How to get a job in NL ???
In 2015 we have a lot of refugees comming to the Netherlands (NL).
Getting a permit to stay is the first thing that needs to be organized.
Besides that people need to get a job for a living. It feels much better to
pay taxes than living from collective allowances. Of course you can wait
until the permit is given.. OR .. You already prepare to find a job..
Personalberatung.NL helps you to be ready for work before you have
received the permit. This short manual explains step by step what needs
to be done to get ready for work in NL. Let’s get started.

Welcome – first registration
For first registration in the Netherlands refugees have to go to the COA,
Ter Apelervenen 5,9561 MC Ter Apel.
Please follow the instructions of the staff during
the Asylum procedure.

Get a place to sleep and eat
After the first registration in Ter Apel, the staff of
the COA will move you to another reception
centre in the Netherlands.
Reception centres offer asylum seekers basic
facilities such as a roof, cooking and washing
areas, and computers. You will receive a weekly
pocket money and healthcare insurance will be
arranged.

Get a device and free wifi
The Netherlands are very progressive in using the internet for all
purposes. There are free wifi zones available in cities, libraries, town
halls and hospitals. To organize your life you should be able to use the
internet.
The reception locations may have free wifi (WLAN) and computers are
available.
We would recommend you to get your own tablet or laptop.

Personal documents
For getting a job you need required documents:
• Personal ID – Passport
• Driver license if available
• Work permit
• Graduation doc
• Resumé
• Social Media account (at least LinkedIn)
• Dutch Social Secure Number (BSN)
• Dutch Bank Account
Sometimes, documents are lost during the travel: Try to remember where the
documents were saved in the internet or on company computers. You did work in your
home country, documents should have been saved somewhere. Try to get the
documents.
Please keep your documents available in the cloud, b.e. dropbox.

Permit to stay Asylum
The immigration and naturalisation services check if you are eligible for a permit to stay asylum.
You will be eligible if one of the 3 reasons are adopted:
• You have valid reasons to be afraid to get persecuted in your home country because of race,
religion, nationality, politic opinion.
• You have valid reasons to be exposed to danger in your home country.
• You are part of the family of someone who does have a permit to stay asylum and you have
traveld together to the Netherlands at the same time.
Your request will be refused if:
• You have been in another country before were you had the possibility to request for Asylum,
before you came to the Netherlands, OR you already have requested for asylum in another
country.
• You disturb the peace of the citizens of the Netherlands
• You delivered false information

Start up the permit procedure
• The forms will be filled together with IND please read the internet
page carefully and listen to the IND staff.
• Make a copy (photo) of all signed documents and letters and keep
these in the Cloud (b.e. dropbox)
• The IND communicates in writing in Dutch. Ask people arround you to
translate the letters for you.
• If all documents are completed and you are eligible it will not take a
long time until you get a permit.
• Most hick ups are because the ID’s are not available etc..

Write your curriculum vitae in a structured way. English is accepted.

Learn Dutch
Of course you will find your way in the Netherlands by communicating in
English. But we definitely recommend you to learn Dutch and please
learn more about the Dutch habit's.

Social Media
If you want to get a job in the Netherlands you absolutely need a good
LinkedIn page. Make sure that the information on your page matches
your resumeé. LinkedIn will be checked by employers and recruiters.
Change the language into English.
Add a nice picture of your smiling face.
Get recommended by people you worked with.
Get some tips & tricks!
Facebook will also be a good idea.. But LinkedIn is for business.

Get a BSN number
As soon as your request to stay in the Netherlands is approved you get a
card ‘Verblijfstitel’. You need to keep it with you for any identification.
In most cases you automatically get a letter with a BSN (social security
number). If not you can request it by calling phone number 1400.

Get a bank account
You need a BSN to start a bank account.
You can choose any bank you like. You can find information about how
to start a bank account here.
