1. Stage management
West end
Get as much experience as possible in helping at productions. Doesn’t have to
be in stage management as most stage managers start at the bottom and
build up to it as their reputation increases. Some see it as quite boring as you
are watching the same show night after night. Make contact with anyone you
know who is involved in productions and try to help them out on some show
nights.
Salisbury playhouse
Rachel Candler-Started at youth theatre and went to drama school to do a
degree in stage management. Wanted to be an actor but then discovered she
was no good so felt she could help with theatre by being a stage manager. It
was not easy when she started at Salisbury because they had two plays
simultaneously. Must be good at problem solving because if anything goes
wrong its your fault.
Forest forge
Must be prepared to do anything and help anyone in the theater out. This will
allow you to have a good relationship with everyone meaning that if you need
everyone’s help they will all come together and help. Although some things
will not seem like part of the stage management role you must still get
involved and help everyone out.
