9. Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3Praise be to the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us in the heavenly realms
with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
4For he chose us in him before the
creation of the world to be holy and
blameless in his sight. In love 5he b
predestined us for adoption to
sonship c through Jesus Christ, in
accordance with his pleasure and
will— 6to the praise of his glorious
grace, which he has freely given us in
the One he loves. 7In him we have

redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, in accordance with
the riches of God’s grace 8that he
lavished on us. With all wisdom and
understanding, 9he d made known to
us the mystery of his will according to
his good pleasure, which he purposed in
Christ, 10to be put into effect when the
times reach their fulfillment—to bring
unity to all things in heaven and on
earth under Christ.
11In him we were also chosen, e having
been predestined according to the plan
of him who works out everything in
conformity with the purpose of his will,

truly I tell you, I am the gate for the
sheep. 8All who have come before
me are thieves and robbers, but the
sheep have not listened to them. 9I
am the gate; whoever enters through
me will be saved. a They will come in
and go out, and find pasture. 10The
thief comes only to steal and kill and
destroy; I have come that they may
have life, and have it to the full.11“I

shepherd lays down his life for the

16. The Call of Wisdom
20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice;
21 at the head of the noisy streets she
cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she
speaks:
22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love
being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their
scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
23 If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will
pour out my spirit to you;
I will make my words known to you.
Proverbs 1
24 Because I have called and you
refused to listen,
have stretched out my hand and no
one has heeded,
25 because you have ignored all my
counsel
and would have none of my reproof,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when terror strikes you,
27 when terror strikes you like a storm
and your calamity comes like a
whirlwind, when distress and anguish
come upon you.
28 Then they will call upon me, but I will
not answer;
they will seek me diligently but will

29 Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 would have none of my counsel
and despised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their
way,
and have their fill of their own devices.
32 For the simple are killed by their turning
away,
and the complacency of fools destroys
them;
33 but whoever listens to me will dwell
secure
and will be at ease, without dread of
disaster.”

The Value of Wisdom
2 My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments
with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to
understanding;
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for
understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden
treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of
the Lord

19. Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
1 Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up a its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed
her wine; she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servants, and she
calls from the highest point of the city,
4 “Let all who are simple come to my
house!”
To those who have no sense she says,
5 “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I
have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of insight.”
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites
insults;
Proverbs 9
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs
abuse.
8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will
hate you; rebuke the wise and they will
love you.
9 Instruct the wise and they will be
wiser still; teach the righteous and they
will add to their learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning
of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy
One is understanding.
11 For through wisdom b your days will
be many,and years will be added to
your life.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will
reward you;if you are a mocker, you

22. Wisdom’s Call
1 Does not wisdom call out?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 At the highest point along the way,
where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
3 beside the gate leading into the city,
a t the entrance, she cries aloud:
4 “To you, O people, I call out;
I raise my voice to all mankind.
5 You who are simple, gain prudence;
you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.
6 Listen, for I have trustworthy things to
say; I open my lips to speak what is right.
7 My mouth speaks what is true,
for my lips detest wickedness.
Proverbs 9
8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse.
9 To the discerning all of them are right;
they are upright to those who have
found knowledge.
10 Choose my instruction instead of
silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is more precious than
rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare
with her.
12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with
prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.
13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil;
Proverbs 9
36. 8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you
rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing
you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under
a curse—your whole nation—because
you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole
tithe into the storehouse, that there
may be food in my house. Test me in
this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if
I will not throw open the floodgates of
heaven and pour out so much
blessing that there will not be room
enough to store it. 11 I will prevent
pests from devouring your crops, and
the vines in your fields will not drop

their fruit before it is ripe,” says the
Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations
will call you blessed, for yours will be a
delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
Israel Speaks Arrogantly Against God
13 “You have spoken arrogantly against
me,” says the Lord.
“Yet you ask, ‘What have we said
against you?’
14 “You have said, ‘It is futile to serve
God. What do we gain by carrying out
his requirements and going about like
