THE IHRAM THAT IS WORN BY MEN, IS A COMPLETE WHITE GARMENT MADE UP OF
TWO PIECES OF TOWELING OR CLOTH; ONE PIECE COVERS THE BODY FROM WAIST
BELOW PAST THE KNEES, AND THE SECOND ONE IS THROWN OVER THE SHOULDER.
THIS CLOTHING WAS WORN BY BOTH
HAZRAT IBRAHEEM (AS) AND PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH). WOMEN CLOTHING
AS THEY USUALLY DO. MEN’S HEADS SHOULD BE UNCOVERED; BOTH WOMEN AND
MEN MAY USE AN UMBRELLA.
2. The ihram is a sign of purity and of the rejection of evil and everyday matters. It also
indicates and show the equality of all people near to ALLAH Almighty When the
pilgrim wears Ihram, his white apparel, he or she enters in a state of cleanliness and
purity that prohibits involving in dispute, committing violence to man or animal and
having. Once he puts on his hajj garments the pilgrim cannot cut his nails, shave, or
wear any jewellery, and he will keep his unsown piece of clothing on till he
completes the pilgrimage Hajj.
On the initial and the first day of the hajj, pilgrims sweep out of Makkah toward the
Mina, a small unpopulated village east of the city, the pilgrims usually spend their
time praying and meditating.

4. In the second day, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims leaves the Mina for the plain of
Arafaat where they rest. This is the central ritual of the hajj. They congregate there,
the pilgrims’ gathering and stance reminds them of the Qayamah or the Day of
Judgment. Several of them gather at the Mount of Mercy, where the Prophet (PBUH)
delivered his memorable Farewell Sermon, enunciating far-reaching spiritual,
economic, political and social reforms.
These are emotionally stimulating hours, which the pilgrims spend in Ibadah (worship)
and Dua (supplication). Many shed tears as they ask ALLAH Almighty to forgive them.
On this holy spot, they reach the height of their religious lives as they feel the
closeness and presence of a merciful ALLAH Almighty. Therefore, the hopeful pilgrims
get ready to leave this plain happily, feeling reborn without sin and intending to spin
over a new leaf.
5. Just after sundown, the mass of pilgrims continue to Muzdalifah, an open plain approx
halfway between Arafaat and Mina. There they pray first and then collect a fixed amount of
chickpea-sized pebbles to throw on shetan. Before dawn on the third day, pilgrims go masse
from Muzdalifah to Mina. There they cast at white pillars the stones or pebbles they have
previously collected, a practice linked with the Prophet Ibraheem (AS).
As pilgrims throw and hit seven pebbles at each of these pillars, they memorize the story of
Shatan’s attempt to persuade Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) to disregard command of ALLAH
Almighty to sacrifice his son. Throwing the pebbles are sign of humans’ attempt to cast away
shatan or evil and vice, not one time but seven times, here the number seven representation
of infinity.
