What Is The Power Of Habit Essay
We are creatures of habit. Whether they are good or bad, habits shape our actions and help us get through our days. As Charles Duhigg describes in
his book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, habits "emerge because the brain is constantly looking for ways to save
effort." They are routines that automate parts of our behavior. Habits can be so firmly ingrained into our neural networks that we aren't actually
conscious of them, and we don't need to put much thought to follow through them.
Duhigg explains how habits work through a "loop": there is a cue, which triggers a habit. Then there is a routine, which is the automatic behavior.
Lastly, there is a reward which will determine your desire to keep the habit. This...show more content...
The biggest tip Duhigg offers in his book is that in order to break a habit and establish new ones, you must analyze your habit loop. Think about the
routine that you want to change, identify your cues, try to figure out what cravings are driving your routine, and make a plan for yourself to change
that routine. After reading this book, I tried to think about my habit loop. The routine I wanted to change was going on Netflix to procrastinate. I
noticed the cue to this routine was coming home after a long day at school, because I would immediately go on Netflix as soon as I arrived home.
I then realized I did this, not because I was too lazy to do my homework, but because I was craving for an outlet to destress after a long day at
school. So now, I try to think of different ways to destress that do not affect my sleep or productivity. I can take a shower, I can exercise, maybe I
can talk to a good friend before starting my homework. Sometimes does not work and I still find myself going back to binge watching shows on
Netflix to procrastinate, but now that I know what drives this habit and what I can do to help myself, I can say that I am making progress in breaking

Bad Habits Research
Something I learned from "Bad Habits And Your World" is that if you have a bad habit there will always be an opportunity to turn it into a good
habit. Often, people do not realize what they do can potentially be a bad habit or is currently a bad habit for them, people can do a habit more than
once on a daily basis and will not be aware to what it is they are doing. You have to be able to admit that you have a problem before you can move on
from there to the next step to where you can fix the lousy habit but only if you are committed to it. Once you start learning new routines or patterns
instead of your old bad habits, it will then become effortless to not think about smoking, biting your nails, having a bad diet, or any of those choices,
because your habit learning system...show more content...
The repercussions can be deadly not only to you, but to the people that surround you. It could be a simple fix like biting your nails or staying on
your phone during class when you know there is a test you have to study for the next day. In essence, it discusses how to turn a bad habit into a
helpful one and steps on how to do those things in case you do not know or if you were wanting to know them.
I will apply this knowledge of this article I read by turning my bad habit of doing my homework pages, projects and college essays on the last day
or the day of, into doing it way before the paper or project is due. I started off by admitting I wait until the very last moment to do something and
sometimes realize it is too late to do or it does not look like a passing grade to my teachers or professors. The second step I did was actually
committed to sticking to turning my bad habit into a good habit of typing this paper up as soon as I had a day off from work and not at 10 at night or
11 at night, staying up until the morning or until the sun came up. Once I read this I knew a sudden change to my lifestyle had to be applied or

Writing And Building On Getting Good Habits
Students that are in the beginning of trying to learn how to study, and building on getting good habits; need to develop this skill at a young age, and
usually is picked up on their own. The first technique that I will be using is summarization which is how to generalize the main points of the texts and
how to weed out the unimportant material. The second technique that I want to use is highlighting. Highlighting is a common practice in studying and
can be a fairly easy but non– effective task. The last technique that I will use is practice testing which is studying the material and then giving
yourself a test whether its practice questions, flashcards, or many other choices. Students who write summaries are more likely to succeed in class.
Summaries can consist of single words, paragraphs, main points, and can be produced from memory into text. It had been proven that the quality of
summaries matters; if a summary does not include the main points or transpires the wrong material from the text, it will not help the studying
process. Better correlated summaries have been linked to help with studying and better overall performance on tests. My personal experiences with
this technique are that I summarize a lot of what I read and learn. I generally do not write down what I am studying most of the time. Summarizing
can be hard if you don't know what you're writing about nor have any previous knowledge to pick put the main points. It can be very difficult to have

