2. Pine Tree Country Quilts
In design quilting, your quilt block will be embellished with a
particular design. All you need to do is trace your design on
your patch. When the stitching lines follow the block's outline it
is called echo design quilting. Here the stitching lines are
repeated every quarter inch. Beginners do not usually practice
this as very heavy quilting is involved.

3. Quilt Precuts
It's usually safe to stay with 100% cotton, especially
for new quilters. Cotton is strong enough to hold up to
years of use, but not so dense that it's difficult to sew
through. Fabrics like plush and Minky are fun, but tend
to slide around a lot, making them challenging for new
sewers to work with while extra thick fabrics like
denim require special sewing machine needles and a
firm hand. Test your fabric by washing it BEFORE you
cut or sew to make sure the colors won't run after all
your hard work.

5. Christmas Quilt Books
In overall design quilting, the blocks pattern is ignored and an overall design is used. Diamonds, grids of
squares and clamshells are three designs that are used often in overall design quilting. The fabric and
pattern that you choose affects the type of quilting design and vice versa. Naturally, if you are going to
use stencils as your design method, then you should choose a fabric that has enough room for
stenciling.

6. Quilt Fabric
The main processes involved in quilting includes piecing or the
sewing of the top layer of the quilt which are pieces of fabric
set together to make up your design or pattern. You will also
need to do layering and quilting which involves sewing together
the layers of your quilt. Your stitch may also follow a decorative
pattern that matches your design as well.

7. Laundry Basket Quilts
Color is usually what draws us into the design and
quite often determines whether or not we like the quilt.
Make sure you keep an open mind when viewing and
choosing a quilt design. Dont let a color you are not
fond of determine your choice. I am a traditional
quilter in that I work with what I have. Looking at the
great outdoors has convinced me that all colors go
together. The only thing I know about the color wheel
is that it is round.

9. Quilt Patterns
For me the most important attribute of the fabric is not the
color but the value. Is it a dark green or a medium green? The
difference in the values (light to dark) allows you to see the
individual pieces that make up the design. I love the crisp look
of high contrast so my work usually starts with a light and a
dark fabric. I use these to establish the important aspects of
the design i.e. star points and then fill in with the medium color
values to complete the design. The closer the color values the
more the pieces will blend together, the farther away the color
values are, the greater the contrast and the more definite the
design. So if you are just beginning make sure when you pick
you fabrics that you have a range of color value.

would probably be to get yourself a hobby. You can
take cooking classes, hiking, or try any extreme
sports. If you don't want to leave your home, you can
take other hobbies such as knitting, cross-stitching,
or sewing. Or better yet, why not make y our own
quilt? It could be fun, it will keep you busy and this will
give you the chance to personalize your things

slowly, build momentum, and before you know it - you are
actually quilting. I remember how difficult it seemed when I
was learning to make my first several quilts. I kept having to re-
read the same instructions and re-ask the same questions over
and over. I was almost ready to throw in the towel and give up;
A very frustrating experience. Fortunately, though, my mother
persuaded me to keep going. I am so thankful she did because
the day finally arrived when I realized that I was actually quilting
- without having to read instructions and without having to ask
questions - and it felt just as natural as learning to walk.

13. Christmas Quilt Books
Set your sewing machine to the standard seam
allowance used for quilts, which is an exact quarter
inch seam. One way to improve a block that is either
too large or too small is to use the freezer paper
method and square up the block before sewing it
together. Gridded freezer paper makes the job easier,
but the plain freezer paper will work to help make the
block more even.
