This document discusses degassing refrigerators to remove refrigerants and oil. It describes how refrigerators must be properly degassed to remove at least 90% of refrigerants, like R12, R134a, and R600a, to comply with environmental regulations. There are two main methods for degassing - using drill-head technology, which can degass a refrigerator in about one minute, or piercing-pliers, which is a slower process taking up to 15 minutes. An effective degassing machine must control the draining devices, collect and separate refrigerants from oil and air, and safely store extracted refrigerants.
