How to Import or Export Excel Files in QuickBooks?
OIL_OUTLINE
1. Oil Content Presentation
By Chris Trant
Objectives
• Target the highest quality beans by utilizing Q4-2013 data to
identify zip codes and vendors with above average oil content
• Establish a streamlined process to simply and effectively
produce accurate and informative data for any BNA facility
• Use Tableau and Excel to pull and synthesize large amounts of
data into actionable and timely information
Rationale
• Not all bushels are created equal, more cost effective to target
higher oil yielding beans
• Quality of the beans may be, in part, tied to more fertile
geographic regions or unique vendor methods
• Zip codes allow for easy comparisons while viewing multiple
vendors at once
• Zip codes provide pre-established boundaries
• Data can serve as a future reference and benchmark
Step 1: Accessing Tableau Data
1. Log in to Tableau and access the “OPD US QUALITY FACTORS”
workbook
a. Select “Numerical Grades Overview”
2. Set Delivery Date to “Previous Quarter” (October 1st
2013
through December 31st
2013 in this case)
3. Select plant
4. Uncheck all grade factors except Gross Delivered Bushels and
Wtd Avg Oil Content
a. Take note of the overall average oil quality and total
bushels delivered for future reference
5. Expand Material Column to show vendors

2. STEP 2: Exporting Data
1. Enter Oil Content Mapping tab, located next to the Numerical
Grades Overview
2. Click on the “Quality Details by Vendor” title towards the lower
center of your screen
a. Although unseen by the viewer, clicking on this title tells
Tableau of our intentions to access the data below it
3. Under Industry uncheck all except “Farmer” and “Producer”
a. This will exclude elevator/ dealer data

the arrow icon and click the “cross tab” command. This will
direct Tableau to download and export the chosen data below.
STEP 3: Data Sheet
1. Download and save data as an excel file immediately
a. If data is not saved as an excel doc- pivot tables cannot be
created
2. Delete or hide all unnecessary columns, leaving only a list of
vendors, their zip codes, and their respective bushel amounts
and oil percentiles
3. Some vendors will have multiple entries; do not worry about this
now
4. Rename columns (if desired)

LIMITATIONS
• Split Loads distort true vendor zip
• 2% of bushels were not tested for oil content
• Elevators draw from larger area, not exclusively from the
locational zip code
• Limited benchmarks exist to compare yields
• Weighted average of bushels not factored
