1. Personal Achievements/Contributions Statement
Being a very diverse and complete student requires interest in all aspects of life. I
believe I am a complete student having been part of different types of activities, both
technical and non-technical. I feel that helping the society around us and serving those who
are less able can really build a person’s character. I have been part of NGO’s in and around
my city and have taken part in activities such as cleaning our campus, visiting orphanages,
and teaching students in backward government schools. I have donated blood in blood
donation camps regularly and in hospitals when requirements have arisen.
During my first semester of my Master’s education, I have tried to be involved in as
many things as I could. I have participated in an annual “Telecom Policy Challenge” where I
worked with law students to come up with a definition for “Fixed Broadband Service” and
presented in front of a panel of judges. Taking part in a Hackathon on Security, we won 4th
place for developing an object tracker using Raspberry Pi, Linux and Python programming
knowledge. I’ve attended conferences about the “Digital Divide” and interacted with many
industrialists at such events.
During my Bachelor’s degree, I’ve attended symposiums regarding ‘Broadband
Technology in Rural India’ and worked on a paper using this knowledge. This paper was
related to ‘E-Learning for rural areas of India and its limitations’ for which I tried to give a
solution using a low cost tablet, ‘Aakash Tablet’. I worked on an application which can be
used to teach young and illiterate students the alphabets in their regional language as well as
other native languages through both sound and pictorial representations. These activities have
really helped me improve my character and gave me an insight into the joy of working with
kids. I have also been part of a technical club “The Electronics Club” in which I have taught
courses such as android development to my fellow undergraduates. I’ve been part of a team
“Career Ambassadors” wherein I’ve spent time mentoring undergraduate students about
careers choices once they get out of college. The main reason for my success in such teams is
my ability to be easily approachable. This has helped me improve my teaching and mentoring
skills and has given me an insight into the teaching profession as well.
I have done most of my schooling in USA and have been part of various clubs and
activities. Karate, Chess, Science, and Math clubs are just a few. I have taken part in my
science fair in 8th
and 7th
winning a gold medal and an honorary mention in respective years.
My project was based on type of clothing to wear when working near fire related industries
and which material of clothing is best used for safety purposes. This was inspired by the loss
of a family member due to such an accident.
Having lived and studied in various countries and cities, I feel happy to say that I’ve
been exposed to all types of religions and ethnic groups and have been able to learn many
new languages. English, Telugu, Hindi are all fluent languages which I can speak, read and
write while basics of Tamil, French, Spanish and Japanese are also known to me. With this I
have attained the capability to adapt to the living environment around me easily.
2. I have always performed well in teams and tend to be an initiator and also a
moderator. With these diverse characteristics, I feel that I can bring a lot to and learn just as
much from any organization I work with.
