Pollution Effect On Plant Pollution
While I went through this project I noticed that I truly do not have a green thumb, the only plants that really changed much were the plants that I
killed. My motor oil plants rapidly died, shrinking quickly and drying up. I actually still only have two of the control group plants. My hypothesis
was supported, the plants that I administered motor oil to died rapidly while the other plants just kind of continued life. I know that most oil spills
usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on vegetation. The
United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge quantities of oil every single year. Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I can't
honestly think of many ways to prevent such things from happening but one thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to transport
oil to reduce oil spills on land.
This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My initial hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant
growth excessively, and might even kill the plants in the experimental group. The results of this project were almost exactly what I predicted them to
be, and ultimately my hypothesis was supported. Soil pollution is so common these days, and it mainly happens due to elements that are man–made.
Our waste, is so much different from things that nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants make the soil
more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of "food" for soil. Our waste on the other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that
are obviously not originally found in nature and this is what leads to soil pollution. There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution.
Things such as coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by products that are used are contaminated and usually
not disposed of properly. Industrial waste stays in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of people probably never think about
(including myself) is the types of personal waste we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled with

The Downside to Land Use and Urban Development
Excessive land use and urban development are a problem, because it causes pollution and it robs animals of their homes. When man extends his
boundaries into nature, nature has no choice but to go somewhere else. Expansion and population are the cause of this environmental problem. I
propose to set a standard for land development for every city. In that I also propose that each city should impose a set number of persons to live in that
city. Each city must impose stricter guidelines for waste management. Finally I propose that the city set limits for development, and expansion.
Land development causes danger to the environment by polluting the air and disrupting geological and...show more content...
Other household gases contribute to the toxic air stirring about in that fog hovering over your city such as Chlorofluorocarbons. CFC's are basically
made of Chlorine, Fluoride and Carbon (Our Poisoned Sky, 27–28). This gas floats up toward the sun into the stratosphere, and breaks apart (due to the
sun's radiation). The Carbon and the Fluoride don't do much but the Chlorine literally eats away at the Ozone layer like an acid. "Why is that bad?"
Might you ask, well it is harmful because the Ozone Layer protects everything on Earth from Ultra Violet Radiation. This in turn makes the Earth
hotter. To make the Earth even hotter add to this Carbon Dioxide (CO2), a pollutant produced by combustion engines and fire, not to be confused with
Carbon Monoxide, also a deadly gas (11). This gases blankets the inner atmosphere, holding most heat in, the term "Green house" is synanomis with
CO2, because it gives reference to a plant greenhouse; which lets light in to heat up the room, but does not let it escape (9). Carbon Dioxide is that
brown cloud hanging over downtown Phoenix. It is usually found in highly populated area (11).
I know what you're thinking, "What the hell is he getting at, well with all of this heating of the atmosphere and eating of Ozone layers, a multitude of
things happen. For one the

The Importance Of Land Pollution
Oh, what a unique and beautiful world we live in! How marvelous is nature and its habitants who have respected this place since the beginning of their
existence. Although, there came a species that disrupted the harmony of life, destroying this precious land because of their will to dominate. What a
catastrophe they have created for the environment by contaminating the natural resources that men willingly take for granted. I believe land pollution is
important and should be considered a serious problem because it negatively affects human health, it creates more pollution in other settings, and overall
it results in environmental degradation.
Land pollution is one of many pollutions humans fight against. Other pollutions like water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution,
radioactive pollution, and more are crucial as well, but I believe land pollution is one of the major types of pollution because its aftermath. Anyhow,
land pollution is the contamination of earth's surface for the people's misuse of the land. To be brief, there are different types of land pollution such
as solid waste, pesticides and fertilizers, chemicals, and deforestation. According to the United Nations, the U.S is one of the top contributors to land
pollution, disposing over 110 million tons of waste per year. Land pollution as well causes the Earth to lose approximately 25 billion tons of valuable
topsoil each year. Additionally, it takes at least 500 years for a couple

In this research paper we will begin explaining our topic (land pollution) on a broad scale, relating things to the whole world. As we get deeper into
our topic we will go more in depth into how land pollution affects our community and how we can relate to it in our everyday life. The main
questions that we will be answering in this paper is;what is land pollution?, what are the causes and effects of land pollution?, what are the different
types of land pollution?, and how can we prevent land pollution? According to eschooltoday.com, Land pollution is the deterioration (destruction) of
the earth's land surfaces, often directly or indirectly as a result of man's activities and their misuse of land resources. As the days go...show more

