4. By the end of the school year, students should be able to... ANALYZE - Whether it is reading text or viewing a film, students should be able to dig past the surface of simply comprehending the plot. Instead, they will key in on sub-text by way of characterization and symbolism. VERBALIZE - It is essential that students are able to turn their thoughts into a dialogue with the rest of the class. Open and respectful discussion is essential in gaining an understanding of the material. In good literature, there are no easy answers! WRITE, WRITE, WRITE - Writing papers can be a daunting task for any student. This course should leave students with the strategies needed to put their ideas and arguments onto paper in a well thought out and scholarly fashion. Writing can be painful, but having written is joyous!

6. PODCAST PROJECT It is important that students are able to reflect on what they have been discovering about the material, the world, and themselves. For that reason, every two weeks students will record a podcast in which they will express their thoughts and opinions on the material covered in the past two weeks as well as the classroom discussion that accompanied it. Each podcast will be uploaded onto the class website and students will be assigned to listen and respond to three classmates' podcasts on rotating basis.
