Trump VS China- Insults and Backlash & the Fight for World
Power
By Chloe Lloyd
The 2016 presidential primaries are well underway; latest election polls revealDonald Trump as the
Republican front-runner; this Wednesday the presidential hopeful vowed to seek better relations with
China- however, this revelation comes only weeks after outrageous,Trump remarks on U.S.- China
trade were made- which prompted the Chinese government to issue a scathing criticism.
Unfiltered and often offensive, Trump’s remarks could have an
extremely negative effect on U.S.-China relations- as from the
initial stages of his campaign trail Trump has repeatedly targeted
China.
It is reported that the presidential hopeful has even used a broken-
English accent at a campaign rally to mock the negotiating style of
Chinese businessmen.
In a major political speech,Trump mocked president Barack
Obama’s foreign policy, declaring that the Democratic president
has let China take advantage of the United States,
“China respects strength and by letting them take advantage of us economically we have lost all their
respect.”
For the most part, the Chinese government had acted nonchalant in regard to Trump's vigorous U.S.-
China trade taunts, reducing it as a mere "disturbance."
With a strong 45% backing from republican voters, the idea of a Trump presidency is ever so real;
with this possibility looming, the Chinese government released a withering critique on the U.S.
election process and the candidate who has "opened a Pandora's box in U.S. society."
In an editorial published by Chinese publication Global Times, they claim Trump was initially
supposed to "act as a clown to attract more voters for GOP." Instead, it goes on to imply that the
Republican party lost control of Trump – who has now become the party's worst nightmare.
The publication even went on to liken Trump to dictators such as Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler;
if this is any reflection of Chinese attitude towards a Trump presidency, you can assume that it is not
favourable.
U.S. politics has once again captured the attention of the
world - as this celebrity-businessman turned politician
has gained monumental support; to international on-
lookers it might seem absurd that voters from all across
the spectrum are supporting Trump- however,to
understand the rise of Trump you must consider U.S.’s
economic situation.
U.S. the reigning world power may lose its grasp to the
title, as China continues to rapidly expand economically-
evening surpassing the U.S. as the largest trading nation.

Income Inequality in America, 2/12/2013.
U.S and China Income inequalities are similarly high (which has been the case for a decade),they are
also becoming a serious political problem in both countries—hello Trump candidacy and cue patriotic
slogan, “Make America Great Again”.
Sarah Cook Haynes,Missouri local, now residing in Brisbane said,
“Well… he’s telling American’s what they want to hear.”
Joblessness, the foreclosure crisis, failing health care system, the growing gap between rich and poor-
are all contributing factors to the rise of Trump.
To some he is possibly a “Reaganesque” president, or to others “Hitler”- either way whoever wins the
upcoming election has a hard task ahead.
Despite Trump’s relentless attacks and steady political advance,Chinese premier Li Keqiang says
relations between the U.S. and China will continue to develop no matter who wins the presidential
race.
History has shown that a country or empire cannot maintain world power status forever; with the state
of the U.S. economy, the country’s various other issues and the impending election, it is quite possible
that China might surpass them and emerge as the new world power.
