1.
2. In the introduction we see Sans-Serif font of Love Island which is
written in white font, next to a clear, heart shaped ornament
with golden sparkly flakes floating down to the bottom of the
ornament. The ornament is sat on a golden stand with a bright
blue ocean behind this implies that the program is based in a hot
foreign country which is Spain.
3. Love Island is a British dating
game show where a group of non
celebrities men and women
participate in a series of tasks with a
partner that they can change until they
find their "perfect" match, the overall
winning couple receives a combined
£50,000. The first series started on 7th
June 2015, presented by Caroline
Flack. Love Island became ITV2's most
watched show in the network's history
in 2018. Also as of 2020 Love Island
was the most watched TV show among
its target audience of 16–34-year-olds.
There is 7 series all together including
292 episodes as well as having a side
show, Love Island After Sun.
4. There is a long shot of Caroline which shows of the
villa and show the location of the programme
(abroad) and no longer in England, once we get a
view of the villa it then switches into a mid-shot of
Caroline, she begins to introduce the contestants by
phoning them. There is fast paced cuts from Caroline
in Spain to the contestants in England, this
emphasises that the contestants must travel to Spain
to be in the show but also shows that the contestant
and the host have very different roles in the show.
After the introduction of the contestants, we see
midshots and closeups of the contestants to show
their bodies and faces as it is a show based around
attraction to each of the contestants, this allows the
audience to make judgements of the contestants
which is based of stereotypical views. At the end of
the sequence, we see another long shot of the villa
to how luxurious the villa is and to attract the
audience to watch the programme.
5. Within the first minute Love Island uses
editing such as cross cutting scenes to
introduce the contestants of the show. It
goes from Caroline to then playing the next
clip of the contestants speaking to Caroline
via the phone and receiving text messages
from her, this allows tension to build and
gives an exciting brief introduction of the
contestants. Then it goes back to Caroline
who introduces the show and then cross
cuts again showing the luxury villa where
the contestants will be living for the next six
weeks if they manage to stay voted in.
Throughout the whole opening sequence,
the main editing technique used was cross
cutting to show different angles of the villa,
surroundings, contestants and host of the
show to show the audience a sneak peak of
what to expect on the show .
6. There is non diegetic sound , the song is a
very upbeat song which we hear when
being shown the villa this shows that the
show is going to be upbeat and have a
positive atmosphere. Also, there is non-
diegetic voice over of Ian's Sterling who is
talking and describing the surroundings of
the villa while making jokes to attract the
audience as its showing humour within
the first few minutes of the show. The
Love Island theme tune was produced by
Andrei Basira and Toby Jarvis the music is
inspired by the dance culture of Ibiza and
featured throughout the show this is to
give the show a lively atmosphere attract
their ideal audience.
7. The location of Caroline and the contestants
show very different ideologies. Caroline is
located in Spain at the Love Island villa she is
dressed in a short summer outfit ; therefore,
this shows the setting of the program.
However, the contestants are still based in the
Uk and are dressed very differently from
Caroline. Caroline then uses a mobile phone
to contact the contestants this therefore
implies the show is aimed to the younger
generation. When we see the
contestants, they are wearing outfits that
match their jobs and personalities e.g tattoo
artist makeup fitness therefore this gives the
audience a glimpse of the contestants and
their personalities. Throughout the opening
sequence we see high key lighting which
empahsises the positive atmosphere and the
holiday feeling.
