The Lady Trojans soccer team won their final three games of the season to finish in third place and earn a home playoff game against fourth place Western Nebraska. In the playoff game, the Lady Trojans will look to captain Braelah McGinnis and top scorer Daisy Perez to lead them to victory over Western Nebraska and advance to the regional finals. Tony Fatur announced his candidacy for Las Animas County Sheriff, emphasizing his 22 years of law enforcement experience and commitment to community policing, accountability, and fiscal responsibility if elected.

Lady Trojans host
WNCC in playoff
The Lady Trojans won their final three
Region IX games of the season allowing
them to jump up into third place in the
standings. The third place finish means
they will get to host fourth place Western
Nebraska in a quarterfinal game this week-end.
The Trojans picked up wins last week-end
over Northwest College and Sheridan
to move their Region record to 7-4-1. The
win over the Northwest Trappers was high-lighted
by a four-goal performance from
Daisy Perez. Perez, an offensive midfielder,
has scored 14 goals this season to go along
with five assists. Hilda Romo also had a
goal and an assist in the 5-0 win.
Against Sheridan last Saturday Jordyn
Padilla had a long range goal to open the
Trojan scoring. Winning a rebounded clear-ance
near midfield and lobbing a shot from
40 yards out past the SC General’s keeper.
In the second half, Sierra Valerio scored
directly from a corner kick to the put the
Trojans up 2-0. The final goal of the evening
came in the 62nd minute when Braelah Mc-

split a pair of defenders and fired a shot
past the goalkeeper’s shoulder for the score.
This past Friday evening the Trojans
played Dodge City in a non-region game for
their final regular season game. The Tro-jans
scored early in the second half when
Porras found the net. Dodge answered
back a couple of minutes later and the game
stayed tied through regulation. In the first
OT Romo had a shot go off the woodwork
and bounce back out. In the second over-time,
Perez had a great look from a tremen-dous
Valerio cross that just skimmed over
the crossbar. Dodge City rambled back

down the field and picked up the game win-ner

This weekend’s playoff game will kick-off
at 2 p.m on the Central Park lower field.
Featuring the 5-7-2 WNCC Cougars and the
10-7-1 Lady Trojans. The teams split during
the regular season with Western Nebraska
winning 3-1 in Trinidad and the Trojans
winning 2-0 in Scottsbluff. The winner
will travel to Denver in early November
for the finals of the Region IX tournament
and a chance to advance to the National
Tournament.

My name is Tony Fatur and I am running for Las Animas County Sheri . I am 45 years old and a lifelong
resident of Las Animas County. I am married to my wife Kerrie and have 3 children. I have been a Police o cer for
22 years and am currently the Captain at the Trinidad Police Department. I started my career a er graduating from
the Trinidad State Junior College CLETA program working as a seasonal o cer with the Colorado State Parks here
in Trinidad. I was then hired at the Las Animas County Sheri ’s Department
before being hired with the City of Trinidad. I began my career with the City as
a Patrol O cer. I was then promoted to Detective, Detective Sergeant and later
to Captain. I have been a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) instructor,
certi ed investigator of Clandestine Labs (meth lab), Firearms Instructor, and a
life member of the NRA.
As Sheri I will provide leadership to ensure the citizens of Las Animas
County have a quality, well-trained, and respectful agency. I will ensure
that deputies are equipped with the proper equipment to safely carry out
their duties. Deputies will respond to all calls for service and meet with the
reporting parties face to face. I will see to it that deputies patrol their assigned
areas and make a point to speak with community members, giving the citizens
an opportunity to voice concerns about their respective neighborhoods.
I will provide citizens with the accountability that should be required by
all public service agencies. All complaints called into my department will be
given the proper diligent service that they require. I will see to it that your tax
money stays in this community and take every step possible to support our local
businesses. I will work with other county o cials with the budget to save this
county money whenever possible.
As Sheri I will be loyal to this community, focusing my time on issues that are happening in our community
and strive to make this county a better place to live. I will look at ways of working with the schools and nding ways
to implement a school resource o cer. I will work with other agencies combining resources for the betterment of the
community and to provide a more e cient rst responder resource to all county residents.