Bad Habits Essay
Everyone has bad habits. Some people smoke, some binge eat and some might even engage in self–destructive behavior. These habits are often deeply
ingrained into one's personality, to the point of becoming the traits by which many define themselves. If you want to change the course of your life you
have to learn how to change these bad habits. Although it is an often long and difficult process the results will allow you to succeed where you may
have otherwise failed. The steps below can help you learn how to identify, confront and eventually eliminate the habits that might control your life.
Changing Your Habits
Your bad habits are often part of who you are. You might make excuses for them, embrace them or even get a bit prickly when others bring them up. In
reality though, these are not just habits –– they are a failing. They might be holding you back from achieving success in business, your social life or
even love. Embracing your bad habits means simply learning how to live with what is going wrong, but eliminating them means that you are willing
to make a positive change in your own life. There is nothing that says that this is easy, of course, but you should be willing to try it. After all, getting
rid of your bad habits is one of the few ways that you can control your...show more content...
To truly break yourself of a bad habit you have to learn how to make an effective change in your life. If you fail to do so you might replace your
current bad habit with one that is just as bad. Or worse, you might even find yourself slipping back into old habits without giving yourself a chance
to change. Instead, you must consider breaking yourself of bad habits to be a journey that will allow you to understand not only what you are doing
wrong, but also to understand why you have made the choices that you have made. While this is not always a pleasant experience it can help you to
change your life for the

Bad Habits, By Ann M. Graybiel And Kyle S. Smith
The article "Good Habits, Bad Habits", written by Ann M. Graybiel and Kyle S. Smith, indulges in the idea that in every task we preform, our
mind use one of two ways. The first way is the mindless way. This approach is where we do tasks without thinking. We use this technique almost
everyday. For example, when a person takes the same route to his or her job everyday, they are using this process of thinking. The second technique
is considered the "deliberation circuit" by Graybiel and Smith. This procedure is the opposite of the first. It involves some sort of decision making to
take place, before an action can carried out.
The mindless technique is how habits are formed. To coherently understand this, we must first take an in depth look at...show more content...
In an experiment conducted by Wolfram Schultz and Ranulfo Romo, rats were given a two choices, and each choice was triggered by an
instructional tone. In the initial tests, the rats would be taught where to go after each tone; consequently, they would be rewarded if they went to the
right area after the corresponding tone went off. Eventually, the rats began to develop a habit of going to the area that the tone signaled, and
receiving their reward (Graybiel & Smith 41). A habit was created because of the treat they were given; this is an example of positive reinforcement.
In this case food was used as a positive reinforcement; however, there are a variety of options that can be considered a positive reinforcement. There
are certain guidelines these reinforcements must abide to, such as they must be something that is pleasurable rather than a basic necessity. If I was
going to use food, then it would have to be something like cookies, chips, or anything else appealing (Kazdin 159). In my case, positive reinforcements
would be put in action when I go beyond the three–hour limit when studying my notes. Negative reinforcement would be applied when I do less than
the required three hours, or I took less than five

Having a habit can either better or destroy one's life. Habits are considered to be things we preform continuously which is usually something that is
hard to give up. As humans, we all have good and bad habits, it is just the size of the matter that depicts how one deals with it. I have a bad tendency
to procrastinate. This leads to the struggles of putting effort and time into certain things that deserve it, trying to catch up on my work, and delaying
my already poor writing process even more. In order to overcome my bad habit, I need to put my own time and effort in planning out how much
time I need to spend on my assignments in order to get the best grade I can. Susan Wyche explained procrastination and how it has good and bad
sides. What I can add to the conversation of the writing process is that procrastination has no sides but bad. Although it gives me time to figure out
what I would like to say, I cannot think of a worse thing to do than procrastinate. During my process of writing essay one I attempted to squeeze 2–3
days of work into 1 night and it all backfired. From prewriting like crap to a sloppy performance actually writing, I knew I had a bad habit to break.
I must prepare and prewrite to have a better outcome for my essays rather than just produce words that sound good. Katelynn Rizzuto, a fellow
classmate, explains in blog 3 how she has a bad habit of procrastination she needs to break. She writes, "While writing essay one and creating a writing

