We are keen to highlight how perfect a partnership it is and how it is a positive example of volunteers being used in libraries. The conference will follow closely on from our libraries matter campaign that has been talking about why libraries matter to communities and for health and social wellbeing so you might want to highlight some stories or facts around that.
Approximately 10,000 are newly diagnosed with cancer each year in Glasgow.
Dennistoun: Cancer deaths in the under 75’s are 63% more than the Scottish average.
Easterhouse: Cancer deaths in the under 75’s are 79% more than the Scottish average.
Glasgow levels of premature mortality are 30% higher than the rest of the UK and this can’t be explained by its
socio-economic profile.
Building on the successful pilot at Easterhouse
Our services are for anyone affected by cancer- those with a cancer diagnosis, family members, carers, friends and those who are worried about cancer and would just like to know more.
Network of venues in the heart of the community.
Anonymous, non clinical, trusted
Volunteering is at the heart of this programme. Without the volunteers we wouldn’t have any services.
Utilising local people to provide local services.
Matched local demographics. Higher % of protected characteristics than general population
We are demonstrating a new model in which the power of volunteers based within local community venues is working better in practice than current models of this being a clinicians responsibility.
