While the current leaders in the field of quantum computing are undoubtable Google and IBM they tend to keep the details of how their quantum
computers to work a secret, only releasing the capabilities of their current machines occasionally. So, instead we must look to D–Wave, a Canadian
company that was the first to commercially sell quantum computers, specifically their most recent model, the 2000Q. This machine isn't quite the super
computer that was hypothetically brought up in the previous section, but instead, according to the company's website it is hyper focused on a single

The other quantum aspect to this computer is that the quantum states may overlap with neighboring magnets, which to put straightforwardly, means
that they can act collectively [11]. This is important because there could be a scenario where an individual magnet flipping would cause the energy
state to increase while several flipping at the same time would cause the energy state to decrease [11]. This switch of several simultaneously would
ordinarily be highly unlikely, but due to the quantum states overlapping there is a much higher probability of this occurring [11]. Though cooling the
chip down to near absolute zero the magnets will realign themselves many times, each time at a lower energy state, eventually reaching what is very
likely the correct solution [10] To account for the fact that it isn't guaranteed to be the best answer the computer will return several values scaled to
show which if the answers is optimal [10]. The black box housing the chip not only houses the cooling unit, but also helps to regulate many other
environmental factors. One of the more important ones is that it shields to 50,000 times less than Earth's magnetic field which is very important
considering that the qubits are themselves small magnets [10]. It also reduces pressure to ten billion times lower than standard atmospheric pressure
which makes sure that there aren't stray gas particles floating around in the magnetic fields [10]. And one

My Interest In Science And Technology
Since I was young, I have aspired to learn more about how technology works and the way we interact with it. My interest in science and technology
began even when I was as young as 3 or 4 years old, when my family first got a laptop. I can clearly remember my fascination with its incredible
capabilities, and this incredible piece of technology allowed for bonding opportunities in my family. For instance, my father would frequently teach me
about all of the amazing things a laptop is capable of doing, like calculating large numbers and accessing information from across the world at the click
of a button. On the other hand, this common interest in technology with my older brother David allowed us to create many memories of exploring the
internet and playing games together.
It is moments like these that have had a positive impact on my childhood and have also ignited a long–lasting interest of technology. These memories
have inspired me from a young age to pursue an education at the University of Auckland, where I can study a Bachelor of Science and major in
Computer Science to gain a deeper understanding of how people can interact with and benefit from the capabilities of technology. From this, I hope to
pursue a career in which I can create products that will help the lives of others in some way, even if it was just by allowing others to create these same
cherished memories through technology like I have.

save lives and is better for all regardless of a temporary monetary forfeiture. Ibsen would prefer civilization to be morally robust with antiquated

Sigmund Freud would be quick to agree that technology has not been a panacea for society. The underlying principles in Chapter III of Civilization
and Its Discontents were a hotly contested topic in the online discussion. It is debatable as to whether Freud wanted a return to the days sans
advanced technology but it is obvious that he is mostly displeased with how scientific improvements have influenced our lives. The author asserts that
technology can never be a nostrum for humanity because it is not better than "the superior power of nature, [nor improves] the feebleness of our own
bodies [... or] mutual relationships of human beings" (37). Freud finds it important for us to realize where our limits are defined so we can use this

My Vision for the Future of Science and Technology
If our ancestors from the days of yore could see some of today's innovations, they would proclaim them to be magic. The Congress of Future Science
and Technology Leaders exposed me to such innovations and, in the process, to much of the STEM field. I now have a deeper understanding of a
