What to Wear
Show respect for yourself and for the job you are interviewing for.
 What you wear and how you present yourself on an interview will determine:
 Pay attention to the fit - should fit well and not be tight
 No rips, tears or holes
 Whether you seem qualified for the job
 If you are taken seriously
 Whether or not you will get hired
 Remember – you will be wearing this only to get the job, not everyday on the job
 The interviewer wants to see how you’d represent the company to customers

 Coordinated suit with skirt
or pants (church clothes);
or
 Skirt with dress shirt
 Dress pants with blouse
 Dress shoes – no high
heels; flats Ok
 Pantyhose (neutral or skin
tone)
Personal appearance
 Manicured nails/No acrylic nails
 Light perfume
 Natural make-up
 Shoes should be shined

Neat hair styles
 Gentlemen
 clean shaven
 Light aftershave/cologne
 Clean and trimmed nails
 Limited jewelry
 Shoes should be

Surviving The Job Interview
What is an interview?
 An interview is an opportunity for an
employer to examine, usually in a
question and answer exchange, the
qualifications of a job seeker in the
company.
 It’s an “opportunity” for the job seeker to
examine the company and the position to
see if they are appealing.
Meeting the Manager
Sample Questions
1. General Information Questions
 Why do you want this job?
 What are your strongest skills?
 What are your long term educational goals?
2. Behavioral and Character Questions
 How would deal with an angry customer?
 Can you describe an experience with an angry customer?
 Tell me about yourself?
3. Stress Questions
 Have you ever been fired?
 Why do you think you are the best candidate for the job?
 Why should the company hire you?
Interview Do’s
 Do remember to shake hands firmly.
 Do look interviewer in the eye.
 Do remember to bring questions to ask.
 Do send a thank you note after the
interview.
Interview Don’ts
 Don’t be late
 Don’t chew gum
 Don’t smoke before the interview
 Don’t be nervous
 Don’t forget to smile
 Don’t forget to thank your interviewer for
their time
Watch what you say!
 Watch your language
 No Slang…You are not talking to your friends, you
are talking to business people!
 Beware of nervous ticks…playing with hair,
fidgeting, etc.
 No “Um”, “Like”, “Yo”
Remember to ask questions
Be prepared with 1-3 questions to ask the
interviewer about the job.
The Close!!!
 Do you think I am the right person for the job?
 Are my skills and abilities what you are looking for?
 Do you have a position available for me now?
After the Interview
 Remember to follow up all interviews with a
thank you note or e-mail
 Follow up with a call after a predetermined time
 Go back to the store or company to find out you
status