This includes, but is not limited to, the production of airborne diseases and soil erosion because the soil barely gets any nutrients. The second type
of land pollution is pesticides and fertilizers. Many farming activities engage in the use of pesticides and fertilizers to extend their crops .Sometimes
because of this, many insects and small animals are killed and bigger animals that eat small animals could be possibly harmed because of the
contamination in the smaller animals. Also, fertilization can develop water pollution because when it rains the runoff rolls into a nearby stream
harming the fish habitat. The third type of land pollution is chemicals. Chemicals in nuclear power plants produce waste that have to be stored.
Manufactures produce lots of liquid chemical waste . Even with being stored into an environmentally safe way, most of the waste flows into landfills
and other storage facilities that are not safe. Power plants combust fossil fuels and biomass resulting in contaminating the soil. Radioactive chemicals
in nuclear power stations are stored underground and because of the rays in the waste can cause hazardous effects on human and wildlife such as lung
and skin cancer. Last but not least, trees are greatly used in industrialization and because millions of trees are cut down for wood, mining, and farming
; new trees are never grown back which result in

The Natural Environment And Pollution In Nagaland
Though Nagaland seems to be a state without or less industry which can produce a large amount of toxic waste or pollute the atmosphere to a great
extend as serious as consider to the other states in our country. But this does not mean that our land is pollution free state as pollution comes through
the use of motor vehicle and habit of chemical fertilizer that pollutes water. Felling of trees in large scale, burning of jungle, motor vehicles, and
dumping of waste without proper measures are the agents that put weight to our environment and polluting the nature with fast pace in Nagaland.
Extensive use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides change the nature of soil and slowly depletes natural nutrients, not only damaging the
soil but contaminates river water with human as victims. Pollution remains a neglected phenomenon for Nagaland because citizens and authority alike
considered the modern hazard as nothing more than a convenient abnormality. We need to view it as a hard modern reality that has factual, continuous,
and quantifiable effect on humans, wildlife, and the environment. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that
adversely alters its nature. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. It might be one fewer worry but
the question about the unaddressed environmental issues requires action by value of implementation .

The Effects Of Land Pollution
Many experts define the word pollution as the presence or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing harmful or has poisonous effects.
Pollution damages all aspects of the environment. It impacts air, water, soil, food, and life quality. The Texas coastline in particular has been widely
impacted by pollution specifically land pollution and it has still been impacted till this day. There are many types of pollution in the world, but land
pollution has taken a toll in many environments especially the Texas coast. Many major industries and the public make many environmental mistakes
that affects the Texas coast. Those mistakes harm the physical condition of coastline, but there some solutions we as a public can take to better care
about the Texas coast.
The ways we can reduce land pollution is to propose a three–way solution to this devastating issue. There many solutions we can think of to solve this
problem but this three–way solutions to combat land pollution more compatible. If the public issues certain types of laws, do regulations on major
industries, and provide an advisory of what to come if land pollution is still continuing. These solutions contribute in a way that they minimize the
variety of land pollution in natural areas including the Texas coast. We should push for a purity environment where we can experience these natural
areas without the overwhelming image of land pollution,

Consequences Of Pollution
People have heard of pollution, but what some don't know is that there are many types of pollution. Pollution can have different consequences
depending on what kind there is. In the world so far there are only nine types of pollution that have been recognized. Although this can be negative to
the world it's also affecting the health of people as well. In order to understand what pollution can do to you and the world you need to know the types
that are causing the harm.
The first type is air pollution. This type can be harm to the world by contaminating the atmosphere. It can come in matter like dust or excessive gases
such as carbon dioxide or vapors that can't be removed through nature that not even the cycles can remove them such as the carbon cycle and the
nitrogen cycle. Vehicles, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, dry soil erosion, building construction or demolition and other natural sources are another
cause of air pollution. Although there isn't much of volcanic eruptions or dry soil erosions those are the ones that seem to be the most dangerous for
other parts of the world while the rest are more common. Study shows that science prove that they believe global warming is also a way to increase
the air pollution. The largest source of nitrogen is in the atmosphere. Without nitrogen in the atmosphere the crops can be lost and would affect farmers.
If the farmers are affected there won't be as much crop production to be sold anywhere and the government would have to

Air And Water Pollution Essay
Air and water pollution is one of the biggest problems the environment faces today. It is one of the highest leading cause of death. Air and water
pollution has been affecting the environment for many years causing many diseases among people especially children. I will study and examine the
early childhood growth between two countries which are Australia and Tanzania. I will discuss how clean and polluted their air and water is for each
country. Their access to clean water. I will also explain the effects that can occur when water is contaminated. How children are affected when they don
't have access to primary essentials and how each country and their environment and living condition might threatened a child 's life.

But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently
shown that drinking water in some parts of Australia has shown to be contaminated with uranium, faecal bacteria and nitrates. (Schwarzenbach, R.,
Egli, T., Hofstetter, T., Von Gunten, U., & Wehrli, B. (2010).Meaning those who don 't have access to clean water in Australia will likely become
sick or catch a disease affecting not only their growth but a child growth as well. Water is important to the human body. As we not only depend on it
to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said
low income communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who are of high income. (Health, J., & Kim.

