Elective Courses - 4 Chosen
The Rawls College of Business curriculum consists of two parts: a lower division and an upper division. The lower division is completed during
the freshman and sophomore years. All students wishing to major in business are classified as pre-business majors (COBA) until completion of
the lower division courses. After attaining the minimum requirements of the lower division students may apply for a specific major. Admission to
the lower division COBA designation does not assure admission to any upper division major in the Rawls College of Business. Effective October
1, 2013 admission into the Energy Commerce program will be limited. Acceptance into the program will be based competitively on a
minimum 3.25 GPA, application, writing sample, resume and interview.

ENCO 3301 Energy Industry Fundamentals. Prerequisite:
3.25 GPA, completion of lower division courses, concurrent en-
rollment in ENCO 3385 and department approval. History and
overview of the energy industry providing basics of oil and gas
exploration, production, electricity generation & transmission
and emerging alternative technologies. Fall only.
ENCO 4325 Global Energy Perspectives. Prerequisite: ENCO
3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C or permission of in-
structor. Explores the challenges and resources available to de-
veloped nations in meeting the energy demands of the twenty-
first century. Focuses on OECD countries primarily in Europe.
Study Abroad course. Summer only.
ENCO 3361 Natural Gas Transportation and Marketing. Pre-
requisite: ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. Mid-
stream issues relating to the right of way, gas gathering, pro-
cessing and compression. Marketing and transportation agree-
ments. Pipeline regulation. Fall only.
ENCO 4362 U.S. Energy Policy & Regulation. Prerequisite:
ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a minimum grade of C. Focuses
on the U.S. government policy and regulation and the impact on
the energy business. Covers federal, state and local issues.
ENCO 3376 Exploration and Production Techniques.
Prerequisite: ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C.
Exposes students to exploration and production techniques in the
energy industry and interfaces these areas with the land func-
tions. Spring only.
ENCO 4373 Energy in Developing Economies. Prerequisite:
ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 w/ a min. grade of C. Growth in global
energy demand will be centered in emerging nations. Course
focuses on availability and sustainability of energy resources to
meet projected need. Spring only.
ENCO 3385 Petroleum Land Management. Prerequisite: 3.25
GPA, completion of lower division courses, concurrent enroll-
ment in ENCO 3301 and department approval. Overview de-
signed to provide a foundation knowledge of negotiations, real
property & contract law and regulations of the oil & gas industry.
Fall only.
ENCO 4382 Energy Industry Internship. Prerequisite: ENCO
3301, ENCO 3385 & ENCO 4395 with a min. grade of C and Per-
mission of Instructor. Employment experience with an industry
partner. Not at Lubbock Campus. Summer Only. ENCO 3390 &
ENCO 4382 cannot both be used toward degree requirements.
ENCO 3386 Oil & Gas Agreements. Prerequisite: ENCO 3301,
ENCO 3385 & ENCO 4395 with a min. grade of C. Covers con-
tracts utilized in petroleum exploration and production, specifi-
cally: farmouts, joint operating agreements, gas balancing, sec-
ondary recovery, and federal exploratory units. May not be taken
concurrently with ENCO 4396.
ENCO 4390 World Energy Project. Prerequisite: ENCO 3301,
ENCO 3385 & ENCO 4373 with a min. grade of C or permission of
instructor. Industry sponsored project designed to provide basic
energy needs in the developing world. Students spend summer
session abroad. Service Learning course.
ENCO 3390 Land Titles and Records. Prerequisite: ENCO 3301
& ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. Practical skills training in
tracing and chaining property titles. Combines classroom, ab-
stract office and courthouse experience. First summer session
only. ENCO 3390 & ENCO 4382 cannot both be used toward de-
gree requirements.
ENCO 4395 Oil & Gas Law I. Prerequisite: ENCO 3301 & ENCO
3385 with a min. grade of C. Case law based study of jurispru-
dence affecting the oil & gas industry. Emphasis is on concurrent
ownership, split estates, and oil and gas leases. Spring only.
ENCO 3394 Power Generation & Transmission. Prerequisite:
ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. An overview of
the electric power industry from production to consumption.
Topics include generation and transmission project economics,
power markets, public policy and future developments.
ENCO 4396 Oil & Gas Law II. Prerequisite: ENCO 4395 with a
min. grade of C. Case law based study of jurisprudence affecting
the oil & gas industry. Emphasis is on regulation of the oil and
gas industry and selected current issues in energy law. May not
be taken concurrently with ENCO 3386.
ENCO 4312 Energy & Environmental Economics. Prerequisite:
ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. Focus on oil and
gas project economics and capital formation. Emphasis on pro-
ject cost, revenue forecasting, reserve analysis, and financial risk.
ENCO 4399 Senior Seminar in Energy Commerce. Prerequi-
site: ENCO 3301, 3385 & ENCO 4395 with a minimum grade of C,
concurrent enrollment in ENCO 3386 or 4396 and final year.
Capstone course synthesizing advanced concepts in finance, mer-
gers and acquisitions, and relevant negotiating and contract skills
with previous coursework.
ENCO 4315 International Energy Policy & Law. Prerequisite:
ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. Focuses on
practical contract negotiating, drafting and implementing skills
used in the international oil and gas industry. Fall only.

Topics include generation and transmission project economics, power markets, public policy and future developments. ENCO 4396 Oil & Gas Law II. Prerequisite: ENCO 4395 with a min. grade of C. Case law based study of jurisprudence affecting the oil & gas industry. Emphasis is on regulation of the oil and gas industry and selected current issues in energy law. May not be taken concurrently with ENCO 3386. ENCO 4312 Energy & Environmental Economics. Prerequisite: ENCO 3301 & ENCO 3385 with a min. grade of C. Focus on oil and gas project economics and capital formation. Emphasis on pro- ject cost, revenue forecasting, reserve analysis, and financial risk. ENCO 4399 Senior Seminar in Energy Commerce.
