1. Math Tutor
Dave Ricker
with real business and education experience
Greater Hartford Area
As a patient and vigorous tutor, I am reliable and
competent. I am fully qualified and experienced, with
strengths in math, technology (computer, software and
internet), and maturity from workplace experience.
Diversity and breadth help with tutoring. I have a Masters
of Ed in Instructional Technology, a B.S. in Management
Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and 20
years of business seducation and management experience
(eg, General Electric). Additionally, I am a parent of an
autistic child and a child with ADHD, giving me
understanding of different learning styles.
Educationally, I have a current CT Certification in Math
(7-12), 12 years of classroom teaching experience in math,
science and software, and 6 years of tutoring experience,
including SAT preparation.
The core of my educational belief comes from being a
Socratic teacher, which has been true since my high-school
days. Always challenging students to develop their learning
skills, I use scaffolding, discovery lessons, differentiated
instruction, formative assessment, and open ended
questioning.

“Mr. Ricker worked with my son
to increase his D average in
Geometry to an A.” (parent)
“His (Mr. Ricker’s) patience with
the students and their various
abilities is uncanny. He knows
when to push the students with
mathematics and graphic arts and
when to understand their limits.”
(peer Coordinator)
“We are a few sessions in and my
daughter is very happy with the
help she is getting from Dave.
Getting started with Dave was a
breeze. He is very responsive and
accommodated our requests as to
place and time for the sessions. It
is clear that Dave is excited about
teaching and he is very good with
kids.” (parent)
“Mr. Ricker has a special gift for
connecting with students. I’ve
observed him over and over again
taking students who present as
unmotivated, or truly believe they
cannot learn a skill, and he turns
them around.” (Director, tutoring
center)
“I just spoke with ‘your tutoring
student’, and he was almost
speechless with excitement about
how happy he is to be working
with you. You have really
motivated him, and as you know,
that's most of the battle.”
