Australia’s
oldest
VoIP
provider,
ATPNet’s
customers
move
to
fast
growing
FaktorTel.
Brisbane,
Australia,
15
January
2014:
FaktorTel,
One
of
Austraila’s
largest
privately
owned
VoIP
network
providers,
today
announced
that
it
has
acquired
the
subscriber
base
and
trademark
of
ATPNet
-‐
a
division
of
Australian
Technology
Partnerships
(ATP),
widely
regarded
as
Australia’s
longest
established
broadband
phone
provider.
The
acquisition
aims
to
expand
FaktorTel’s
customer
base
by
an
additional
5%,
and
is
the
first
step
of
a
long
term
plan
for
FaktorTel
to
grow
its
market
share
in
Australia
through
the
acquisition
of
a
number
of
VoIP
providers
whilst
also
continuing
to
drive
growth
and
performance
organically.
"This
important
and
strategic
acquisition
will
strengthen
FaktorTel's
position
as
one
of
Australia’s
leading
VoIP
providers,
enabling
us
to
accelerate
our
market
share."
said
Chris
Cowling,
Technical
Director
of
FaktorTel.
"For
ATPNet
customers,
what
this
means
is
that
they
now
have
access
to
a
wider
range
of
affordable
and
more
feature
rich
telephony
solutions
through
the
FaktorTel
network.”.
With
four
million
Australians
using
VoIP
services
on
their
home
computer,
laptop
or
tablet
according
to
the
SMH
[1], and many
SME
businesses
and
corporations
looking
to
reduce
call
rates
and
their
hefty
investment
into
communications
infrastructure,
FaktorTel
is
committed
to
playing
a
key
role
in
improving
costs
for
its
customers
through
an
increasing
economy
of
scale,
continued
investment
in
open
source
technology
and
cloud-‐based
infrastructure
for
greater
accessibility
and
flexibility.
"With
the
National
Broadband
Network
(NBN)
currently
being
rolled
out
across
Australia,
we
can
expect
the
quality
and
speed
of
internet
capacity
to
improve
significantly,
thereby
legitimising
VoIP
as
a
cost-‐effective
alternative
to
fixed
line
telecommunications”,
said
Chris
Cowling.
“Our
VoIP
technology
built
on
the
open
source
Asterisk
platform,
provides
a
scale
and
global
reach
that
will
enable
us
to
deliver
a
comprehensive
set
of
internet-‐based,
feature-‐rich
telephony
products
and
services
to
serve
the
communication
needs
of
residential,
business,
corporate
and
wholesale
customers
alike,
independent
of
the
internet
service
providers
they
choose.
By
coupling
this
with
our
acquisition
and
organic
growth
programs,
new
and
existing
customers
will
be
able
to
enjoy
more
reliable
and
higher
quality
VOIP
communications.”
FaktorTel
and
ATPNet
expect
to
complete
closing
activities
in
the
first
quarter
of
2014
and
do
not
expect
the
acquisition
to
have
any
significant
negative
impact
on
the
servicing
of
ATPNet
customers
during
the
transition
period
or
into
the
future.