Habits And Bad Habits
Everybody knows that good habits need to be cultivated while bad habits seem to grow like weeds. Habits like self–discipline, self–control, order, and
perseverance, are all habits that require a conscious effort to create and maintain. Procrastination on the other hand, is a behavior takes no effort at all.
For better or worse, it's your habits that make or break you.
The amount of self–help information available today is virtually unlimited, but it is of little value without first learning to direct your focus and
attention. The mind moves constantly from one idea to the next with amazing speed, rarely giving its sole attention to one subject for any length of
time. Yet success in anything depends largely on the ability to direct your mind; not only where it goes, but also how long it stays there.
Success, like anything else, must be learned and practiced. A habit starts out as no more than a thought. When...show more content...
Routines are what form your habits. Examine what is working for you and what is not. Just as with a garden cultivating good habits will also take
time and attention. You need to nurture the flowers in your life and start pulling the weeds. If something is not working for you, get rid of it!
If you wish to be successful in anything you do, follow the clues.
Study the habits of successful people. It is the habits we create that make us who we are. One habit all successful people have in common is the ability
to focus their attention for extended periods of time.
How do you make focus a habit? Start small and work up.
Resist the impulse to jump from one unfinished project to another. Write out a priority list and pay particular attention to the order of that list. Do not
let petty distractions interfere with working through each task in the order you have established. When you overcome the temptation to let your focus
and efforts become scattered, you are creating the habit of finishing projects and seeing them through to the

My Writing Habits Essay
1. Over the years, my habits of mind have developed in my writing. My habit of openness stems from learning how to write well developed essays in
the beginning of high school. I was introduced to new perspectives on specific topics discussed in class and compared them with my peers. I
discovered new ways to take in and present information. I now come into my writing knowing that there are different perspectives on everything.
Another habit I've developed is engagement. Ever since elementary school I was taught to engage with my classmates. I shared ideas on what I've
learned by raising my hand and sharing with my peers. When others share their ideas I build and compare on my own. Curiosity is another habit I've
developed. I've naturally grown

The Power of Habit
First off, we are creatures. We are animals. We're very sophisticated and good–looking and all that, but let's never forget that we're made of flesh and
blood. In particular, our brains are incredibly complex evolved machines. Our brains govern basic processes such as breathing and food intake, and
also enable us to appreciate the finer points of John Cleese's performances in Fawlty Towers.
As creatures, we have needs. We need to eat, and so we eat. As rather intelligent and social creatures, we like to chat with one another, and so we do.
We take turns and finish our conversations gracefully. And there are dozens and dozens more behaviors that are just as complicated, if not more so.
How on Earth do we get all of this done?
That's where...show more content...
No writer feels like he is writing enough. We all watch too much television, spend too much time on Facebook, or waste our writing time doing other
things. For beginning writers, the problem is especially acute. With no editor giving a deadline, no fans clamoring for the next installment, and no
writing income, there is literally no incentive to write–at least not consistently. Beginners might write when they are "inspired," but with so many other
things pulling them away from the writing desk, how can they stick with it for the months and years it takes to carve out a writing career?
On the other hand, most professional writers write every day. Not because they are inspired more often, not because they have more free time, and
not because they are neglecting other parts of their lives. Pros write every day for one simple yet powerful reason. They've made it a habit.
We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good (walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a
weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things–a cue, a routine, and a
reward–and don't take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like drive a car without constant
self–monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to press the

