Find out some signs, that
indicate your child
readiness to start Potty
Training
So, here you are, thinking about potty training your child. I’m pretty sure
you have millions of questions on your mind. The main sign that both of you
are ready is your confidence about knowing what to do, and noticing that
your little one gives you proper signs. In this article we’ve gathered useful
information on this topic, so don’t worry as we have all the answers to your
questions.
Big and small signs indicating that
your kid is ready
First of all, prior to potty training your kid, you need to understand that this
process requires a child to be both cognitive and emotionally developed
enough to understand the whole idea. This is essential if you want to get
this done quickly and effectively. If you notice your kid staying dry for 2 or
even more hours at a time, your child knows how to take his undies and
pants down himself and sit on a potty, understands the general idea of
going to the bathroom… all these things are clear signs that your kid is
developed enough, to start potty training. Another important factor is
emotional readiness. You can identify this readiness, by noticing your kid
expressing interest in staying dry and clean, asking you to change clothes
when he stains it, being interested in potty, trying to sit there and not being
afraid. Another important issue is cognitive readiness, which can be
identified by being your kid understands communication, follows your
directions to do simple manipulations such as go there/do that. If you notice
all these signs in your kids behavior, with high level of confidence we can
say that your toddler is ready for a new stage of life.
Some authors say that there are smaller signs, that also indicate Childs
readiness for this process, such as interested in other peoples and animals
peeing or pooping, or desire to hide somewhere , when he needs to pee(
for example behind the curtain etc.) All this actions identify that your little
one is grown enough to go to the toile, choose either potty or a toilet seat
and stop using diapers.
Important: Take baby steps to success
There are certain phases of your kid readiness. You can notice, that
changes will happen step by step. The first step, your kid probably has
probably already mastered is stop pooping at night. After that there are
some more phases ahead.
The Typical Readiness Sequence
1. Nighttime bowel control
2. Daytime bowel control
3. Daytime bladder control
4. Nighttime bladder control
Not all parents know, that the majority of kids can control their bowel ny the
age of 12-18 month, on the other hand the last phase- controlling bladder
at night takes max time. Some doctors agree that night time wetting can be
a part of normal process even to the age of 6 years. But every child is
unique, so if you have any concerns, you should always consult with your
pediatrician.
Few methods of potty training you
should try
If you notice the signs of readiness , and you fell confident to start the
process of potty training, the major step you have to make at this point is to
decide on the method to use during your training. There are several
methods, considered to be the best and approved by pediatricians. You
can choose the one, which you feel is the best for you.
Slow but no-mess method :This is the method for patient parents. Your
kid will use pull-on/pull off diapers, trying to learn how to properly use a
potty. Of course failures will happen, but since your kid will use absorbal
underwear there won’t be much mess.
2-3 days intensive method: TwThis is the method many people find the
best for their kids, as you need to change diapers for underwear and give
your kid lots of liquids, and ask him to sit on a potty every now and
then. This method will require your constant supervision, as you would need
to watch for the signs and remind your kid to go to the potty.
The Blitz:This is the method for older kids, who understand what you are
asking them to do and physically ready.
What is interesting - all these methods are good for different types of
children. If one child needs a day to understand the concept, and since
then has no issues with potty, there could be totally opposite situation with
another kid, who mill require month to succeed in potty training. But the
truth is, there is no good and bad situation in this issue. You , as a parent,
will require patience and love to teach your little one to use the toilet in the
right way. It might take a day or a month, but in the end of the day all kids
will learn how to do it right.
Stay positive and patient
Potty training can become a really exhausting process, sometimes you will
need to clean the pee from the floor multiple times a day.Washing undies
all day long kill exhaust you as well. at some point whether you want to or
not you will feel frustration. And it’s natural .at this point of time it’s
necessary to remind yourself to stay calm and not to take frustration on
your little one. This is important first of all because if you start yelling
punishing your kid for failures it will definitely delay the process. And I’m
positive that making potty training last for months is not your goal. The
main recommendation here is to keep a focus On small successes. Cheer
your little one ,reward for peeing in the potty .
Pay attention to your kids lead
When it comes to potty training there are two totally different approaches.
One
big group of parents and doctors think that you shouldn’t potty train a kid
because when the time comes she will understand and do it himself. on the
other hand there are people who believe that there is nothing harmful about
introducing kids a concept of using potty and toilet. Another great point and
experienced parents make is the fact that you is the fact that being ready
for potty doesn’t guarantee that your child will be interested in this process.
