District of Grand Rapids, MI by providing
comprehensive and authentic job development
opportunities for at-risk, Southtown youth so that
they may acquire marketable job readiness skills and
alleviate poverty

Bridges and Café Mosaic Training
models to instill purpose and
investment into Rising Grinds
operations
* Provide 8 youth annually with
employment readiness skills
measured by their completion of the
RG Training Calendars
*Train 2 RG grads annually for
managerial roles which would be
measured by their training log
* Implement system of incentives
for 8 youth annually
as RG Calendar
*Set up youth engagement
mechanisms for 8 youth annually
as measured by the orientation
Sign-In
*80% of youth will complete two
special training session with
industry professionals
*80% of youth will gain
certifications to demonstrate
proficiency in at least one skill area,
including Safe-Serve food safety
training, which will be measured
based on certifications gained
through these training programs.
*80% of youth will complete all
tiers of “Steps to Greatness”
training procedure which will
result in skills or materials that
can be used to gain employment
*75% of youth will retain
their employment with
Rising Grinds Café for 9
months or more
*75% of at-risk youth who
remain employed with the
Rising Grinds Café for 9
months will fully develop
marketable job readiness
skills measured through
their completion or
attainment of certification,
trainings, and customer
satisfaction
*80% of youth who
complete employment for 9
initial months will
demonstrate increased
economic stability/mobility
by obtaining employment or
enrolling in further
education (within 24 months
of employment)
Obj #2: Implement a business
model that personifies
professionalism while productively
empowering youth in the Southtown
District
*Engage 8 key partner agencies as
measured by their Signed MOUs
*Conduct referral, hiring, orientation
for 8 youth annually as measured
by RG records
* Set up engagement mechanisms
for 500 customers annually as
measured through a marketing plan
*Facilitate employment for 8
Southtown district youth annually
*Youth who remain employed for
6 months or more will see a 50%
increase in guest satisfaction
answers from the time they began
their employment
Obj #3: Engage youth in services to
enhance their youth
investment/follow-through in
business operations and integrate
an engagement infrastructure that
limits barriers to participation
*8 youth annually linked with youth
development & TOP services as
measured by the results of the
GVSU Pre/Post Test
* Implement environmental control
mechanisms for 8 youth annually
*Asses culture of operation
Link 8 youth to Resource
Bank/partners for supportive
services in the first 6 months
*75% of youth will successfully
complete at least 80% of the 25
TOP curriculum classes

  • 11. OUR BIG CONCEPT The Rising Grinds Café will enhance the Southtown District of Grand Rapids, MI by providing comprehensive and authentic job development opportunities for at-risk, Southtown youth so that they may acquire marketable job readiness skills and alleviate poverty

Inputs (resources needed to produce the project Main Objectives (Core Activities that will address the needs) Outputs (the activities will produce this service volume) Short-Term Outcomes (the activities will lead to these intermediary changes) Medium – Term Outcomes (the activities will lead to these intermediary changes) Long-Term Outcomes (the activities will lead to these end changes/impact) Data * Youth unemployment * Southtown District Funding: * Leveraged fed/state/local grants Staff: * Program Director * Program Coordinator * two Program Assistants * Case Managers * Data Manager * Engagement & Retention Specialist Bethany Prgms: * Youth Services Dept. * Bethany Resource Bank *YouthBuild Collaborating Partners: * GVSU (Local Eval.) * Building Bridges Professional Services * Café Mosaic * Greenline Café * Madison Square Church * Madison Place Obj #1: Implement the Building Bridges and Café Mosaic Training models to instill purpose and investment into Rising Grinds operations * Provide 8 youth annually with employment readiness skills measured by their completion of the RG Training Calendars *Train 2 RG grads annually for managerial roles which would be measured by their training log * Implement system of incentives for 8 youth annually as RG Calendar *Set up youth engagement mechanisms for 8 youth annually as measured by the orientation Sign-In *80% of youth will complete two special training session with industry professionals *80% of youth will gain certifications to demonstrate proficiency in at least one skill area, including Safe-Serve food safety training, which will be measured based on certifications gained through these training programs. *80% of youth will complete all tiers of “Steps to Greatness” training procedure which will result in skills or materials that can be used to gain employment *75% of youth will retain their employment with Rising Grinds Café for 9 months or more *75% of at-risk youth who remain employed with the Rising Grinds Café for 9 months will fully develop marketable job readiness skills measured through their completion or attainment of certification, trainings, and customer satisfaction *80% of youth who complete employment for 9 initial months will demonstrate increased economic stability/mobility by obtaining employment or enrolling in further education (within 24 months of employment) Obj #2: Implement a business model that personifies professionalism while productively empowering youth in the Southtown District *Engage 8 key partner agencies as measured by their Signed MOUs *Conduct referral, hiring, orientation for 8 youth annually as measured by RG records * Set up engagement mechanisms for 500 customers annually as measured through a marketing plan *Facilitate employment for 8 Southtown district youth annually *Youth who remain employed for 6 months or more will see a 50% increase in guest satisfaction answers from the time they began their employment Obj #3: Engage youth in services to enhance their youth investment/follow-through in business operations and integrate an engagement infrastructure that limits barriers to participation *8 youth annually linked with youth development & TOP services as measured by the results of the GVSU Pre/Post Test * Implement environmental control mechanisms for 8 youth annually *Asses culture of operation Link 8 youth to Resource Bank/partners for supportive services in the first 6 months *75% of youth will successfully complete at least 80% of the 25 TOP curriculum classes *80% of enrolled youth will report feeling comfort, safety, and acceptance within the business operations venue

Youth Rising Grinds will specifically focus on creating oppurtunities for employment & resource sharing with young adults in the Southtown Distrct – specifically foster care youth who are aging out Business Model Rising Grinds will replicate the models of Café Mosaic & Building Bridges Professional Service in operating as a social enterprise
