The document discusses the use of various media technologies in the planning, production, and evaluation stages of a coursework project. Blogger was used to document the process and receive feedback. Prezi helped with planning by allowing ideas to be spread out visually. Wordle was brief but eye-catching. Mobile phones assisted with planning, production, and communication. A digital camera captured high-quality shots but batteries drained quickly. Adobe Premier Elements aided smooth editing but required chronological order. Photoshop enabled image editing. Google provided research. YouTube offered inspiration and allowed embedding. Facebook facilitated event planning and communication.
1. Evaluation – Question 4
How did you use media technologies
in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Blogger.com
Advantages
Planning - The benefit of using blogger was the fact that I used it for my coursework last year and
therefore I was familiar with how it worked and how to use it effectively. It helped me throughout
the whole project because it allowed me to document exactly what I was doing so I could then look
back at it.
Production - My classmates and teacher were also able to comment on the posts as I uploaded them so
I could know how to improve during production before it was too late.
Evaluation – I was able to look back at posts I had previously made which helped me with my
evaluation questions. Blogger also makes it possible to embed things for many different websites so
I was able to put work I had done on other websites onto blogger so that everything was in one
place and therefore less complicated.
Disadvantages
Planning - A disadvantage of using blogger was that I am not particularly great at updating blogs weekly
which made it hard for me to keep up.
Production – I sometimes got negative feedback in blog comments when I uploaded a finished version
of a piece of the coursework so it was very difficult and time consuming to then go back and
change it.
Evaluation – I preferred to type everything on Word before uploading it onto Blogger but this was
difficult because Word and Blogger use different formatting so it did not look the same when I
uploaded and I then had to go back and change it which was time consuming.
3. Prezi
Planning – Made planning easier because I was able to spread
out all my ideas onto Prezi. It is also a good way to briefly
and clearly explain something in a way that is easy to read
and follow.
Evaluation - A major benefit of using Prezi is that it looks
interesting can be made rather eye-catching. Due to the
fact that in can be embedded into the blog it gives those
reading a break from all the tedious writing on my blog.
Planning and Evaluation - A disadvantage of using Prezi
however is that it is rather difficult to grasp exactly how to
use it. This was the case for me even after I used it last year
for my AS coursework.
4. Wordle
Advantages
Production , Planning and Evaluation - Some
advantages of using Wordle are that it is brief and
it looks nice and it is eye-catching.
Disadvantages
Production, Planning and Evaluation - A
disadvantage of using Wordle for this coursework
is that there was not much that it could be used
for because it is so brief.
5. Mobile Phones
Advantages
Planning - I was able to use my Iphone to practice shots I wanted to use on
the camera during filming and also to write down ideas I had to assure
they were not forgotten.
Production - The use of my phone was also important on the filming day. I
was able to reach my parents to drive to our location with the filming
equipment and also to reach everybody that was supposed to be
attending via Facebook, text, call and other various phone applications. I
also used a phone in my music video so I could link with different forms of
technology and link to my target audience.
Disadvantages
Production - A disadvantage of mobile phones during filming was that
because there was a lot of teenagers they were using their phones a lot
and not paying attention to announcements which made them quite
difficult to control and direct.
6. Digital Cameras
Advantages
Planning - The camera I used was a Canon D600. It really helped during
planning because I was able to take it away and practice different shots. I
even filmed some of another music video before my main one to assure I
knew how to use the camera to the best of my ability.
Production – During production the camera helped me to get clear and high
definition shots which made my music video look more professional. It
was also very good for auto-focus.
Disadvantages
Planning – A disadvantage of having access to the camera during the planning
stage was I focused solely on that and neglected other aspects of
planning.
Production – During filming the batteries tended to run out rather fast which
was a disadvantage because there was nowhere to charge them and even
if there was it would be time-consuming.
7. Adobe Premier Elements
Advantages
Production – Adobe Premier Elements was extremely helpful when
editing my video. It allowed me to edit smoothly and cut exactly on
the beat of the song. I was also able to use a number of different
effects such as the mirror and the split screen effect to make my
video more appealing
Disadvantages
Planning – Premier elements was not working properly during the
planning process so I had no practice before I began editing my
proper video.
Production – One disadvantage of using premier elements during
production was that I was not able to edit in any order I wanted I
had to edit in a chronological order.
8. Photoshop
Advantages
Planning – An advantage of Photoshop during
planning was that because I had previously used
it last year I knew exactly what I was capable of
so I was able to plan within my boundaries.
Production – I was able to edit my pictures to make
them look more professional. Photoshop also
helped my cut round my pictures so that they
could be placed on different backgrounds.
9. Google
Advantages
Planning – This helped me during planning because I was able
to look up and research real examples of digipaks and
adverts which gave me an idea of what mine should look
like.
Evaluation – I was able to look up my evaluation questions
which helped me when I began to write the evaluation.
Disadvantages
Planning – With the use of the internet there is always the
temptation of copying everything from where you’ve found
it which means your work will not be original.
10. YouTube
Advantages
Planning – I was able to look up and analyse other real music
videos which helped me when creating mine. I found a lot
of inspiration for my music video from music videos on
YouTube. I was also able to look up music videos that other
media students had produced so I knew the level of work
that was expected of me. I also uploaded my music video
pitch onto YouTube and then embedded it onto my blog.
Evaluation – I was able to watch my video whilst writing my
evaluation and also take screen grabs of different shots and
camera angles I had used to add to my answer and make it
more clear. I also uploaded the video of the feedback given
to me by my class mates after they viewed my video which
helped me answer question 3.
11. Facebook
Advantages
Planning – Due to the fact I need a lot of people for my video shoot I
had to invite a large group of my friends, Facebook made it a lot
easier. I was able to create an event on there and invite all the
people I wanted to come. They could then click ‘attending’, ‘maybe
attending’ or ‘not attending so that I had an idea of the numbers
that would be there. I was also able to keep everyone updated on
any changes and what they should bring and wear etc.
Production – Facebook helped me on the day of filming because I was
able to contact everyone via Facebook to find out where they were
if they were going to be late etc.
Evaluation – I posted the link of my music video onto Facebook and
my friends were able to comment and leave feedback which I then
took a print screen of and evaluated for my Question 3 answer.