Cause And Effect Essay On Air Pollution
Pollution has become a prevalent issue worldwide and has begun to affect the air used to breathe, the soil used to grow food, and the water used to
drink. All of these effects result in commonly occurring destruction of health and wildlife that one may have seen on the news or heard from peers. In
order to live, one needs food, water, clothing, and shelter. If the water and food that society consumes gets contaminated, a major component of life has
been eradicated, which can only have negative consequences. If more people are educated as to what effects the environment, the world has a chance
to counteract the effects of pollution. The main causes of pollution are the burning of fossil fuels such as with car exhausts, littering as a result of
societal norms and laziness, and factory waste as a result of lax waste regulation, and can result in mass destruction of the environment and catastrophic
effects on the everyday lives of contemporary people.
The amount of factories and industries has grown immensely through the previous years which has resulted in an expansion in the consumption of
petroleum products. Innovation has begun to increase and has promoted the expansion of the production of cars. As stated by the Air Quality Research
Center, "Air pollution is one of the most dangerous environmental problems, causing many adverse health effects and responsible for 50,000 deaths in
the U.S. each year" (Air Pollution and Health – Air Quality Research Center.). The smog and

Effects Of Land Pollution
The most significant issues with the land pollution are deforestation, soil contamination, and the improper disposal of garbage. "Land pollution is the
degradation or destruction of earth's surface and soil, directly or indirectly because of human activities; it refers to any activity that lessens the quality
and/or productivity of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, and construction" (CEF, LandPollution, para. 2). Some people understand
land pollution as damaging the earth's surfaces. There are many places that are suffering due to land pollution. In the Philippines, there were 5,000
people living in tents due to typhoon "Yolanda" in the year 2013; one of the effects that caused the typhoon isdeforestation, which also dropped down
the forest cover from 70 to 20 percent. (Canadian Reference Center, 2013, para. 28). These damaging effects on the environment do not only
impact the forest alone but also cause properties to be destroyed and lives to be taken away. Using hazardous substances in the soil is also an
example of land pollution because this can lead to soil contamination. Soil contamination occurs in a lot of developing countries such as Ukraine,
which has 8% of its land contaminated due to fertilizers in the year 2014 (The Economist, 2017, para. 4). This soil contamination creates
destruction to the land that can be used for agriculture, where people get their source of food. One of the possible effects of soil contamination is
the loss of soil fertility. Some farmers use chemical fertilizers to increase the plant growth, however, these only release toxins into the soil and reduce
soil fertility (Baker, 2017, para. 3). This action does not just affect the fertility of the soil, but it also has consequences to the growth of population,
number of deaths of humans and animals, which results from the ingestion of foods from contaminated soil. Another thing that is also a concern in
the society referring to deterioration of the earth's land is the waste that is collected and sent to different landfills. Garbage can be seen everywhere,
whether in schools, restaurants, or home. Waste is very common in many places and is also known as a cause of pollution. The biggest source of waste is

INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so different as compared to the atmosphere that existed
before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830. To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into the
atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made) emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission
which can be divided into biogenic and geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound emissions from
forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt
emissions, and...show more content...

What Is Land Pollution?
What is Land Pollution?
When we talk about air or water pollution, the reactions garnered are stronger. This is because we can see the effects caused by the pollutants and
their extent very clearly. It is normal human psychology to believe in what you see first hand. Our land on the other hand is living a nightmare too.
We may not be able to see the effects with clarity, but land is being polluted and abused constantly and we are unable to calculate the damages incurred.
Land Pollution has come to become one of the serious concerns that we collectively battle.
Land pollution, in other words, means degradation or destruction of earth's surface and soil, directly or indirectly as a result of human activities.
Anthropogenic activities are conducted citing development, and the same affects the land drastically, we witness land pollution; by drastic we are
referring to any activity that lessens the quality and/or productivity of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, construction etc. The
degradation of land that could be used constructively in other words is land pollution.
Land Pollution has led to a series of issues that we have come to realize in recent times, after decades of neglect. The increasing numbers of barren
land plots and the decreasing numbers of forest cover is at an alarming ratio. Moreover the extension of cities and towns due to increasing population is
leading to further exploitation of the land. Land fills and

Essay about Pollution
Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world.
Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is
all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and
solutions for this issue.
Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the
heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content...
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean
and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people
continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one.
They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams,
lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies
pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal
dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not
to return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not
only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth

Essay on Pollution in The Bahamas
Evo Morales stated, "Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that
human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans" (Pollution Quotes, 2013). Hence, attention must be provided
to this devastating issue. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse changes (Wieman, 2013). There
are numerous types of pollution, such as light, air, land, water, noise, thermal and radioactive pollution. In an article, the author highlighted that
according to Richard Buckminster Fuller, "Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting, we allow them to disperse because we've...show