THE HIDDEN AGENCY OF HABITS
Before we dive into the nitty–gritty of "small habits" and how they can make your goals easier to achieve, it's important to understand the presence and
sheer power of habits in our every–day lives.
Many of the things we do on a daily basis–stopping for coffee before work, reading the newspaper, taking a shower, exercising, watching TV, having a
snack–are habits that have been so programmed in our neurological pathways that we don't even know they exist. We move through our day like a
plane on autopilot, automatically responding to the happenings of daily life based on the habits we've learned over time.
There's a short anecdote from American author David Foster Wallacethat illustrates this idea rather nicely. During his commencement speech at
Kenyon College, the late Wallace said:...show more content...
The water is so much a part of their every–day reality that it goes unnoticed–or, as Wallace mentioned later in his speech, is "hidden in plain sight all
around."
Human habits can be explained in much the same way. Although typically unseen and unnoticed by us, our habits are powerful enough to impact our
decision–making and drive our daily activities. In fact, Duke University researchers found that over 40% "of our actions are unconscious habits." It is
this idea that validates the saying "old habits die hard" and often makes new habits exceedingly difficult to establish.
So should you stop trying?
Absolutely

How to Be A Good Student Essay
How to Be A Good Student
To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life. Becoming a good student takes much work and
self–discipline. There are many ways that a student can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude,
intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.
Attitude is primarily a genuine desire to learn and the will to do hard academic work to achieve understanding. It is also shown by how well you
apply yourself even to subjects in which you have little interest and how much you can achieve even when a teacher's style is not what you are used to.

No one else can help you to attain a good attitude, you must decide and make it a goal to have a good attitude in your student life. (CS)
Intellectual skills is (S–V Agr) another important aspect of becoming a good student. This skill includes the ability to read and understand, intelligent
use of resources, mathematical and logical skills, efficient study habits, and the ability to communicate clearly and fluently. Intellectual skills include
time management, exam strategies, study strategies, and goal setting.
Consciousness, or awareness, is another helpful aspect of becoming a good student. The good student must be aware of their (agr) surroundings and
know what is going on in the world around them. We must strive to relate what is happening around us to what we are learning. This should be
important to us because we should care about what is going on politically, academically, socially, and spiritually. Being aware and paying attention is a
good trait to continually learn and apply.
Achievement is demonstrated by successful application of understanding. This aspect includes using correct and confident knowledge, effective
communication, and continuanceing of education through out your life. Achievement gives you a sense of accomplishment and meaning. To become a
good student, this must be a goal that you wish to accomplish.

Essay about How To Be A Good Employee
Being a good employee is essential in today's world, especially in these tough economic times when there are many seeking work. Consequently, it
is important to keep in mind that no employee is irreplaceable. While hearing many complain these days about his or her job, one just needs to look
around and be thankful that they have the means in which to survive and are able to work. There are many who are not only unemployed, but also
unable to perform due to illness or a disability. Sometimes when a person is feeling in a mood to complain, they may need to sit back, relax and take

Do not call in sick unless you are, or take for granted that you can call in a vacation day spontaneously. Vacations and personal time should be
scheduled. When you are out, your job is delegated to others, and having to take on unexpected responsibilities without being prepared can affect
production or productivity, as well cause stress and conflict among others.
Be that employee who, when someone asks you to do something, will feel confident that the job will be done, and done right, without a doubt.
Dependability goes a long way in the workforce, and having the reputation of being the employee that everyone can count on is a compliment.
*Be respectful
This means to respect others as you would want them to respect you. If you ask someone for help and they concur, do not steal the credit for their
work. On the other hand, if what they helped you with is unintentionally wrong, do not blame them or yell at them, as they were only trying to help you
out. Never cut someone else down in front of others, yell at them or point out their bad qualities.
Do not gossip, or fall in to the trap of one who does. Gossip can destroy a person and ruin their career, and is something that is easy to fall in to.
*Use time wisely

Habits are Powerful.
I have many different habits. Some good although some are not so good. A few habits are my schoolwork habits, relating to friends, deciding on

way or another. My habits are powerful, and have helped shaped my life into the way that it is today. Some habits are very powerful to where they
can take over your life completely. Fortunately for me, that's not my case. First off my schoolwork habits. My schoolwork habits are kind of good.
So far they've been pretty good, and working very well for me, because I'm a freshman in college. However as of now they have to change. The things
I've done in my previous years for my schoolwork just won't get me by anymore. College is a whole new ball game. I have never had or developed a

kid to go home and study for 2 hours straight. I couldn't understand how people read over school notes for 2 hours straight at home. I've felt school