The best the best advice here is to follow your child if he follows one step
you can suggest another, next step.
Some tips for successful potty training
Now I want to discuss a few easy yet so effective steps you can take to
make sure the whole training process becomes easy and predictable for
you. Keep in mind that every kid has his time , sometimes it’s 11 months
and sometimes it’s closer to four years old. Don’t give up and don’t
concentrate too much on this. It will happen one way or another, but it’s
your choice to make this experience fun and relaxed or full of stress.
1. Introduce the Potty
This is the primary step. As a rule the majority of parents start potty -train
their kids between 16-29 month. The best way to start would be to buy a
nice, plain potty just after little ones first birthday. This will help a child to
get to know it a little better, get used to it and as a result not being afraid of
it. Another great idea would be to purchase some books about
potty-training. Show some pics of children sitting on a potty. The main goal
of this is to help your youngster to understand the idea of why people need
potty.
2. Wait until your child shows Signs of Readiness
Here are some signs that your child can give you. All of them will indicate
that you can try potty training. Pay attention to the intervals when your kid
can stay dry, if it can be even up to 2 hours or more than it is a good idea to
consider trying potty training. Another thing that is really important, your kid
can follow easy instructions. Such as “take off your pants”, have a sit on the
potty” etc. It is great if a child expresses interest in wearing grown
underwear. And the last, but not the least… it’s great if your child shows
any signs, when he pee or poops. All these will give the idea, that your
child is ready to start.
3. Find a perfect potty and set a place for it
These tips are the basics of potty training . First of all choose a simple
model, when choosing you have to be mindful that potty is not a toy. So the
best option would be a simple, plain design. Also it has to be comfortable
for your kid, cause you’re gonna spend quite some time sitting there,
especially for the first time. Next important step here is to find a great place
for it. Ideal in the bathroom, but it’s not necessary. And again, as we
agreed above, potty is not a toy, so never put it among toys. Also you can
buy a step-stool, so your child could reach the toilet, in case he prefers
adult oilers to a kid potty. By the way, if you decide to start with a real toilet,
you would have to buy a special toilet-seat cover for kids, to protect them
from falling inside.
4. Be sensitive when choosing the training time
Although your child might look perfectly ready for potty -training, we
strongly advise you to be very sensitive to choosing the time to start. For
example, it might not be a great idea to begin in the middle of a tough
period for the child. Make sure you’re not going through something serious
right no. Like, for instance, moving to another house, having a new baby or
guests a home, divorce or something like that. These are the examples of
bad timing for this process. The best period for potty training is a stress free
one, when you can experiment with new habits as a part of your daily
routine. Another thing worth mentioning is the latest trend on 2-3 days
training. I believe parents have to understand, that when the child is really
ready, after the training he will not need a diaper anymore. Most
pediatricians agree that
5. What should you do, when potty-training your kid
WOur main goal here is to make your child feel safe about the potty, and
then make sit-ing there a part of every-day routine. You can start with
asking your child to sit there first thing after the night and day sleep. These
are the periods, when you have really high chances to succeed . During
this time you can read your child books, sing songs together and entertain
him as you can. Your goal here is to keep your little one sitting on a potty
long enough, so he could do his “things” there. When your child gets used
to it, you can add another step, which is making him or her to take off his
pants and sit on a potty himself. And the last step, ask to flush the content
of the potty himself and wash his hands. Always stay positive, no matter
what was the result. If we’re talking about potty trained children, there are
really low chances for trained children to want to wear diapers again .
6. Don’t forget about small treats.
Never get upset, even when accidents happen. This is life, and your child is
just learning how to do this right. Instead of criticizing your kid, you should
try to encourage him . You can use different types of reward for every
potty-success. It can be either a sticker or a small treat. You shouldn’t give
anything big every time your little does everything right, but you can think
about something extra nice, for big achievements. For example, three days
without failures and you get something tasty or go to the caffe together. As
you understand, the whole process has to become a routine, parents’ role
is to guide a child and be gentle to failures and success, be patient and not
over-react .
7. Teach Proper Hygiene
I want to remind you, that good habits can be gained in early childhood. As
a parent it is your duty to teach your kid the basics of hygiene routine. Yes,
sometimes it can be a little tiring reminding all the time to go wash hands
and helping to do so. But in the end of the day your child and you will only
benefit from all the efforts you’ve done. So, next time your child goes to the
bathroom don’t forget to remind him to open the water tap, get some soap
and rub his tiny hands for half a minute.
