Dawn Marshall has been a senior associate of the firm, Rubinton & Associates, since
2013 and practices insurance defense litigation, concentrating on property damage
cases as well as the firms employment and third party claims. She also handles
sinkhole litigation and Chinese drywall cases.
Born in Rochester, Indiana, Dawn received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with a
minor in business administration , at Indiana University. As an undergraduate, she
studied for two consecutive summers at Iberoamericana University in Mexico City.
Beginning her career in banking and retail management, Dawn decided to study law
and attended law school as a night student at the University of Miami School of Law,
while working at Southeast Bank during the days. She earned her Juris Doctor in
1986.
A skilled litigator and trial attorney practicing for more than 25 years, Dawn has
gained experience in a variety of practice areas. She began her legal career at a firm in
North Miami, litigating foreclosures and attending bankruptcy court. At Blackwell &
Walker, P.A. in Miami, where she remained for six years, she expanded her reach to
products liability—more specifically, asbestos defense litigation and defective roof
class-action suits. She also practiced commercial litigation there, focusing on both
residential and commercial foreclosures, as well as bankruptcy cases, and performed
client marketing, which included conducting client seminars. Dawn spent another six
years practicing at the Miami firm of Keith Mack LLP, where she practiced mainly
commercial litigation for business owners, condominium associations, and
institutional clients, before establishing her own firm in commercial litigation, family
law, community association law, and general corporate matters.
Relocating to Georgia in 2004, Dawn closed her Florida firm and joined Hawkins &
Parnell, LLC in Atlanta, where she enmeshed herself in all aspects of asbestos
defense litigation, including training and supervising paralegals and staff for trial
preparation, conducting factual investigations, and interacting with medical teams.
Returning to Florida in 2006, Dawn settled in the Fort Lauderdale area, practicing
insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation. After Hurricane Wilma, she
2. analyzed, filed, and litigated these claims, and added to her experience defamation
and Ponzi scheme cases, plus a jury trial in a medical malpractice case. In West Palm
Beach at Billing Cochran Lyles Mauro & Ramsey, P.A., she focused on litigating
medical malpractice and premises liability cases before joining Rubinton &
Associates in March 2013.
Dawn also spent almost twelve years of her legal career as an adjunct instructor in the
paralegal program at Florida International University, as well as one year during this
time teaching paralegal courses at Florida Career College. Additionally, she
conducted several seminars at FIU, including one on toxic torts. Dawn also taught
remedial English-writing for more than five years as an adjunct professor at Miami-
Dade Community College, again while practicing law, and served on the Board of
Directors of the Lawyer’s Credit Union for two years. Her publications include the
1991 edition of “The Court Handbook for Dade County Lawyers,” the 2000 and 2002
editions of “Basics of Legal Assisting in Florida,” and articles for civil ligation and
foreclosure seminars. She is proficient in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese.