There are numerous types of pollution, but due to the activities mention above, The Bahamas has three majors' well–known types of pollution, which
are land, water and air. The Bahamas has face land pollution due to the Bahamian littering, water pollution due to the recent oil spills, and sewage, and
air pollution mainly by burning of fossil fuel and exhaust from cruise ships and cars.
Land Pollution
Firstly, land pollution is the contamination of the soil that prevents natural growth and balance in the land whether it is used for cultivation, habitation,
or a wildlife preserve (Nathanson, 2013, para. 1). Some land pollution, such as the creation of landfills, is deliberate, while much more is accidental
and can have widespread effects. Land pollution are cause by hazardous waste and sewage spills, non–sustainable farming practices such as the heavy
use of inorganic pesticides, household dumping and littering, industrial factories, overcrowded landfills and construction debris (Mayntz, 2006). Land
pollution can have an effect on human, water, soil and animals. Land pollution can also have effects on human respiratory system, problems on the
skin and can cause various kinds of cancers. Land pollution can cause very bad smell and odor in the area, breed rodents like rats, mice and insects,
who in–turn transmit diseases, and land pollution can prevent tourists

Water Pollution Essay: Saving The Environment
Sometimes it is forgotten in daily life how important the world around us actually is. The water we drink, the air we breathe, and the land we live on
is all we have. The problem though is a lot of business owners forget that when they are developing kickbacks or loopholes to bypass laws that protect
the environment and in doing so is saving them copious amounts of money. By accomplishing this, it is ruining the one thing that grants us prosperity
and life, the Earth. In a public remark, by former president Bill Clinton, he had this to say, "...Creating thriving companies and new jobs doesn't have to
come at the expense of the air we breathe, the water we drink... or the natural landscape in which we live." Although industrialization is great for the
economic growth and development for a country, this can also be harmful for the environment itself. One of the most common issues with businesses
and the environment is the disposal of waste. Not only do communities itself make an immense amount of waste, but also corporations that manufacture
certain products or goods. Due to the costs certain companies accrue from environmental laws, companies often times find more efficient and cost
effective ways to produce their goods, but this also lays waste to an extreme amount of byproducts that tarnish our environment. Most of these
byproducts are also being burned at waste disposal sites that create air pollution and in turn pollutes our water supply and land. The problem in most

Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are:
deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources.
Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140 million tons of pollutants into the air every year.
Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, of air pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when

Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that
penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into
streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump freshoxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil
from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil
is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem.
Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into
desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning
started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released
from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1
percent of depletion of the ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5

WASTE GENERATION IN IBADAN
Solid waste
Although it is generally agreed that enormous quantities of solid waste are generated in Ibadan daily, the exact figures have not been determined,
probably owing to the use of diverse methods of calculation. Maclaren International Ltd (1970) found that the average per capita quantity of solid
waste generated was 0.37–0.5 kg/day for the traditional areas of the city and 0.53 kg/day for the newer areas. According to Egunjobi (1986), 38
million kg of solid waste was collected in the suburbs of Ibadan in 1986. The suburbs constitute about 21% of the city. On this basis, it can be
estimated that 181 million kg of solid waste was generated in the city as a whole in 1986. This gives a per capita waste–generation rate of 0.31 kg/day,
using the 1986 estimated population of 1.6 million for the city.
In 1982, PAI Associates recorded the volume and weight of solid waste generated

beauty it brings, instead you overlook it and all you see is cold mornings and school. But what if one day you wake up and it's all gone? Then you
would have wished you appreciated it more. You never realise how much you take for granted until you've lost it.Pollution is destroying our planet,

Waterways are in serious danger of environmental catastrophe as a result of industrial waste and domestic rubbish. Everything living thing depends on
water for life.
Pollution affects marine life and freshwater animals. Factories built on the banks of estuaries have been found dumping residue and waste in
waterways. Poisons and other toxins have leaked into the banks destroying species of native and endangered flora and causing outbreaks of disease
within these plants. Similar to this has been the impact on the habitats of waterborne creatures interrupting delicate ecosystems and leading to the
starvation and death of fish species. The flow on the effect of diseased estuaries can be found in oceans where the food sources of large fish species
are being depleted. The impact of waste is compounded by the dumping of domestic rubbish. Plastic bags, aluminium, tin and other rubbish that is an
eyesore, becomes an ideal breeding ground for dangerous bacteria that can cause disease. Did you know there is such thing as a pacific garbage patch?
In late 1997 there was a discovery of a new continent that exists between the Hawaiian
Islands and the coast of California. This continent which is approximately two times the size of Texas is not one that is comprised by land.
Disturbingly it is a result of an estimated 3.5 million tons of floating plastic garbage that continuously circles in

The Solution Of Land Pollution
"A clean home is a happy home!" This quotation applies to the dilemma that is being partaken in this problem. In many cases, your place of residence
defines who you are as a person or in this situation, as a community. I don't know too many people that would like to visit or even live in an unsanitary
environment. The land pollution that invades the streets of the small town could've been prevented but is solvable with the work of a proposition. I
would like to propose a plan to improve the living conditions of my hometown. I suggest the residents of Waverly come together to conduct a
cleaning plan throughout the entire town. As a result, the locked potential could be revealed and astonish the doubters. With the motivation and
cooperation of the town's people, we could limit the amount of pollution in the municipality of Waverly. The initial purpose of this essay is to find
the solution to the litter found on the surface of the town's surroundings. Before discussing on how to resolve the problem, we have to establish what
exactly is "land pollution". There can be many different ideas for the concept within most of earth's areas. It is an occurring issue in today's society
that is overlooked by many in the population. Over a period of time, it collects and eventually blends in with the setting. It can be thought of as just a
few pieces of litter here and there, but there's more to it. Land pollution means degradation or destruction of earth's surface or soil, directly or

