Northern Gas Networks –NEC 3 Framework Contract -£36 million - Option C for civils work and
Option E for Working Area Costs (Staff and zonal costs) - Mains & Service renewal programme up
to 630mm diameter including all diversionary work and network reinforcement.
Heading up the successful RFP bid submission from pre qualification through to successful award,
competing against other blue chip competitors, including Morrison’s, Balfour Beauty, Morgan Sindall and
Skanska. I was given the responsibility for being the Business lead for the estimating, bid writing and HSEQ
qualification submission. This involved a great amount of detailed scrutiny and the requirement for an
extensive efficiency schedule to meet with the clients budgetary constraints. We facilitated the clients wish
for them to take the contract back in house, via the implementation of a DSP/Sub-Contract model.
Building and developing the client relationship to successfully broaden the range of products and services
provided. Monitoring contract performance against budget and forecasts and advising operations and setting
realistic targets, ensuring contracts are delivered on target.
Delivering Profitability despite rigorous challenges and reduction of expenditure from blue chip clients and
stretched targets both internally and externally. Achieving Working Capitol targets and reporting of monthly work
in progress/debtors.Preparation and presentation of tenders, quotations and negotiation of target costs.
Control of working capitol and reduction far below the group expectations.
Extensive supply chain management and procurement events, drawing up contract agreements/contract terms
and conditions. Assessment of commercial risk and management of liability, including heavy involvement of
planning, programming and work load resource and delivery strategy. Agreement of and reporting of complex
Pain / Gain Calculations with the clients. Direct communication and advice on a Director level of Operations,
Commercial and Managing Director. Implementation of standard forms and governance control.

United Utilities - Downstream metering services business £75million. Various forms of
contract including JCT form of contract and bespoke landlord and tenant agreements. My
duties involved acquisition valuation work and due diligence and integration plan the
acquisition of the metering. My position was focused on a firm control of costs and
maximizing value of work done whilst managing the sub-contract accounts & keeping tight
control of work done ensuring prompt payment. I displayed an excellent working
relationship with all of the clients that I deal with and have impeccable knowledge of the
utilities and public services sector, along with very keen commercial awareness with
supervision of admin and commercial.
Southern Gas Networks – NEC 3 Option A & Option E Framework Contract £25 million -
Support of all Backfill and reinstatement activities. This involved the analysis of the
contract profit and loss, and implementation of a contract efficiency plan, as well as seeing
all of the day to day contract duties.
Ministry of Defence – NEC 3 Option A Framework Contract £80 million – This involved
bespoke pricing of the rehabilitation of key MOD Barracks around the country. Offering
solutions for the continuous supply of all utility services in a very unique environment.
Domestic Gas and Metering – £12 million per annum - Multiple clients with Bespoke
contracts for all types of Domestic, Commercial and industrial metering renewal and
installations. I was responsible for all of the Commercial responsibilities for all commercial
aspects of the contract for up to 8 major clients, including prestigious clients such as
British Gas, United Utilities, B&Q, and Pub-master.

ICE, NEC and Bespoke Framework and complex partnership contracts of an actual cost & target
cost nature.
Additional one off contracts for Northern Gas Networks.
Emergency Locate and Repair Maintenance Activities - £6million.
Diversionary & Civils work – Projects from £2k to £2 million.
Bespoke pricing of client and customer driven activities £1.0 million.
Third Party Reinstatement - £15 million – Supporting and driving efficiencies.
Enabling Works, ground radar and engineering for value £0.8 million.
Successful delivery of various contracts and assisting our client to be the most efficient GDSP out of the 8 regulated
area’s of OFGEM for 8 years in succession. Additional products and services were successfully priced by my team nd
awarded, such as backfill and reinstatement, ELR and fuel poverty work. I headed up the Commercial team of up to 10
staff on this contract as well as the other contracts I headed up in the period, delivering working capitol and
contribution levels far greater than group expectations. Heading up the Forensic Cost Audit from both NGN and
KPMG, I was the lead role, forging great relationships with the client and KPMG.

all working capitol, sub-contract appointment and payment of a bespoke ICE based engineering
contract in the North of England, covering Cumbria, Wearside and Teesside. Profit and Loss
reporting and the successful completion of 200km of mains renewal work.

savings and contract contribution as well building a very successful client relationship with
key stakeholders.
Barnsley MBC - £10million Grounds Maintenance and Crematorium works.
Chesterfield Borough Council £2.5 million – Grounds Maintenance and facilities
management.
South Tyneside Street Scene Services £ 25m– Grounds Maintenance, Facilities
management and memorials.
Middlebsorough Street Pride Services £8 million – JCT contract. Profit and Loss reports and
contract negotiation.
At this exciting stage of my career I was very busy traveling the country, actively involved in the integration of grounds
Local government related opportunities, given opportunity to diverse in to new area’s of the business and grow a
different understanding of local authority budget accountability and restraints. I learned much in this period, as well
as helping Enterprise to learn and develop our portfolio of contracts, giving Enterprise its first opportunity and
successful contract awards of 25 years with Liverpool and Sheffield Councils which escalated the company’s forward
order book by over 50%.

contract and the company’s first venture in to the cable jointing (fibre optic) and domestic
and commercial customer installations.
NTL – Leeds to Chesterfield 6way Trunk Route for NTL and Torch Telecom £ 20 million.
This included the cabling works, additional chambers building for 3

parties - £4m.
Transco Connections – East Anglia, East Midlands and North West regions - £55million pa.
During this time I developed into the role of the normal QS duties reporting directly to the board of directors and
company owners along with other duties such as successful claims settlements based on loss of production and
associated works due to engineering difficulties. I also set up many measurement systems and material checks on
computerised forms, which were adopted by DCE and implemented on other contracts.
For Transco Connections I worked in a central role in the company head office I supported the Senior Management
team to collate customer driven work, to show actual costs to the client, ensuring value was correct and that all cash
was collected accurately. This involved much client interaction

Initially appointed at the company’s newly awarded flag ship contract in Hertfordshire as a Quantity Surveyor I had
soon established myself as being competent to run my own contracts, and within 10 months of working In London I
soon transferred around the country, mobilizing new contracts with similar clients on the boom of the cable TV
industry. Initially this was a QS position which comprised coordinating & collating weekly profit and loss, sub-
contractors payments, work valuations, payments and work in progress reports from all surveyors & contracts
operated by DCE.

During this time I worked on various contracts as trainee QS reporting to the many contract Quantity surveyors. In this
time my line manager and Chief QS placed me on many contracts to enable me to build a portfolio of work streams
and work colleagues alike. At this time the contracts used were all based on a fixed price schedule of rates based on
the ICE, JCT 80 and FCEC schedule of rates. I had exposure to building and renovation works and traditional Bills of
Quantities for specific projects, some of those being person ones of Martyn Burke, the Owner and operator of the
company. This was a very inspiring and energetic start to my career.
