Dear Ms. Green,
I am writing to recommend Christopher Eyre as a student who will become a valued graduate of your
program in due time. I have observed his academic progress over the last term, and have observed his
ability to provide excellent effort toward all of his duties, both in the academic arena as well as in
support of San Jose State as captain of the rugby squad. In my undergraduate days at UC Berkeley, I
balanced the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Naval ROTC and the rugby squad as well, so I am
well aware of the commitment needed to excel as well as he has. The ability to integrate multiple
disciplines successfully is a hallmark of a good industrial engineer, and his project submissions and other
assignments were evidence that he understands that conceptual requirement very well. I know in my
time that my prior experience working in environments as varied as a nuclear power plant, specialty gas
lab, and a medical device company that there are common outlooks that work well, such as the ability to
reason, assess, and identify good ideas wherever they come from. The differences can be harnessed as
well for the benefit of the whole team. Mr. Eyre possesses the necessary framework for making this
happen.
When it comes to clinical and medical devices, the essential concept is “compliance”, not only because it
is the right way to run a business, but it means that full compliance will give the operation its best
documented way of seeing how its product line evolved. That ability to trace the process will shorten
the time needed to solve problems when things go awry. In this case, the ability to stay focused and
compliant when problems turn up is something I see Christopher doing very well.
Christopher Eyre has my full support for this program.
Sincerely,
David M. Steele, MSISE, Lecturer