Pollution's Effect On Plants (40

  • 1. Pollution Effect On Plant Pollution While I went through this project I noticed that I truly do not have a green thumb, the only plants that really changed much were the plants that I killed. My motor oil plants rapidly died, shrinking quickly and drying up. I actually still only have two of the control group plants. My hypothesis was supported, the plants that I administered motor oil to died rapidly while the other plants just kind of continued life. I know that most oil spills usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on vegetation. The United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge quantities of oil every single year. Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I can't honestly think of many ways to prevent such things from happening but one thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to transport oil to reduce oil spills on land. This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My initial hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant growth excessively, and might even kill the plants in the experimental group. The results of this project were almost exactly what I predicted them to be, and ultimately my hypothesis was supported. Soil pollution is so common these days, and it mainly happens due to elements that are man–made. Our waste, is so much different from things that nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants make the soil more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of "food" for soil. Our waste on the other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that are obviously not originally found in nature and this is what leads to soil pollution. There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution. Things such as coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by products that are used are contaminated and usually not disposed of properly. Industrial waste stays in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of people probably never think about (including myself) is the types of personal waste we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Downside to Land Use and Urban Development Excessive land use and urban development are a problem, because it causes pollution and it robs animals of their homes. When man extends his boundaries into nature, nature has no choice but to go somewhere else. Expansion and population are the cause of this environmental problem. I propose to set a standard for land development for every city. In that I also propose that each city should impose a set number of persons to live in that city. CFC's are basically made of Chlorine, Fluoride and Carbon (Our Poisoned Sky, 27–28). This gas floats up toward the sun into the stratosphere, and breaks apart (due to the sun's radiation). The Carbon and the Fluoride don't do much but the Chlorine literally eats away at the Ozone layer like an acid. "Why is that bad?" Might you ask, well it is harmful because the Ozone Layer protects everything on Earth from Ultra Violet Radiation. This in turn makes the Earth hotter. To make the Earth even hotter add to this Carbon Dioxide (CO2), a pollutant produced by combustion engines and fire, not to be confused with Carbon Monoxide, also a deadly gas (11). This gases blankets the inner atmosphere, holding most heat in, the term "Green house" is synanomis with CO2, because it gives reference to a plant greenhouse; which lets light in to heat up the room, but does not let it escape (9). Carbon Dioxide is that brown cloud hanging over downtown Phoenix. It is usually found in highly populated area (11). I know what you're thinking, "What the hell is he getting at, well with all of this heating of the atmosphere and eating of Ozone layers, a multitude of things happen. • 3. The Importance Of Land Pollution Oh, what a unique and beautiful world we live in! How marvelous is nature and its habitants who have respected this place since the beginning of their existence. Although, there came a species that disrupted the harmony of life, destroying this precious land because of their will to dominate. What a catastrophe they have created for the environment by contaminating the natural resources that men willingly take for granted. I believe land pollution is important and should be considered a serious problem because it negatively affects human health, it creates more pollution in other settings, and overall it results in environmental degradation. Land pollution is one of many pollutions humans fight against. Other pollutions like water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, and more are crucial as well, but I believe land pollution is one of the major types of pollution because its aftermath. Anyhow, land pollution is the contamination of earth's surface for the people's misuse of the land. To be brief, there are different types of land pollution such as solid waste, pesticides and fertilizers, chemicals, and deforestation. According to the United Nations, the U.S is one of the top contributors to land pollution, disposing over 110 million tons of waste per year. Land pollution as well causes the Earth to lose approximately 25 billion tons of valuable topsoil each year. Additionally, it takes at least 500 years for a couple Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. In this research paper we will begin explaining our topic (land pollution) on a broad scale, relating things to the whole world. As we get deeper into our topic we will go more in depth into how land pollution affects our community and how we can relate to it in our everyday life. The main questions that we will be answering in this paper is;what is land pollution?, what are the causes and effects of land pollution?, what are the different types of land pollution?, and how can we prevent land pollution? According to eschooltoday.com, Land pollution is the deterioration (destruction) of the earth's land surfaces, often directly or indirectly as a result of man's activities and their misuse of land resources. As the days go...show more content... This includes, but is not limited to, the production of airborne diseases and soil erosion because the soil barely gets any nutrients. The second type of land pollution is pesticides and fertilizers. Many farming activities engage in the use of pesticides and fertilizers to extend their crops .Sometimes because of this, many insects and small animals are killed and bigger animals that eat small animals could be possibly harmed because of the contamination in the smaller animals. Also, fertilization can develop water pollution because when it rains the runoff rolls into a nearby stream harming the fish habitat. The third type of land pollution is chemicals. Chemicals in nuclear power plants produce waste that have to be stored. Manufactures produce lots of liquid chemical waste . Even with being stored into an environmentally safe way, most of the waste flows into landfills and other