The Importance Of Food Habits
Food habits is about what food we eat, how we eat and why we eat it, depending of several factors linked to establish patterns and different manners
across cultures. On the other hand, dietary behaviors are generally associated with dietary patterns related to selecting low–fat diets, which are not
always related to good eating habits. With this in mind, people who make any kind of low fat diet, should be aware in when their eating habits and
their dietary behavior are working in the same way to have a healthier nutrition and when not.
The way the how humans use food and how the food is selected, obtained and spread to who prepare it, define their Food Habits. People often are
flexible to live in many locations even when they have to adapted to other cultures with different food habits, which has caused a multiplicity of
food habits in diverse groups of people, whether of different or equal cultures, religions or countries their belong. (Sentence too long.) For example,
the Mediterranean diet is abundant in vegetables, chickpeas, lentils and legumes, as well as fresh herbs. Traditional dishes use lean meats such as
fish and chicken, over heavier red meats which can be higher in saturated fat. People in France also rarely eat fast food and highly processed foods
from supermarkets, which are often high in calories and low in nutrition. Traditional Japanese food, such as sushi, is low in saturated fats, high in fiber
and packed with vitamins, minerals and omega–3s from the fresh fish. The nutritious staple of rice is filling, while tofu and seaweed are full of protein.
Seaweed is also rich in zinc, antioxidants and vitamins A and C.

Developing Good Work Habits
During the early school years, students must begin to develop good work habits including preparing for schoolwork, organizing time and effort, and
developing effective study skills. As students continue into middle school and high school their success depends, to a large degree, on refining and
sustaining these work habits. Time management, organizational skills, and efficient study skills become especially important by this stage. Students
who are able to develop and maintain good work habits are in a position to succeed – to learn what needs to be learned, and to become confident

The ability to manage one's effort is closely linked to academic productivity and success.
A strong capacity for work enables students to delay gratification and to persevere through tasks that take considerable energy. It also helps them sustain
their effort when information is worthy of attention, even though not immediately exciting, such as when studying a chapter they will be tested on the
next day, or reading the instructions for a science experiment.
Developing good organizational behaviors can play a key role in efficient school performance. School is much easier for students who know how to
organize themselves, their materials, and their work space. Having effective organizational tactics will continue to be a valuable asset throughout a
student's education and career.
Being ready to learn often means being prepared for the next activity, having to shift gears from one task to another, and having all the necessary
materials on hand. In order to develop this aspect of learning readiness, students must engage their attentional abilities (especially that of previewing),
as well as their memory skills.
Through previewing, a student is able to look ahead and be prepared to deal with upcoming circumstances, challenges, and academic tasks. For
example, previewing helps students prepare for a test, get ready for an upcoming class, and smoothly transition from one activity to the next. In
addition, students who preview are able to determine which

