1.
2. Darwin Horan, president of Ventana Capital, has
worked to expand his real estate development
company into one of the largest in Colorado over
the past 20 years. Also a supporter of the local
Special Olympics chapter, Darwin Horan dedicates
time and financial support to the organization’s
efforts to promote tolerance and inclusivity.
Since its inception in 1969, the Special Olympics
has strived to bring together individuals from
marginalized communities to accomplish big things.
3. This past August, Special Olympics Colorado
accomplished just that at the second annual Plane
Pull.
The SOCO Plane Pull took place at Denver
International Airport on August 9, 2014. Hundreds
of participants, volunteers, and spectators came
together to raise funds and support for more than
14,000 athletes throughout Colorado. Fifty teams
with up to 25 participants each raised a minimum of
$1,250 to compete in a massive tug-of-war, pulling
a 164,000-pound Boeing 757 over twelve feet in the
shortest amount of time.
4. Law enforcement teams from throughout the
region arrived en masse in support of the
event, and the Broomfield Police Department
led the pack as the highest fundraising team,
contributing $5,400 to the event.