These were some essentials that will definitely help you to successfully
potty-train your child.

Power tools for power kids potty training

  • 1. Find out some signs, that indicate your child readiness to start Potty Training So, here you are, thinking about potty training your child. I’m pretty sure you have millions of questions on your mind. The main sign that both of you are ready is your confidence about knowing what to do, and noticing that your little one gives you proper signs. In this article we’ve gathered useful information on this topic, so don’t worry as we have all the answers to your questions. Big and small signs indicating that your kid is ready First of all, prior to potty training your kid, you need to understand that this process requires a child to be both cognitive and emotionally developed enough to understand the whole idea. This is essential if you want to get this done quickly and effectively. If you notice your kid staying dry for 2 or even more hours at a time, your child knows how to take his undies and pants down himself and sit on a potty, understands the general idea of going to the bathroom… all these things are clear signs that your kid is developed enough, to start potty training. Another important factor is emotional readiness. You can identify this readiness, by noticing your kid expressing interest in staying dry and clean, asking you to change clothes when he stains it, being interested in potty, trying to sit there and not being afraid. Another important issue is cognitive readiness, which can be
  • 2. identified by being your kid understands communication, follows your directions to do simple manipulations such as go there/do that. If you notice all these signs in your kids behavior, with high level of confidence we can say that your toddler is ready for a new stage of life. Some authors say that there are smaller signs, that also indicate Childs readiness for this process, such as interested in other peoples and animals peeing or pooping, or desire to hide somewhere , when he needs to pee( for example behind the curtain etc.) All this actions identify that your little one is grown enough to go to the toile, choose either potty or a toilet seat and stop using diapers. Important: Take baby steps to success There are certain phases of your kid readiness. You can notice, that changes will happen step by step. The first step, your kid probably has probably already mastered is stop pooping at night. After that there are some more phases ahead. The Typical Readiness Sequence 1. Nighttime bowel control 2. Daytime bowel control 3. Daytime bladder control 4. Nighttime bladder control Not all parents know, that the majority of kids can control their bowel ny the age of 12-18 month, on the other hand the last phase- controlling bladder at night takes max time. Some doctors agree that night time wetting can be a part of normal process even to the age of 6 years. But every child is unique, so if you have any concerns, you should always consult with your pediatrician.
  • 3. Few methods of potty training you should try If you notice the signs of readiness , and you fell confident to start the process of potty training, the major step you have to make at this point is to decide on the method to use during your training. There are several methods, considered to be the best and approved by pediatricians. You can choose the one, which you feel is the best for you. Slow but no-mess method :This is the method for patient parents. Your kid will use pull-on/pull off diapers, trying to learn how to properly use a potty. Of course failures will happen, but since your kid will use absorbal underwear there won’t be much mess. 2-3 days intensive method: TwThis is the method many people find the best for their kids, as you need to change diapers for underwear and give your kid lots of liquids, and ask him to sit on a potty every now and then. This method will require your constant supervision, as you would need to watch for the signs and remind your kid to go to the potty. The Blitz:This is the method for older kids, who understand what you are asking them to do and physically ready. What is interesting - all these methods are good for different types of children. If one child needs a day to understand the concept, and since then has no issues with potty, there could be totally opposite situation with another kid, who mill require month to succeed in potty training. But the truth is, there is no good and bad situation in this issue. You , as a parent, will require patience and love to teach your little one to use the toilet in the right way. It might take a day or a month, but in the end of the day all kids will learn how to do it right.
