Racial discrimination is defined as any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race that impairs people's rights and freedoms. The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination condemns racial discrimination as scientifically false, morally wrong, unjust, and dangerous. Some examples of racist practices are preventing someone's access to education based on their appearance or subjecting them to physical or verbal abuse. Racial minorities like Afro-descendant communities face greater difficulties accessing human rights due to the impacts of climate change, which deteriorates their access to health, food, water and housing. Environmental policies can also promote racial discrimination, environmental inequalities and poverty among certain social groups.
