1. I CAN’T SLEEP
A school kid brings a gun to school
Teenagers who can’t cope with life, dying too soon
A child goes missing and hasn’t been seen in weeks
A baby tortured and left for dead on the streets
And I can’t sleep
Another young black man dying after being shot
This time not by another black man, but by a white cop
A five year old on the playground, is shot in the head
A innocent girl is killed over some she said he said
And I can’t sleep
Chorus
I lay here wondering about what’s going on
I am waiting for a change, but it’s taking to long
Don’t want to turn on the T,V, don’t want to pick up the phone
I toss and turn worrying about loved ones every day
So throughout the night, I pray
A woman and her children trying to escape abuse are found dead
Another person strung out on drugs, who heard voices in their head
Thousands of people being blown up in so many different ways
Gang members killing one another on any given day
And I can’t sleep
And yet another old person is beaten and robbed
And yet another cop is shot while on the job
I am tired, confused and every night I shed a tear
Over a inhumane world, that I have now come to fear
Sleep will not come, for several more years
Chorus
I lay here wondering about what’s going on
I am waiting for a change, but it’s taking to long
Don’t want to turn on the TV, don’t want to pick up the phone
I toss and turn worrying about loved ones every day
So throughout the night, I pray.