  • 4. Stay positive and patient Potty training can become a really exhausting process, sometimes you will need to clean the pee from the floor multiple times a day.Washing undies all day long kill exhaust you as well. at some point whether you want to or not you will feel frustration. And it’s natural .at this point of time it’s necessary to remind yourself to stay calm and not to take frustration on your little one. This is important first of all because if you start yelling punishing your kid for failures it will definitely delay the process. And I’m positive that making potty training last for months is not your goal. The main recommendation here is to keep a focus On small successes. Cheer your little one ,reward for peeing in the potty . Pay attention to your kids lead When it comes to potty training there are two totally different approaches. One big group of parents and doctors think that you shouldn’t potty train a kid because when the time comes she will understand and do it himself. on the other hand there are people who believe that there is nothing harmful about introducing kids a concept of using potty and toilet. Another great point and experienced parents make is the fact that you is the fact that being ready for potty doesn’t guarantee that your child will be interested in this process. The best the best advice here is to follow your child if he follows one step you can suggest another, next step. Some tips for successful potty training Now I want to discuss a few easy yet so effective steps you can take to make sure the whole training process becomes easy and predictable for you. Keep in mind that every kid has his time , sometimes it’s 11 months and sometimes it’s closer to four years old. Don’t give up and don’t concentrate too much on this. It will happen one way or another, but it’s your choice to make this experience fun and relaxed or full of stress. 1. Introduce the Potty
  • 5. This is the primary step. As a rule the majority of parents start potty -train their kids between 16-29 month. The best way to start would be to buy a nice, plain potty just after little ones first birthday. This will help a child to get to know it a little better, get used to it and as a result not being afraid of it. Another great idea would be to purchase some books about potty-training. Show some pics of children sitting on a potty. The main goal of this is to help your youngster to understand the idea of why people need potty. 2. Wait until your child shows Signs of Readiness Here are some signs that your child can give you. All of them will indicate that you can try potty training. Pay attention to the intervals when your kid can stay dry, if it can be even up to 2 hours or more than it is a good idea to consider trying potty training. Another thing that is really important, your kid can follow easy instructions. Such as “take off your pants”, have a sit on the potty” etc. It is great if a child expresses interest in wearing grown underwear. And the last, but not the least… it’s great if your child shows any signs, when he pee or poops. All these will give the idea, that your child is ready to start. 3. Find a perfect potty and set a place for it These tips are the basics of potty training . First of all choose a simple model, when choosing you have to be mindful that potty is not a toy. So the best option would be a simple, plain design. Also it has to be comfortable for your kid, cause you’re gonna spend quite some time sitting there, especially for the first time. Next important step here is to find a great place for it. Ideal in the bathroom, but it’s not necessary. And again, as we agreed above, potty is not a toy, so never put it among toys. Also you can buy a step-stool, so your child could reach the toilet, in case he prefers adult oilers to a kid potty. By the way, if you decide to start with a real toilet, you would have to buy a special toilet-seat cover for kids, to protect them from falling inside.
  • 6. 4. Be sensitive when choosing the training time Although your child might look perfectly ready for potty -training, we strongly advise you to be very sensitive to choosing the time to start. For example, it might not be a great idea to begin in the middle of a tough period for the child. Make sure you’re not going through something serious right no. Like, for instance, moving to another house, having a new baby or guests a home, divorce or something like that. These are the examples of bad timing for this process. The best period for potty training is a stress free one, when you can experiment with new habits as a part of your daily routine. Another thing worth mentioning is the latest trend on 2-3 days training. I believe parents have to understand, that when the child is really ready, after the training he will not need a diaper anymore. Most pediatricians agree that 5. What should you do, when potty-training your kid WOur main goal here is to make your child feel safe about the potty, and then make sit-ing there a part of every-day routine. You can start with asking your child to sit there first thing after the night and day sleep. These are the periods, when you have really high chances to succeed . During this time you can read your child books, sing songs together and entertain him as you can. Your goal here is to keep your little one sitting on a potty long enough, so he could do his “things” there. When your child gets used to it, you can add another step, which is making him or her to take off his pants and sit on a potty himself. And the last step, ask to flush the content of the potty himself and wash his hands. Always stay positive, no matter what was the result. If we’re talking about potty trained children, there are really low chances for trained children to want to wear diapers again . 6. Don’t forget about small treats. Never get upset, even when accidents happen. This is life, and your child is just learning how to do this right. Instead of criticizing your kid, you should try to encourage him . You can use different types of reward for every potty-success. It can be either a sticker or a small treat. You shouldn’t give anything big every time your little does everything right, but you can think about something extra nice, for big achievements. For example, three days without failures and you get something tasty or go to the caffe together. As
  • 7. you understand, the whole process has to become a routine, parents’ role is to guide a child and be gentle to failures and success, be patient and not over-react . 7. Teach Proper Hygiene I want to remind you, that good habits can be gained in early childhood. As a parent it is your duty to teach your kid the basics of hygiene routine. Yes, sometimes it can be a little tiring reminding all the time to go wash hands and helping to do so. But in the end of the day your child and you will only benefit from all the efforts you’ve done. So, next time your child goes to the bathroom don’t forget to remind him to open the water tap, get some soap and rub his tiny hands for half a minute. These were some essentials that will definitely help you to successfully potty-train your child. For more useful parenting tips visit our website power-tools-for-power-kids.com
