When a pet becomes part of your family or a close friend, they enrich your lives in so many ways. They can brighten your mood, influence your decisions and even make you laugh or cry. This is why the bond formed between you and your pet is so unique.
It is for this reason, that the loss of a pet can be so devastating. The overwhelming feeling is that of sadness and how your life will be changed by the realisation that your pet will no longer be there with you.
2. Welcome to Peaceful Harmony
My name is Diana Street and I
am a pet lover and qualified Pet
Bereavement Counsellor.
I love doing what I do because
nothing saddens me more than
to see anyone suffer from the
loss of their dear pet and
companion.
If this has happened to you, you
do not have to cope on your
own. I am here to help you
balance and energise your life.
3. My journey started here
Sacred Heart Convent
Sri Lanka - an island country
in the northern Indian
Ocean off the southern
coast of the Indian
subcontinent in South Asia.
This is where I went to school and where,
from a very early age, found it easy to listen
attentively to anyone who was felling sad,
lonely or in need of a friend.
4. Why Pet Bereavement?
My Friend’s Budgie
Last Summer a client came
to see me because her pet
budgie had died.
I realised it wasn’t just a
budgie … it was in fact her
best friend and companion.
I helped her come to terms
with her loss.
5. My Pet Bereavement Training
Pet Bereavement
Counselling Skills
Cambridge Institute of
Dog Behaviour and
Training (CIDBT)
Practical and theoretical
training to develop an
understanding of
supporting others in
times of pet loss.
6. How do you feel?
Suffering the loss of a pet is a devastating experience that sadly not
everyone understands. You will also have lost a best ‘friend’ who
supported you in so many ways:
• A dear pet who was your companion and friend
• A dear pet who you talked to all the time
• A dear pet who you took for walks for regular exercise
• A dear pet who played with your children and comforted your
elderly relatives
• A dear pet who understood how you were feeling at any point in
time and was always there for you
• A dear pet who made you laugh with their funny antics, cute face
and unique personality
7. Do you feel guilty?
One of the worst things to overcome when you lose a pet are feelings
of guilt or regret that will not go away:
• You did not do enough to prevent their loss
• You did not get them to see a vet in time
• You blame your vet for not doing more
• You blame a person or people if your pet was involved in an accident
• You were never at home and should have been there for them
• You did not exercise them or provide them with a balanced diet
• You exercised them too much and did not realise the strain on them
• You did not have enough money to pay for specialist treatment
• You did not realise they needed anything from you because they
never complained
8. I am here to help you …
It’s very difficult to come to terms with the loss of a dear pet and it

way
• Help you cope with your traumatic loss and loneliness
