But do all people share this opinion on success? To some succeeding, or winning, is the most
important factor in their life. To a college basketball coach, like Mike Krzyzewski, "Winning is not
a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once and a while; you don't do things right
once and a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit, and unfortunately so is losing."

The reasons why people succeed in their careers are probably as numerous as the number of

psychologist, I'd like to offer my own personal observation.
Of the people I've known over the years who fall into this category two basic types exist. One is the

Success is Happiness What is success, and what does it mean to be successful? Is it always about
having a bunch of money, or do happiness and respect play a part? Success may be defined as the
accomplishment of a goal, financial profitability, or the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect,
or fame. What society fails to consider is the necessity of happiness and integrity alongside these

Work to live not live to work is a saying my stepfather once told me. This wisdom made me
indecisive about my major (as if I was ready to choose my career in the first place). It made me
think far into my future. I don't need a brand new luxurious car every year, nor do I need an
insanely huge mansion with an indoor olympic swimming pool, a ten car garage, a shooting
range, and race track out back. I don't need to build my kid a mansion down the road, pay for their
entire college tuition, and let them live off my wealth. I may have exaggerated the lifestyle, but my
point still stands: being the mayor of Dreamtown sounds great until you realize you've been trapped
in the endless cycle of working to afford these ridiculous luxuries. High–paying jobs usually are

Looking back at the past eleven weeks I have grown and learned so much here at Ashford
University. I never thought that I would actually accomplish my educational dreams and be
successful in my life, but I definitely have proved, myself wrong. I love knowing that I am doing
great and I really try to do my best in completing my homework on time, with the occasions of a few
speed bumps along the way.
I decided to return to school to further my education for many important reasons. I have struggled
tremendously in the past with my five children and I wanted to change that life style for good. I am

I decided to just go for it and I am so glad I did because I know now that I have overcome that fear
and I feel as if I can accomplish anything and everything. I can also say that I have matured in
many ways as a mother, first time college student, and being a single mother of five. My kids had
to adjust to the new routine as well. They did not understand at first but eventually they came
around and little by little they gave me the time I needed to study and do homework. I still have to
overcome a few obstacles in order to complete my degree program, just like I had to overcome all
the changes that come with me returning to school.

Most of my days are long and tiring. By managing my time wisely, I normally get everything I

The only guidelines this "10,000 hour rule" falls under in terms of success is the dedication put
forth. Gladwell exclaims that "Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do
that makes you good." If you are willing and able to practice something for 10,000 hours you
have shown an immense amount of dedication already therefore in a way becoming in Gladwell's
eyes successful. I believe that success is different for everyone. To say that doing 10,000 hours of
something will make you successful is irrational much like love you can't measure success under
such terms. To some doing something for 5 hours is enough to personally fulfill their their goal and

disappointment and failure to tell someone they can only be truly successful at something is if they

Have you ever been extremely discouraged or upset due to a failure and felt like giving up? Well
guess what it's not the end of time and there will be another day and night. Bouncing back from a
failure is all dependent on how the individual like me looks at the situation and how to deal with