What Is The Power Of Habit Essay

  • 1. What Is The Power Of Habit Essay We are creatures of habit. Whether they are good or bad, habits shape our actions and help us get through our days. As Charles Duhigg describes in his book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, habits "emerge because the brain is constantly looking for ways to save effort." They are routines that automate parts of our behavior. Habits can be so firmly ingrained into our neural networks that we aren't actually conscious of them, and we don't need to put much thought to follow through them. Think about the routine that you want to change, identify your cues, try to figure out what cravings are driving your routine, and make a plan for yourself to change that routine. After reading this book, I tried to think about my habit loop. The routine I wanted to change was going on Netflix to procrastinate. I noticed the cue to this routine was coming home after a long day at school, because I would immediately go on Netflix as soon as I arrived home. I then realized I did this, not because I was too lazy to do my homework, but because I was craving for an outlet to destress after a long day at school. So now, I try to think of different ways to destress that do not affect my sleep or productivity. I can take a shower, I can exercise, maybe I can talk to a good friend before starting my homework. Sometimes does not work and I still find myself going back to binge watching shows on Netflix to procrastinate, but now that I know what drives this habit and what I can do to help myself, I can say that I am making progress in breaking this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Bad Habits Research Something I learned from "Bad Habits And Your World" is that if you have a bad habit there will always be an opportunity to turn it into a good habit. Often, people do not realize what they do can potentially be a bad habit or is currently a bad habit for them, people can do a habit more than once on a daily basis and will not be aware to what it is they are doing. You have to be able to admit that you have a problem before you can move on from there to the next step to where you can fix the lousy habit but only if you are committed to it. Once you start learning new routines or patterns instead of your old bad habits, it will then become effortless to not think about smoking, biting your nails, having a bad diet, or any of those choices, because your habit learning system...show more content... The repercussions can be deadly not only to you, but to the people that surround you. It could be a simple fix like biting your nails or staying on your phone during class when you know there is a test you have to study for the next day. In essence, it discusses how to turn a bad habit into a helpful one and steps on how to do those things in case you do not know or if you were wanting to know them. I will apply this knowledge of this article I read by turning my bad habit of doing my homework pages, projects and college essays on the last day or the day of, into doing it way before the paper or project is due. I started off by admitting I wait until the very last moment to do something and sometimes realize it is too late to do or it does not look like a passing grade to my teachers or professors. The second step I did was actually committed to sticking to turning my bad habit into a good habit of typing this paper up as soon as I had a day off from work and not at 10 at night or 11 at night, staying up until the morning or until the sun came up. Once I read this I knew a sudden change to my lifestyle had to be applied or something had to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Writing And Building On Getting Good Habits Students that are in the beginning of trying to learn how to study, and building on getting good habits; need to develop this skill at a young age, and usually is picked up on their own. The first technique that I will be using is summarization which is how to generalize the main points of the texts and how to weed out the unimportant material. The second technique that I want to use is highlighting. Highlighting is a common practice in studying and can be a fairly easy but non– effective task. The last technique that I will use is practice testing which is studying the material and then giving yourself a test whether its practice questions, flashcards, or many other choices. Students who write summaries are more likely to succeed in class. Summaries can consist of single words, paragraphs, main points, and can be produced from memory into text. It had been proven that the quality of summaries matters; if a summary does not include the main points or transpires the wrong material from the text, it will not help the studying process. Better correlated summaries have been linked to help with studying and better overall performance on tests. My personal experiences with this technique are that I summarize a lot of what I read and learn. I generally do not write down what I am studying most of the time. Summarizing can be hard if you don't know what you're writing about nor have any previous knowledge to pick put the main points. It can be very difficult to have a good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Bad Habits Essay Everyone has bad habits. Some people smoke, some binge eat and some might even engage in self–destructive behavior. These habits are often deeply ingrained into one's personality, to the point of becoming the traits by which many define themselves. If you want to change the course of your life you have to learn how to change these bad habits. Although it is an often long and difficult process the results will allow you to succeed where you may have otherwise failed. The steps below can help you learn how to