Skin-tight pants and leggings in denim, pleather, leather, and shiny spandex emphasized shapely legs at the recent New York
Fashion Week. They were seen mostly in black although a few women tried something different with all-over prints and
treatments such as tie-dye.
Fashionistas wanting to stand out from the crowd wore outfits in a full spectrum of brights and neons at the New York shows.
Fuchsia, lime green, orange and primary colors could be seen on pretty much any item of clothing, most often paired with black,
‘80s style. The really adventurous paired bright color with all over prints, brocade, plaid, satin or leather, for extra impact.
Fuller figured woman can breathe a sigh of relief…wide-leg pants are back! After seasons of skinny jeans, looser fitting pants,
often with a high waist, are now an additionally trendy option. The majority of ladies sporting these wide styles created a
sophisticated look with satin and polyester wool mixes in dark and neutral hues.
Ladies were in love with their animal print fur at this year’s New York Fashion Week. Not only were fur jackets and coats
common, gilets, scarves, and decorative fur detailing on collars and cuffs were all spotted. Fur vests were worn over blazers,
coats and leather jackets, making for some interesting alternative layering.
Women are borrowing from menswear and making it their own. Single and double-breasted suit jackets and blazers came in
heavy woven knit suiting fabrics, polyester mixes, velvet and sports influenced looks. Hues were dark, with the occasional hot
pink, and colorful layering. Teamed with both wide and narrow fit pants and stilettos, ladies kept the look feminine.
Scarves were long and layered, with interesting knots and multiple wrapping. Singular knotting was equally effective, displaying
some vibrant tie-dye as well as other print alternatives. Shorter scarves were an alternative – tucked in and maintaining a
sharper, cleaner look.
Women at New York Fashion Week wore a variety of hats, most markedly keeping up with their European cousins in massive
fur hats – Moscow style! Toques, trapper hats and bonnets were the most popular versions.
There is no doubt about it: fashion is experiencing a “belt moment.” At New York Fashion Week, women wore them every which
way. The exaggerated look is still effective, being used creatively on coats and outerwear. Belts were dark in color and
coordinated with footwear or other items.
Spacious bags are the popular choice for ladies on a hectic fashion schedule. Stylish leather, casual camouflage and some
unique briefcase type shapes in vintage styles, made for fashionable oversized carry-alls for winter.
Chanel bags were a plenty at Fashion Week. The small, quilted cross over bag was a particular favorite. Usually opting for
classic black, trendsetters rocked their designer staple with pride. Those who wanted to be different opted for cheetah print and
lipstick red.
A low crotch with the occasional high waist, makes for some very relaxed pant silhouettes – the more drape the better! Tapered
hems were recurrent in jersey, felted wool and polyester/viscose mixes, in black and grey. Fuchsia pink was an option for the
daring fashion follower.
Knee length boots were hot this season, with some exciting details coming through on the New York streets. Extra long fringing,
snakeskin prints, corset style lacing and stiletto boots with gold zips running up the back all added some sass. The use of suede
with patent rounded toe detailing was also noticeable.
It’s just not as much fun being stylish on your own! Attendees were joined at the hip, and in some cases, dressed similarly to
their friends. Indie and rock kid inspired looks were evident for some individuals, whilst others were coordinated through wearing
similar colors, shoes and cuts of clothing.
In slimming black, skirts and dresses were extra short and legs were out on show. Limbs were extenuated with a pair of killer
heels. This look works especially well when paired with a boxy cape coat, or a sporty black jacket with thick scarf and layers.
