I worked directly with Brian Wilson during our employ at Pacific Bell and later during our employ at Century
Communications. As Director of Engineering I recruited Brian to Century to fill the role of Network Engineer.
Brian was recruited for his leadership, depth of technical talent, communications skill, and ability to investigate and
solve technical problems.
While at Century, Brian creatively solved select complex network problems resulting in a direct impact on the
quality of services as delivered by the Century systems under our charge in the Southwest Division. The solutions
that Brian delivered were targeted, expert, and well documented. His documentation recorded the expectations that
defined a solution while also building an understanding of the cause and effect of the problem at hand.
I cannot overstate the respect that his team members or I had for Brian. Brian was part of a cohesive team that
recognized one another’s talents and assembled solutions by selectively utilizing the talents of the group to effect a
best solution.
Brian was also charged with technical training while at Century. Brian recognized the importance and effect of
building a knowledge base for the 400 plus technical personnel. He worked tirelessly to develop training programs,
and to develop and mentor the training manager that was under his charge. With Brian’s guidance, the training
program dramatically increased in effectiveness. Brian and the training manager identified and worked on topics that
had the greatest impact on the systems’ operations and subsequent service to Century’s customer base.
Brian’s personal and professional ethics were a great example to everyone. His self-improvement efforts were
obvious with his study of the technology and tools of the trade.
