Emotional wellness does NOT simply mean you are happy all of the time. There is so much more to it.
It means you are able to identify your thoughts that cause the emotions you are feeling. And you are able to handle life’s stresses, adapt to change, and cope with difficult times.
We have control over our thoughts and behaviors so must use this information to create emotional wellness with ourselves.
2. What is emotional wellness?
Emotional wellness does NOT
simply mean you are
happy.
3. Emotional wellness means...
● You understand and feel your emotions.
● You accept the positive and negative and
allow them to be there.
● You do not indulge in your negative emotions
(self-pity, indulgence, etc.).
● You do not react to your negative emotions
or blame them on anyone or anything.
● You are able to separate emotions from
circumstances (others don’t determine how we feel).
● You are able to identify your thoughts that cause
the emotions you are feeling.
● And you are able to handle life’s stresses, adapt
to change, and cope with difficult times.
5. So what do we have
control over?
We have control
over our thoughts
and behaviors.
6. Understanding
our brains
Our brains were designed to seek
pleasure, preserve energy,
and avoid pain.
Now…
We need to do the exact opposite of
what our brains were originally
designed to do!
8. The world is not meant to
be happy and good all the time.
There is good and bad.
Positive and negative.
Comfort and discomfort.
Happy and sad.
And there is a balance to it all.
9. In fact, if you tried to be
happy all the time, that
means you are happy when
people die or bad things
happen.
It is not possible.
10. So, if you are going to be
sad and scared sometimes
any way, why not go out
and get the things you want
in life?
11. 3 steps to being “emotionally well”
Understand and feel your emotions.
Create emotion on purpose.
Identify your thoughts that cause the
emotions you are feeling.
12. Understand and feel your emotions.
Emotions won’t hurt you. Allow them to be there -
you do not have to fix them or cover them up.
13. Create emotion on purpose.
You know that you are going to go out into the day and
experience some kind of negative emotion.
By creating emotion on purpose means you understand that
you are the person who generates your emotions by what you think.
14. Identify your thoughts that cause the emotions you are feeling.
Your thoughts cause your feelings.
We do something because of how we think it will make us feel.
We don’t do something because we are afraid of how it will make us feel.
Your emotions drive why you do or don’t do anything.
15. This take time. But it
has the power to
change the way you
think, feel, and act!
