“Mysterious animal. Cooperation in a group”
Scenario
Suggested time: 1.5 hour
Objective: knowing the group, developing teamwork skills, developing skills of presenting work by participating in a mock press conference
Participants: any age
Materials: annex with the activity titled “Mysterious animal" one for each group, (big) sheet of white or gray paper for a group, colour felt tips, crayons
Optimum group size: 15-20 participants
Remarks on conducting classes: one should pay attention to the individual group’s work dynamics, precisely specify the task’s execution time. During the press conference, it is advisable to make sure that the tutor is at the same time the moderator of this element of activities.
Course of the classes
The tutor divides the group into several smaller ones (ideally 4-5 people). Participants receive the activity "Mysterious animal" to be conducted in a group. Tutor sets up the duration of the exercise - 40 minutes should be enough; however, it's worth to monitor whether to shorten or prolong this time slot.
After discussion in the group and delivery of the exercise (ca. 30-40 minutes), one should prepare for the press conference.
If possible, it is worth to arrange space in such a way so as to have the audience on one side, and the presenting group on the other one.
Each group delivers its presentation for 3-5 minutes, talks about their “animal”, and then other groups have the right to ask one question.
The tutor shall ensure the right pace of this part of the activity.
Upon completion, the tutor summarises the activity, by asking about the work style of individual groups, task allocation, gaining knowledge about the organisation of work, and decision making within the group.

Mysterious animal
Imagine that a new, previousely in the middle of the South American jungle, unknown animal has been discovered. In the twenty-first century, it will outrun the dog and cat in terms of popularity as a pet. Due to some reasons, this animal contributes to the improvement of the household members well-being.
Why?
How does this animal look like?
Which of its features are the most endearing and make it so popoular?
Please draw this animal on a sheet of paper and provide your sketch with necessary explanations. Give it a name, describe its eating habits.
In a group, prepare material for the press conference that some of you (or the entire group) will present in order to inform the public about the new animal at large. You have to be aware that other groups can ask you one question each.