storage facilities that are not safe. Power plants combust fossil fuels and biomass resulting in contaminating the soil. Radioactive chemicals in nuclear power stations are stored underground and because of the rays in the waste can cause hazardous effects on human and wildlife such as lung and skin cancer. Last but not least, trees are greatly used in industrialization and because millions of trees are cut down for wood, mining, and farming ; new trees are never grown back which result in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Natural Environment And Pollution In Nagaland Though Nagaland seems to be a state without or less industry which can produce a large amount of toxic waste or pollute the atmosphere to a great extend as serious as consider to the other states in our country. But this does not mean that our land is pollution free state as pollution comes through the use of motor vehicle and habit of chemical fertilizer that pollutes water. Felling of trees in large scale, burning of jungle, motor vehicles, and dumping of waste without proper measures are the agents that put weight to our environment and polluting the nature with fast pace in Nagaland. Extensive use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides change the nature of soil and slowly depletes natural nutrients, not only damaging the soil but contaminates river water with human as victims. Pollution remains a neglected phenomenon for Nagaland because citizens and authority alike considered the modern hazard as nothing more than a convenient abnormality. We need to view it as a hard modern reality that has factual, continuous, and quantifiable effect on humans, wildlife, and the environment. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that adversely alters its nature. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. It might be one fewer worry but the question about the unaddressed environmental issues requires action by value of implementation . 2.4. Causes and Effect of Ecological Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Effects Of Land Pollution Many experts define the word pollution as the presence or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing harmful or has poisonous effects. Pollution damages all aspects of the environment. It impacts air, water, soil, food, and life quality. The Texas coastline in particular has been widely impacted by pollution specifically land pollution and it has still been impacted till this day. There are many types of pollution in the world, but land pollution has taken a toll in many environments especially the Texas coast. Many major industries and the public make many environmental mistakes that affects the Texas coast. Those mistakes harm the physical condition of coastline, but there some solutions we as a public can take to better care about the Texas coast. The ways we can reduce land pollution is to propose a three–way solution to this devastating issue. There many solutions we can think of to solve this problem but this three–way solutions to combat land pollution more compatible. If the public issues certain types of laws, do regulations on major industries, and provide an advisory of what to come if land pollution is still continuing. These solutions contribute in a way that they minimize the variety of land pollution in natural areas including the Texas coast. We should push for a purity environment where we can experience these natural areas without the overwhelming image of land pollution, Perez 2 As I recall, there are many types of pollution but in the Texas Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Consequences Of Pollution People have heard of pollution, but what some don't know is that there are many types of pollution. Pollution can have different consequences depending on what kind there is. In the world so far there are only nine types of pollution that have been recognized. Although this can be negative to the world it's also affecting the health of people as well. In order to understand what pollution can do to you and the world you need to know the types that are causing the harm. The first type is air pollution. This type can be harm to the world by contaminating the atmosphere. It can come in matter like dust or excessive gases such as carbon dioxide or vapors that can't be removed through nature that not even the cycles can remove them such as the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle. Vehicles, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, dry soil erosion, building construction or demolition and other natural sources are another cause of air pollution. Although there isn't much of volcanic eruptions or dry soil erosions those are the ones that seem to be the most dangerous for other parts of the world while the rest are more common. Study shows that science prove that they believe global warming is also a way to increase the air pollution. The largest source of nitrogen is in the atmosphere. Without nitrogen in the atmosphere the crops can be lost and would affect farmers. If the farmers are affected there won't be as much crop production to be sold anywhere and the government would have to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Air And Water Pollution Essay Air and water pollution is one of the biggest problems the environment faces today. It is one of the highest leading cause of death. Air and water pollution has been affecting the environment for many years causing many diseases among people especially children. I will study and examine the early childhood growth between two countries which are Australia and Tanzania. I will discuss how clean and polluted their air and water is for each country. Their access to clean water. I will also explain the effects that can occur when water is contaminated. How children are affected when they don 't have access to primary essentials and how each country and their environment and living condition might threatened a child 's life. Hazardous...show more content... But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently shown that drinking water in some parts of Australia has shown to be contaminated with uranium, faecal bacteria and nitrates. (Schwarzenbach, R., Egli, T., Hofstetter, T., Von Gunten, U., & Wehrli, B. (2010).Meaning those who don 't have access to clean water in Australia will likely become sick or catch a disease affecting not only their growth but a child growth as well. Water is important to the human body. As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who are of high income. (Health, J., & Kim. (2004) found that air pollution can cause chronic effects on the development of a child that can lead to many illnesses like asthma and bronchitis as a result of living in high–ozone country meaning high pollutant than those who live in a low–ozone country.Committee on Environmental Health, J., & Kim. (2004). In Australia, food security is considered to be an important social determinant of