identify, confront and eventually eliminate the habits that might control your life. Changing Your Habits Your bad habits are often part of who you are. You might make excuses for them, embrace them or even get a bit prickly when others bring them up. In reality though, these are not just habits –– they are a failing. They might be holding you back from achieving success in business, your social life or even love. Embracing your bad habits means simply learning how to live with what is going wrong, but eliminating them means that you are willing to make a positive change in your own life. There is nothing that says that this is easy, of course, but you should be willing to try it. After all, getting rid of your bad habits is one of the few ways that you can control your...show more content... To truly break yourself of a bad habit you have to learn how to make an effective change in your life. If you fail to do so you might replace your current bad habit with one that is just as bad. Or worse, you might even find yourself slipping back into old habits without giving yourself a chance to change. Instead, you must consider breaking yourself of bad habits to be a journey that will allow you to understand not only what you are doing wrong, but also to understand why you have made the choices that you have made. While this is not always a pleasant experience it can help you to change your life for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Bad Habits, By Ann M. Graybiel And Kyle S. Smith The article "Good Habits, Bad Habits", written by Ann M. Graybiel and Kyle S. Smith, indulges in the idea that in every task we preform, our mind use one of two ways. The first way is the mindless way. This approach is where we do tasks without thinking. We use this technique almost everyday. For example, when a person takes the same route to his or her job everyday, they are using this process of thinking. The second technique is considered the "deliberation circuit" by Graybiel and Smith. This procedure is the opposite of the first. It involves some sort of decision making to take place, before an action can carried out. The mindless technique is how habits are formed. To coherently understand this, we must first take an in depth look at...show more content... In an experiment conducted by Wolfram Schultz and Ranulfo Romo, rats were given a two choices, and each choice was triggered by an instructional tone. In the initial tests, the rats would be taught where to go after each tone; consequently, they would be rewarded if they went to the right area after the corresponding tone went off. Eventually, the rats began to develop a habit of going to the area that the tone signaled, and receiving their reward (Graybiel & Smith 41). A habit was created because of the treat they were given; this is an example of positive reinforcement. In this case food was used as a positive reinforcement; however, there are a variety of options that can be considered a positive reinforcement. There are certain guidelines these reinforcements must abide to, such as they must be something that is pleasurable rather than a basic necessity. If I was going to use food, then it would have to be something like cookies, chips, or anything else appealing (Kazdin 159). In my case, positive reinforcements would be put in action when I go beyond the three–hour limit when studying my notes. Negative reinforcement would be applied when I do less than the required three hours, or I took less than five Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I advise the father's to reading more about the risk factor of smoking and the effect of smoking on second hand smokes .Also, I advise the mother to not change her opinion and help her husband to quit. The people should aware about the outside and inside home safety in order to keep their children alive. When I visited my family, I was taking some notes about their outside the home. They have a large yard and there are playground equipment and small garden. Also, they have two small stairs outside home. There is no swimming pool. The under surface of the playground is grass which is non–protective playground for children (Collier, 2013). This family has negative feedback about using baby walkers at the home. • 7. Having a habit can either better or destroy one's life. Habits are considered to be things we preform continuously which is usually something that is hard to give up. As humans, we all have good and bad habits, it is just the size of the matter that depicts how one deals with it. I have a bad tendency to procrastinate. This leads to the struggles of putting effort and time into certain things that deserve it, trying to catch up on my work, and delaying my already poor writing process even more. In order to overcome my bad habit, I need to put my own time and effort in planning out how much time I need to spend on my assignments in order to get the best grade I can. Susan Wyche explained procrastination and how it has good and bad sides. What I can add to the conversation of the writing process is that procrastination has no sides but bad. Although it gives me time to figure out what I would like to say, I cannot think of a worse thing to do than procrastinate. During my process of writing essay one I attempted to squeeze 2–3 days of work into 1 night and it all backfired. From prewriting like crap to a sloppy performance actually writing, I knew I had a bad habit to break. I must prepare and prewrite to have a better outcome for my essays rather than just produce words that sound good. Katelynn Rizzuto, a fellow classmate, explains in blog 3 how she has a bad habit of procrastination she needs to break. She writes, "While writing essay one and creating a writing log to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

