1. INSTRUCTOR BRIEF: Ms. Dolores Ochoa, NCIDQ, with architecture, interior design, landscape design,
and construction management experience, founded her professional design practice in the early 90’s,
and has been an Adjunct Instructor in the Art & Architecture Department since 2005 at Harold
Washington College. Ms. Ochoa teaches hand drafting/drawing, physical 3-Dimensional model
building, CAD, and Architectural History, and through memberships in many professional design
associations ASID, IIDA, IDEC, ASLA, and as a licensed Interior Designer she has mentored many
students of architecture and interior design towards achieving their personal education and professional
goals.

This intense & fun 16 week long course emphasizes ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING, FREE-HAND DRAWING for
3-DIMENSIONAL MODEL BUILDING, as well as, manipulation of THE ELEMENTS & PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN, & what is
“DESIGN PROCESS”. By taking this course students will develop further design critical thinking skills, advanced
design communications skills, & better understanding of the nature of architectural design practice. While we will
review fundamentals of creating 2-D Orthographic, & 3-Dimensional (Paraline & Perspective) drawing techniques, we
will explore new methods for analyzing complex programmatic relationships of space planning while we analyze
existing outdoor space (Plazas). Keyed in with model building projects in various scales are exercises to experience
the Design Process. Students will design a number of built models projects including creating Platonic Solids, and a
Furniture Piece (Chair Prototype) using examples of the Components of Basic Structure for Constructing Objects.
Advanced drawing techniques for using line types/weights for depicting movement & for creating visual hierarchy,
material delineations & poché, applications of tonal values & color are integrated into the course. Upon completing
this course students will possess CREATIVE PORTFOLIO QUALITY WORK, and have elements of a design portfolio to
SHOW FOR AN INTERVIEW.
