BACKGROUND
1. Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates generally to unmanned aerial vehicles and
drones, and more specifically, a distributed and coordinated drone network with modular
drone payloads.
2. Description of Related Art
[0002] Drones are well known in the art. In FIG. 1, a conventional drone system 101 is
shown. System 101 depicts a drone body 105 with one or more blade systems 103
which is supported by stand 107.
[0003] Although great strides have been made in the area of drone systems, many
shortcomings remain.

[0005] While the system and method of use of the present application is susceptible to
various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments thereof have been
shown by way of example in the drawings and are herein described in detail. It should
be understood, however, that the description herein of specific embodiments is not
intended to limit the invention to the particular embodiment disclosed, but on the
contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternatives falling
within the spirit and scope of the present application as defined by the appended claims.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0006] Illustrative embodiments of the system and method of use of the present
application are provided below. It will of course be appreciated that in the development
of any actual embodiment, numerous implementation-specific decisions will be made to
achieve the developer’s specific goals, such as compliance with system-related and
business-related constraints, which will vary from one implementation to another.
Moreover, it will be appreciated that such a development effort might be complex and
time-consuming, but would nevertheless be a routine undertaking for those of ordinary
skill in the art having the benefit of this disclosure.
[0007] The system and method of use in accordance with the present application
overcomes one or more of the above-discussed problems commonly associated with
drone systems. Specifically, the system of the present application provides a new and
useful modular drone system which lends itself to a plurality of different uses. These
and other unique features of the system and method of use are discussed below and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
[0008] The system and method of use will be understood, both as to its structure and
operation, from the accompanying drawings, taken in conjunction with the
accompanying description. Several embodiments of the system are presented herein. It
should be understood that various components, parts, and features of the different
embodiments may be combined together and/or interchanged with one another, all of
which are within the scope of the present application, even though not all variations and
particular embodiments are shown in the drawings. It should also be understood that

the mixing and matching of features, elements, and/or functions between various
embodiments is expressly contemplated herein so that one of ordinary skill in the art
would appreciate from this disclosure that the features, elements, and/or functions of
one embodiment may be incorporated into another embodiment as appropriate, unless
described otherwise.
[0009] The preferred embodiment herein described is not intended to be exhaustive or
to limit the invention to the precise form disclosed. It is chosen and described to explain
the principles of the invention and its application and practical use to enable others
skilled in the art to follow its teachings.
[0010] Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters identify
corresponding or similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 2 depicts a
modular drone system in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present
application. It will be appreciated that the modular drone system 201 overcomes one or
more of the above-listed problems commonly associated with conventional drone
systems.
[0011] In a preferred embodiment, system 201 includes a modular drone 203 and
payload 205. The modular drone 203 includes a plurality of rotor blade systems 207
which are supported by arms 209. Additionally, a plurality of landing leg members 211
are included which provide a means of support for the drone while not in use. The
modular drone 203 also includes a payload mounting plate 213 which provide a
versatile means of attachment for many different items. This is viewed as an advantage
of the system of the present application. As depicted in FIG. 2, a payload 205 is
attached to mounting plate 213 which can be transmitted to remote locations via aerial
flight. This is viewed as another advantage of the system of the present application.
[0012] Referring now to FIG. 3, an oblique view of system 301 is respectively shown in
accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present application. System 301 is
substantially similar in function to system 201 and it is contemplated interchanging the
features of the different types of the systems discussed herein.

[0013] In an alternative embodiment, system 301 includes a modular drone 303 which
transports a hazardous materials sensor 305. It is contemplated that a drone-mounted
camera (not shown) could be included in system 301 which could broadcast video
feedback of the drone mission to a remote location.
[0014] Referring now to FIG. 4, an oblique view of system 401 is respectively shown in
accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present application. System 401 is
substantially similar in function to system 201 and it is contemplated interchanging the
features of the different types of the systems discussed herein.
[0015] In an alternative embodiment, system 401 includes a modular drone 403 which
transports a transceiver and audio device 405 which transmits from a mobile phone (not
shown). The transceiver and audio device 405 is essentially consists of audio speakers
with an amp circuit and a mobile phone (not shown).

accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present application. System 501 is
substantially similar in function to system 201 and it is contemplated interchanging the
features of the different types of the systems discussed herein.
[0017] In an alternative embodiment, system 501 includes a modular drone 503 which
transports a sonar target system 505. In this exemplary embodiment, a speaker
broadcasts an audio signal which is picked up by the drone's microphone. The drone
then navigates to the speaker by sensing the intensity of the signal and sensing the
direction that the target is moving by measuring the Doppler Effect.
[0018] Referring now to FIG. 6, an oblique view of system 601 is respectively shown in
accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present application. System 601 is
substantially similar in function to system 201 and it is contemplated interchanging the
