Students at a school in Sikkim conducted a week-long assembly and rally to raise awareness about the high suicide rates in their state. They worked with an NGO called Red Ribbon Express to educate students about suicide, drugs, and AIDS through plays and counseling sessions. The students then held a silent march through the main market area to publicly raise awareness among community members about suicide and how to prevent it. The students hope their small efforts can help even one person struggling with suicidal thoughts and spark wider change in their community.

2. We have taken a small initiative in order to generate awareness against suicide and to sensitize the people as to how we can control the problem of suicide… to bring about the CHANGE……

3. A need for an awareness was felt when according to the latest report, Sikkim stands First in the number of suicides in the country and Rhenock holds the top spot in the State.

We believe our effort to be worthwhile if we have managed to touch a single dying soul and have given them hope and confidence through our effort to fight the battle of life and have moved a single concerned individual and developed an urge in him to carry his candle and run to the darkness, reach out the hopeless, confused and torn and somehow light their world…
