It can be tempting to choose a
fixture based solely on aesthetics.
However, that can leave you dis-
appointed because it doesn’t take
into account how you’ll actually
be using the faucet. Make sure
your faucet flows visually and
functionally with your kitchen
and lifestyle by learning about
the most common faucet styles.
SINGLE-HANDLE FAUCET
The good: This option offers a basic and
cost-effective solution that’s simple to
clean and maintain. The single-hole instal-
lation makes the process straightforward.
The bad: An individual handle prevents
the comprehensive temperature control
you can achieve with a dual-handle unit.
DUAL-HANDLE FAUCET
The good: Provides operator maximum
control of the temperature and water flow.
The bad: Installation is more labor inten-
sive than a single-handle faucet since
it requires more holes in the countertop.
FAUCET WITH SIDE SPRAY
The good: Affordable and can be
integrated with most faucet styles.
The bad: Requires another hole in your
countertop. Another common gripe:
Water pressure can be lacking.
PULL-DOWN FAUCET
The good: Because the sprayer pulls
straight down rather than having to
twist in order to engage them, they
can be an ideal choice for someone
who suffers from arthritis.
The bad: More expensive.
PULLOUT FAUCET
The good: Similar to pull-down, except
a pullout’s hose extends horizontally. Pull-
outs generally come with a longer hose,
making it easier to fill pots near the sink.
The bad: The hose tends to face you,
so make sure you don’t spray yourself!
