INTRODUCTION
Auburn/Opelika Fire Department
• Trailer simulates harsh conditions faced in a burning building
 Limited Visibility
 Heat
• Used to practice crawl technique, oxygen conservation, and control of
physiological variables
MEASURE
• Key Metrics:
• Accessibility – measured by distance travelled to train
• Cost – measured by cost of mobile training trailers state fire
academies have purchased
• Data Collection:
• Contacted 240 fire departments throughout the twelve
southeastern states
• Surveyed training officers about their confined space crawling
training situation
• Key Takeaways:
• A majority of the departments contacted travel
greater than 50 miles to complete training
• State Fire Academies reported paying $250K+
for their mobile training solutions
