Formula Student (FS) is Europe’s most established educational motorsport
competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Backed by industry and
high profile engineers such as their Patron Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to
inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers.
Universities from across the globe are challenged to design and build a single-seat
racing car. They compete at Silverstone Circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, in a
three-day event where their car’s performance, design and sustainability as well as
the students’ ability to present their business case, is assessed.
Diverse range of prestigious industrial organisations such as Mercedes Amg
Petronas, Formula One Team, Jaguar, Land rover, National Instruments, Airbus and
Shell have shown their tremendous support to the competition by building
associations with the participating teams for many years and helping them to shape
the Future of Automotive Industry. At FS, our competitors gain crucial practical
experience and transferable skills, preparing them for employment in a diverse range
of industries.

Indigenous innovations require time from ideation to implementation. Our R&D
wing will provide the foundation for innovative technologies to be implemented
in our upcoming participation at the competition. Some future ready projects
taking shape at R&D include:
» Designing of CAN based sensor network for car
» Implementation of carbon fibre monocoque chassis
» Introduction of aerodynamic wings to improve vehicular performance
» Implementation of Anti-lock Braking System to improve stability
» Endurance mapping to optimise powertrain

13. PREVIOUS SPONSORS WORDS OF APPRECIATION
It has been rather good to see the young engineers at work.
We have been encouraged by their enthusiasm and drive.
I have been mentoring this team for over 5 years now. The amount
of hard work they put in has only increased over the years.
These students apply classroom theory in real life. Really happy
with their performance over the years.