But for a productive and successful life, we must need to consider it as an important phase of our life. Every good habit helps you to achieve your dream; it promotes positivity in your life. 15 Steps To change Habit Small Steps: Why we need to take small habit changes first because small habit changes motivate us, we can accomplish it easily in comparison with a big task. • 10. Habits And Bad Habits Everybody knows that good habits need to be cultivated while bad habits seem to grow like weeds. Habits like self–discipline, self–control, order, and perseverance, are all habits that require a conscious effort to create and maintain. Procrastination on the other hand, is a behavior takes no effort at all. For better or worse, it's your habits that make or break you. The amount of self–help information available today is virtually unlimited, but it is of little value without first learning to direct your focus and attention. The mind moves constantly from one idea to the next with amazing speed, rarely giving its sole attention to one subject for any length of time. Yet success in anything depends largely on the ability to direct your mind; not only where it goes, but also how long it stays there. Success, like anything else, must be learned and practiced. A habit starts out as no more than a thought. When...show more content... Routines are what form your habits. Examine what is working for you and what is not. Just as with a garden cultivating good habits will also take time and attention. You need to nurture the flowers in your life and start pulling the weeds. If something is not working for you, get rid of it! If you wish to be successful in anything you do, follow the clues. Study the habits of successful people. It is the habits we create that make us who we are. One habit all successful people have in common is the ability to focus their attention for extended periods of time. How do you make focus a habit? Start small and work up. Resist the impulse to jump from one unfinished project to another. Write out a priority list and pay particular attention to the order of that list. Do not let petty distractions interfere with working through each task in the order you have established. When you overcome the temptation to let your focus and efforts become scattered, you are creating the habit of finishing projects and seeing them through to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Writing Habits Essay 1. Over the years, my habits of mind have developed in my writing. My habit of openness stems from learning how to write well developed essays in the beginning of high school. I was introduced to new perspectives on specific topics discussed in class and compared them with my peers. I discovered new ways to take in and present information. I now come into my writing knowing that there are different perspectives on everything. Another habit I've developed is engagement. Ever since elementary school I was taught to engage with my classmates. I shared ideas on what I've learned by raising my hand and sharing with my peers. When others share their ideas I build and compare on my own. Curiosity is another habit I've developed. I've naturally grown Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Power of Habit First off, we are creatures. We are animals. We're very sophisticated and good–looking and all that, but let's never forget that we're made of flesh and blood. In particular, our brains are incredibly complex evolved machines. Our brains govern basic processes such as breathing and food intake, and also enable us to appreciate the finer points of John Cleese's performances in Fawlty Towers. We all watch too much television, spend too much time on Facebook, or waste our writing time doing other things. For beginning writers, the problem is especially acute. With no editor giving a deadline, no fans clamoring for the next installment, and no writing income, there is literally no incentive to write–at least not consistently. Beginners might write when they are "inspired," but with so many other things pulling them away from the writing desk, how can they stick with it for the months and years it takes to carve out a writing career? On the other hand, most professional writers write every day. Not because they are inspired more often, not because they have more free time, and not because they are neglecting other parts of their lives. Pros write every day for one simple yet powerful reason. They've made it a habit. We tend to think of habits as bad (smoking, cussing, biting your fingernails) but they can also be good (walking the dog, oatmeal for breakfast, a weekly date with your spouse). THE POWER OF HABIT shows how easily habits form. They rely on three simple things–a cue, a routine, and a reward–and don't take long to stick. Our brains love habits. They allow us to be efficient. They help us do things like drive a car without constant self–monitoring. Once we learn where the brake pedal is and how hard to press the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. THE HIDDEN AGENCY OF HABITS Before we dive into the nitty–gritty of "small habits" and how they can make your goals easier to achieve, it's important to understand the presence and sheer power of habits in our every–day lives. Many of the things we do on a daily basis–stopping for coffee before work, reading the newspaper, taking a shower, exercising, watching TV, having a snack–are habits that have been so programmed in our neurological pathways that we don't even know they exist. We move through our day like a plane on autopilot, automatically responding to the happenings of daily life based on the habits we've learned over time. There's a short anecdote from American author David Foster Wallacethat illustrates this idea rather nicely. During his commencement speech at Kenyon College, the late Wallace said:...show more content... The water is so much a part of their every–day reality that it goes unnoticed–or, as Wallace mentioned later in his speech, is "hidden in plain sight all around." Human habits can be explained in much the same way. Although typically unseen and unnoticed by us, our habits are powerful enough to impact our decision–making and drive our daily activities. In fact, Duke University researchers found that over 40% "of our actions are unconscious habits." It is this idea that validates the saying "old habits die hard" and often makes new habits exceedingly difficult to establish. So should you stop trying? • 14. How to Be A Good Student Essay How to Be A Good Student To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life. Becoming a good student takes much work and self–discipline. There are many ways that a student can stand out from the rest of the class.
