2. Hey, we’re Ashley and Devin! We’re two best friends who wanted to do a little something
to brighten Boston commuters’ days, so we started communiT Boston as a side project.
We think of it as part community engagement project, part social experiment, and part
free event planning organization.
We thought that all the time that people spend waiting for the T, headphones in, eyes
down, represented many missed opportunities for fun and connection. So every month,
we offer free, offbeat events that encourage commuters to step out of the monotony of
their everyday routines. We’re here to break norms, connect people in new ways, and
inject a little more fun and meaning into people’s commutes. Let’s put the T in
communiT!
We hope that you enjoy the attached material from our previous events!
3. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with communiT!
Saturday, February, 14, 2015: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Harvard Square Inbound T Platform
They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. Yet how infrequently we manage to
take that first simple peek!
At our inaugural event this Valentine’s Day, communiT Boston invites people at the
Harvard Square Inbound T platform to challenge that norm and reach out to their fellow
passersby: Can you make eye contact with a stranger for 60 seconds?
If eye contact isn’t your thing, we’ll also be handing out free carnations. Of course, there’s
one caveat: we ask that recipients not keep the flowers for themselves, but instead
challenge themselves to share the love by passing the carnations along to someone else,
whether that’s a stranger they run into on their way home or whomever they’re taking the
T to meet.
Just to be clear...
- This event is free.
- Participation is voluntary.
- We’re doing this because we’re both passionate about the idea of connecting
strangers to one another in offbeat and thought-provoking ways, and we’re fortunate to
have the time and resources to attempt to do so.
We’ll be collecting responses to this event in any form (photos, stories, art, poems, etc.)

5. Let Go and Look Up!
Saturday, April 4, 2015: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
Harvard Square Inbound T Platform
Let communiT help you let go and look up!
We’ll be hanging out at the Harvard T station inbound platform starting at noon on
Saturday with a paper shredder. You’ll have the chance to write down something you
need to let go of in your life, and then you’ll get the carnal satisfaction of shredding it!
Claim your own personal blank slate. Plus, who knows what will happen with the resultant
confetti?
THIS IS YOUR BLANK SLATE...

9. Two Strangers, Two Tin Cans, and a String: A Social Experiment in
Communication
Saturday, June 20, 2015: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
Park Street T Stop in the Boston Common
Join us as we put away our smart phones and bring long-distance communication back
to the basics. We’ll be asking strangers to have a casual chat with each other using the
original walkie talkie: two cans and a piece of string! Don’t know what to say? No worries,
we’ll have some fun icebreakers on hand, like “If you had a $100 gift certificate to a
candy store (with every possible candy in it), what would you spend it on?” So come dial
up your inner child, practice your active listening skills, and connect with someone new!

13. The Worry Bead Project
Saturday, October 3, 2015: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
ArtWeek Fall 2015, Park Street T Stop in the Boston Common
Come join communiT Boston’s Worry Bead Project, and add your own unique bead to
our community strand! The worry bead has a long, cross-cultural tradition as an
instrument for mindful relaxation and contemplation. We invite you to be part of our
reworking of an ancient ritual by writing down your worries on the bead of your choice.
The color of each bead will serve as a visual representation of the different categories of
worries, whether they be relational, financial, or spiritual, etc. Watch as individuals’ internal
experiences are transformed into a collective art piece over the course of the afternoon.
