1. The Physical Activity Guidelines for
Americans recommend that adults:
Aim for 2 hours and 30 minutes
of moderate aerobic activity each week.
Moderate activity includes things like
walking fast, dancing, swimming and
raking leaves.
Do muscle-strengthening
activities such as lifting weights or using
exercise bands at least 2 days a week.
Physical activity is for everyone. No
matter what shape you are in you can
find activities that work for you.
Together, we can rise to the challenge
and get more active during the month of
May!

Regular physical activity is
beneficial for everyone’s health.
People of all ages can find ways to be
physically active. National physical
fitness and sports month is a great time
to spread the word about these
benefits:
For children & adolescents:
Physical fitness improves muscular
fitness and bone and heart health.
For adults: Physical activity
may lower risk of heart disease, type 2
diabetes and some types of
cancer.
For older adults: Physical
activity can lower the risk of falls and
improve cognitive functioning such as
learning and judgment skills.
Encourage one another to
become physically active on a regular
basis to increase the chances of living
a longer, healthier life.

Jaimie is a proud supporter
of our new recycling program
at Brigade! There were many
times the topic of starting a
recycling program came up
but Jaimie was the one to say,
“Why aren’t we?” Her
enthusiasm for the program
got the ball rolling.
Jaimie is also in charge of
keeping track of our
academic program called
Power Hour. She believes it is
important to encourage our
club members to finish
homework before
participating in
extracurricular activities.
Jaimie joined the team in
June 2014 and she is a
wonderful addition!

EARTH DAY Activities at
Brigade Boys & Girls Club
Also in honor of Earth Day...
Brigade Club members teamed up with U.S. Cellular associates to beautify our
Club. Mulch was spread, flowers were planted, gardening tips were shared and
Earth Day was adequately celebrated at Brigade.
Brigade Boys & Girls Club is proud and
excited to announce our new recycling
program! In honor of Earth Day, a day we
should celebrate every day, Brigade
purchased 3 recycling bins labeled
paper, plastic and cans. The new bins
will be located in the dining area in the
Youth Center. Every bit of recycling
makes a difference. Jump on the
recycling bandwagon and keep our
precious Earth beautiful and clean!