health and a significant public health issue at national and state levels. Food insecurity is, however, especially important to child and family Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Cause And Effect Essay On Air Pollution Pollution has become a prevalent issue worldwide and has begun to affect the air used to breathe, the soil used to grow food, and the water used to drink. All of these effects result in commonly occurring destruction of health and wildlife that one may have seen on the news or heard from peers. In order to live, one needs food, water, clothing, and shelter. If the water and food that society consumes gets contaminated, a major component of life has been eradicated, which can only have negative consequences. If more people are educated as to what effects the environment, the world has a chance to counteract the effects of pollution. The main causes of pollution are the burning of fossil fuels such as with car exhausts, littering as a result of societal norms and laziness, and factory waste as a result of lax waste regulation, and can result in mass destruction of the environment and catastrophic effects on the everyday lives of contemporary people. The amount of factories and industries has grown immensely through the previous years which has resulted in an expansion in the consumption of petroleum products. Innovation has begun to increase and has promoted the expansion of the production of cars. As stated by the Air Quality Research Center, "Air pollution is one of the most dangerous environmental problems, causing many adverse health effects and responsible for 50,000 deaths in the U.S. each year" (Air Pollution and Health – Air Quality Research Center.). • 10. Effects Of Land Pollution The most significant issues with the land pollution are deforestation, soil contamination, and the improper disposal of garbage. "Land pollution is the degradation or destruction of earth's surface and soil, directly or indirectly because of human activities; it refers to any activity that lessens the quality and/or productivity of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, and construction" (CEF, LandPollution, para. 2). Some people understand land pollution as damaging the earth's surfaces. There are many places that are suffering due to land pollution. In the Philippines, there were 5,000 people living in tents due to typhoon "Yolanda" in the year 2013; one of the effects that caused the typhoon isdeforestation, which also dropped down the forest cover from 70 to 20 percent. (Canadian Reference Center, 2013, para. 28). These damaging effects on the environment do not only impact the forest alone but also cause properties to be destroyed and lives to be taken away. Using hazardous substances in the soil is also an example of land pollution because this can lead to soil contamination. Soil contamination occurs in a lot of developing countries such as Ukraine, which has 8% of its land contaminated due to fertilizers in the year 2014 (The Economist, 2017, para. 4). This soil contamination creates destruction to the land that can be used for agriculture, where people get their source of food. One of the possible effects of soil contamination is the loss of soil fertility. Some farmers use chemical fertilizers to increase the plant growth, however, these only release toxins into the soil and reduce soil fertility (Baker, 2017, para. 3). This action does not just affect the fertility of the soil, but it also has consequences to the growth of population, number of deaths of humans and animals, which results from the ingestion of foods from contaminated soil. Another thing that is also a concern in the society referring to deterioration of the earth's land is the waste that is collected and sent to different landfills. Garbage can be seen everywhere, whether in schools, restaurants, or home. Waste is very common in many places and is also known as a cause of pollution. The biggest source of waste is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Air and Water Pollution essay INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so different as compared to the atmosphere that existed before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830. To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made) emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission which can be divided into biogenic and geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound emissions from forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt emissions, and...show more content... –automobiles are the largest sources of VOCs for the reaction–concentrations tend to peak in the afternoon, causing eye irritation and aggravation of respiratory diseases Lead (Pb)–Pb levels in the air has decreased considerably with gradual elimination of lead in gasoline worldwide –leaded gasoline combustion –combustion of solid waste, coal and oils –emissions from iron and steel production and lead smelters –tobacco smoke–affect blood and kidney –affect the nervous, immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems The above table was constructed based on the information obtained from : Daly, A. and P. • 12. What Is Land Pollution? What is Land Pollution? When we talk about air or water pollution, the reactions garnered are stronger. This is because we can see the effects caused by the pollutants and their extent very clearly. Anthropogenic activities are conducted citing development, and the same affects the land drastically, we witness land pollution; by drastic we are referring to any activity that lessens the quality and/or productivity of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, construction etc. The degradation of land that could be used constructively in other words is land pollution. Land Pollution has led to a series of issues that we have come to realize in recent times, after decades of neglect. The increasing numbers of barren land plots and the decreasing numbers of forest cover is at an alarming ratio. Moreover the extension of cities and towns due to increasing population is leading to further exploitation of the land. Land fills and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay about Pollution Pollution Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue. Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content... American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves. The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay on Pollution in The Bahamas Evo Morales stated, "Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans" (Pollution Quotes, 2013). Hence, attention must be provided to this devastating issue. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse changes (Wieman, 2013). There are numerous types of pollution, such as light, air, land, water, noise, thermal and radioactive pollution. In an article, the author highlighted that according to Richard Buckminster Fuller, "Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting, we allow them to disperse because we've...show more content... There are numerous types of pollution, but due to the activities mention above, The Bahamas has three majors' well–known types of pollution, which are land, water and air. The Bahamas has face land pollution due to the Bahamian littering, water pollution due to the recent oil spills, and sewage, and air pollution mainly by burning of fossil fuel and exhaust from cruise ships and cars. Land Pollution Firstly, land pollution is the contamination of the soil that prevents natural growth and balance in the land whether it is used for cultivation, habitation, or a wildlife preserve (Nathanson, 2013, para. 1). Some land pollution, such as the creation of landfills, is deliberate, while much more is accidental and can have widespread effects. Land pollution are cause by hazardous waste and sewage spills, non–sustainable farming practices such as the heavy use of inorganic pesticides, household dumping and littering, industrial factories, overcrowded landfills and construction debris (Mayntz, 2006). Land pollution can have an effect on human, water, soil and animals. Land pollution can also have effects on human respiratory system, problems on the skin and can cause various kinds of cancers. Land pollution can cause very bad smell and odor in the area, breed rodents like rats, mice and insects, who in–turn transmit diseases, and land pollution can prevent tourists Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Water Pollution Essay: Saving The Environment Sometimes it is forgotten in daily life how important the world around us actually is. The water we drink, the air we breathe, and the land we live on is all we have. The problem though is a lot of business owners forget that when they are developing kickbacks or loopholes to bypass laws that protect the environment and in doing so is saving them copious amounts of money. By accomplishing this, it is ruining the one thing that grants us prosperity and life, the Earth. In a public remark, by former president Bill Clinton, he had this to say, "...Creating thriving companies and new jobs doesn't have to come at the expense of the air we breathe, the water we drink... or the natural landscape in which we live." Although industrialization is great for the economic growth and development for a country, this can also be harmful for the environment itself. One of the most common issues with businesses and the environment is the disposal of waste. Not only do communities itself make an immense amount of waste, but also corporations that manufacture certain products or goods. Due to the costs certain companies accrue from environmental laws, companies often times find more efficient and cost effective ways to produce their goods, but this also lays waste to an extreme amount of byproducts that tarnish our environment. Most of these byproducts are also being burned at waste disposal sites that create air pollution and in turn pollutes our water supply and land. The problem in most Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Acid rain is formed when sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and...show more content... Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump freshoxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. WASTE GENERATION IN IBADAN Solid waste Although it is generally agreed that enormous quantities of solid waste are generated in Ibadan daily, the exact figures have not been determined, probably owing to the use of diverse methods of calculation. Maclaren International Ltd (1970) found that the average per capita quantity of solid waste generated was 0.37–0.5 kg/day for the traditional areas of the city and 0.53 kg/day for the newer areas. According to Egunjobi (1986), 38 million kg of solid waste was collected in the suburbs of Ibadan in 1986. The suburbs constitute about 21% of the city. On this basis, it can be estimated that 181 million kg of solid waste was generated in the city as a whole in 1986. This gives a per capita waste–generation rate of 0.31 kg/day, using the 1986 estimated population of 1.6 million for the city. In 1982, PAI Associates recorded the volume and weight of solid waste generated Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Waterways are in serious danger of environmental catastrophe as a result of industrial waste and domestic rubbish. Everything living thing depends on water for life. Pollution affects marine life and freshwater animals. Factories built on the banks of estuaries have been found dumping residue and waste in waterways. Poisons and other toxins have leaked into the banks destroying species of native and endangered flora and causing outbreaks of disease within these plants. Similar to this has been the impact on the habitats of waterborne creatures interrupting delicate ecosystems and leading to the starvation and death of fish species. The flow on the effect of diseased estuaries can be found in oceans where the food sources of large fish species are being depleted. The impact of waste is compounded by the dumping of domestic rubbish. Plastic bags, aluminium, tin and other rubbish that is an eyesore, becomes an ideal breeding ground for dangerous bacteria that can cause disease. Did you know there is such thing as a pacific garbage patch? In late 1997 there was a discovery of a new continent that exists between the Hawaiian Islands and the coast of California. This continent which is approximately two times the size of Texas is not one that is comprised by land. • 20. The Solution Of Land Pollution "A clean home is a happy home!" This quotation applies to the dilemma that is being partaken in this problem. In many cases, your place of residence defines who you are as a person or in this situation, as a community. I don't know too many people that would like to visit or even live in an unsanitary environment. The land pollution that invades the streets of the small town could've been prevented but is solvable with the work of a proposition. I would like to propose a plan to improve the living conditions of my hometown. I suggest the residents of Waverly come together to conduct a cleaning plan throughout the entire town. As a result, the locked potential could be revealed and astonish the doubters. With the motivation and cooperation of the town's people, we could limit the amount of pollution in the municipality of Waverly. The initial purpose of this essay is to find the solution to the litter found on the surface of the town's surroundings. Before discussing on how to resolve the problem, we have to establish what exactly is "land pollution". There can be many different ideas for the concept within most of earth's areas. It is an occurring issue in today's society that is overlooked by many in the population. Over a period of time, it collects and eventually blends in with the setting. It can be thought of as just a few pieces of litter here and there, but there's more to it.
