Beware ofGlobal Warming.
Global warming is the gradual rise in the Earth's atmospheric temperature due to
the emission of greenhouse gases such as Carbon(iv) oxide, Methane, and Water
Vapor, just to mention but a few. Global warming is caused when these gases
absorb the heat energy emitted from the earth and re-emit stronger heat energy
with higher photons thereby causing the Earth's temperature to rise. Global
warming has becomea creeping menace that trouble and baffle scientist and the
world as a whole. It has become a serious problem that threatens the life of human
beings. My dear readers, are we going to sit and watch this malady ruin our
lives? The good news is that scientists have been able to identify the cause of this
malignant problem, but the mystery which is yet to be unlocked is that we have
slept over this issue and allowed our fate for nature to decide.
How will you feel when you wake up in the morning, and you see that every
human being including your dear ones are dead. Then you ask yourself this
question: "Why am I not dead." Then something pops up to your mind that when
you went for a medical checkup, the doctortold you that your bodycan adapt to
extremely harsh weather conditions. Devastated, you may be, but the truth must be
told that the cause of the death of your loved ones is because of global warming.
2. Oh, you might say to yourself: "Had I known, I would have taken an action to stop
this blistering challenge." Friends, must we wait until everyone is dead before you
can rise to take action? Well, there is still time left so please let us:" Make haste
while the sun shines." Global warming if not taken care of, I will not say can but
must result to the apocalypseof humanity. Can't you see that this earth is melting
with fervent heat and instead of taking total action, we are hear snoring and making
merry as we die slowly? Oh, where are the 175 countries that signed against this
catastrophic challenge? What is the action taken to stop this silent killer? Let us
awake from our slumber and rise against this hurdle before it is too late.
Furthermore, one might ask: “How can a small increase in the Earth's
temperature result to a serious calamity?" May I remind you that a drop in the pH
of the human blood from 0.2-0.3 can lead to seizure, coma or even death. In
essence, this illustration tries to instill a sensitivity of awareness that as a tiny drop
in the pH of the blood leads to catastrophic consequence, so it is in the earth's
temperature. Also, more temperature means more heat, and this gives room for
invasive species like weeds becausethe majority of them grow in tropical or sub-
tropical regions. I assume that you do not want to have more weeds than crops on
your farmland. Imagine the mortality rate that will occurif we humans begin to eat
more weeds than crops. Besides that, NASA scientists tell us that by 2020, the
earth's temperature will rise to about 0.8 degree Celsius. Now tell me how hot the
3. temperature of the Earth will be in the next decade or even in the next century if
we continue to sleep not act. Wake up from your slumber!
In the same vein, do you know that global warming is related to the depletion of
the ozone layer? The Chlorofluorocarbon gas which often destroythe Ozone layer
is a potent greenhouse gas. Scientists also predict that global warming has a severe
impact on the Antarctic Ozone hole. The chlorine gas located in the stratosphere
often react with tiny cloud particles that form icy temperatures. As this chlorine
gas absorb heat, it cools the temperature in the lower stratosphere. Near the south
pole of the stratosphere, this cooling results in an increase in polar stratospheric
clouds that releases the chlorine in reactive forms to deplete the Ozone layer. Now,
we all know that the Ozone layer is shielding us against the ultraviolet ray of the
4. sun. If this shield is destroyed, the Earth will be doomed because there will be an
outbreak of cancer to this world. Also, remember that the ultraviolet light waves
have a photonenergy that is greater than 300nm which means that these waves
have adequate energy to break our biological molecules apart. Who wants to be the
first to die?
Again, NASA scientists warn that the Earth should prepare to face more
catastrophic hurricane as a result of global warming. Based on their research, they
found out that hurricane becomes stronger and intense as the temperature of the
Earth gets warmer. Remember that pressureincreases as temperature increases.
Also, New York professor, Patrick Egan tells America to take action and not be
deceived by the warm winters that they encounter. Patrick Egan says: "America is
getting the good part and have not had to pay the price of the bad part through very
hot summer."
Scientists all over the world, I urge you to fight against this ugly challenge
before it fights against us. We can do this by:
Banning the use of petroleum in vehicles because these vehicles have an exhaust
pipe that emit Carbon (II) oxide which combines with oxygen in the atmosphere to
form Carbon (IV) oxide which is a greenhouse gas. Technology has now provided
5. us with electric vehicles that can now be used in place of vehicles that use petrol.
These graphs show the rapid increase in the level of Carbon (IV) Oxide.
In addition, afforestation should be encouraged, and deforestation should be
banned. Afforestation is the planting of trees. These trees help to reduce the carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere through photosynthesis.
6. Lastly, we should all resort to using Eco-friendly products. Eco-friendly
products are environmentally friendly products that preserve the environment
significantly either in their distribution, use or even disposal. Examples of Eco-
friendly products include water powered clocks, rechargeable batteries, reusable
containers, solar phone charger, solar lawn mower, Eco-friendly kettle, LED
Bulbs, solar candles, biodegradable pots, etc.
Our generation becomes progressively threatened if we do not act now. We may
not suffer this apocalyptic problem now but our future generation sure will if no
remedy is provided to these malady. Let us abide in the words of Gaylord Nelso,
which says: "The ultimate test of man'sconscience may be his willingnessto
sacrifice something today for the future generations whose words of thanksare not
heard.” Stay safe and act now. Beware of globalwarming.
