, Design matters. Done well, design can influence in many ways.
The energy of such diverse experiences carried into my visual expression, I know how to capture the essence of “the
message” from logo to layout, print and all important web design with a slick social media presence, implementation. My
enthusiasm for creativity and expression is relentless. From rare Blues, Rock & Roll, funk, Alt / Indie, unsung watercolorists of
New England, E=mc2 and poster designs from seeing a clever image go live on the web, or eloquent copy written with
impact, intent – a fine art piece fresh out of the printer; I am influenced by much and inspired by eclectic thinking.
Thank you for taking the time to read yet another cover letter. I'd love to schedule an interview as the person behind this
text is more interesting than words on “paper” convey. I’ve had many unique, rich, humorous, crazy and wildly difficult
experiences resulting in a powerful appreciation for life and opportunity. I understand the sounds, tastes and emotion of
design, what good design feels like. I recognize how great design can, despite saturation, noise and sensory overload, still -
engage and entice. Creativity, art in all forms and design are what move me, I’d embrace the opportunity to find a spot
with a new “team” and contribute, learn and create.
Sincerely,
Doug

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2001 - Present :: Freelance
I have had the great opportunity to freelance in design and photography and maintain a home studio and
office. In addition to talent acquired with formal education, extensive design knowledge via exposure in the
corporate world, I continually pursue advanced imaging and design techniques through workshops, seminars
and online education. I have used these tools to create award winning photographs, album and CD art, logos,
magazine advertisements, book covers, posters and flyers. Combining images and graphics into design or a
photo for Fine Art print resale. I have designed and maintain a website in addition to a print portfolio of my
work. I am experienced and comfortable as lead artistic director, junior positions or solo visual artist.
1995 - 2011 :: Evans Cooling Systems, Inc.
An innovative automotive engine performance technology engineering firm. I was lead graphics designer,
digital asset manager and photographer. Diversity was key in creating all manner of design to set us apart from
competitors - and we did. Established corporate brand identity. Created and managed web campaigns from
concept to point of sale and information distribution. Initiated unique use of photos, image creation and
graphics to be used for catalogs, product flyers, product packaging, posters, website layouts, logos et al.
1991 - 1994 :: lnLine Design
A niche advertising, printing and design firm adopting early computer desktop publishing software technology
along with the definitive, cutting edge hardware of the time. I utilized custom built workstations to run the suite
of Micrografx design and DTP software with an extensive library of typefaces for work on custom designs and
advertisement layouts. I developed an expertise for typography and layout. Additional responsibilities;
maintaining digital asset backup, copy editing and managing the firms very early days of email and online
resources. (An aside, contacted while with InLine, I helped the local dial-up internet company, Lakeville
